You can reset a forgotten Samsung account password without knowing the old one, but Samsung still requires you to verify that the account is yours. Start with Forgot password? on the sign-in screen and use a recovery method offered for your account, such as its registered email address or phone number. If you cannot access any offered method, contact Samsung Support rather than trying to bypass verification.
Reset your Samsung account password
- Open Samsung account sign-in. On a Galaxy device, open the Samsung account section in Settings. You can also start from Samsung’s account sign-in page. Select Forgot password?. Samsung’s recovery instructions are available for Saudi Arabia and India; labels and screens can vary by region.
- Enter your account ID. This is generally the email address associated with the account. If you have forgotten the ID too, look for the ID-recovery option and follow the prompts to identify it using a registered recovery phone number or email, if available.
- Choose an offered ownership check. Depending on your account and region, Samsung may offer verification through the primary email, a registered recovery email, a recovery phone, or a security question. Recovery details and security questions must have been set up before you lost access. Samsung Support states: “You must have previously set up recovery options (email, phone number, or security question) to use them.”
- Verify and set a new password. Follow the email instructions or enter the SMS code as requested. A phone-based recovery flow may ask for your date of birth before sending a code. Once Samsung verifies you, create a new password.
- Review device sessions if prompted. Samsung’s Canadian guidance documents a choice to stay signed in on all devices or sign out of all devices after a reset. If you suspect someone else has access, choose the sign-out option when it appears. The prompt may differ by account or region.
Samsung’s guidance is country-specific: its Saudi Arabia page was last updated April 22, 2026, its India page November 19, 2025, and its UK recovery page June 20, 2026. The available verification methods therefore may not match across regions or accounts.

If you have forgotten the account ID
Use the account ID-recovery route from Samsung’s sign-in or recovery screen before resetting the password. Samsung may let you identify the account using a recovery email or phone number already registered to it. These options are not guaranteed to appear for every account. Follow Samsung’s ID and password recovery guide or the India recovery instructions.
If you cannot use the recovery options
If the flow offers only an inbox or phone number you can no longer access, or you cannot complete a required verification step, contact Samsung Customer Support. Samsung UK specifically directs users who have lost access to both the email address and phone number used to create the account to Support. Support may need to verify ownership; the published guidance does not promise an instant recovery.

Do not use third-party “unlock” services that claim to bypass Samsung’s checks. A password reset is not a way to evade account ownership verification.
Password recovery and two-step verification
A new password does not necessarily remove two-step verification. Samsung describes two-step verification as requiring the account password plus an additional security code, commonly sent by text. You may still need to complete that check when signing in after the reset. Samsung also describes trusted devices that may sign in without repeating two-step verification. If you need to change the phone number used for two-step verification, timing can depend on region. Samsung UK says a phone-number change takes two weeks as a security precaution; that guidance is UK-specific and should not be treated as a worldwide timeline.
