Apple’s U.S. shop lists the iPhone Duo at $1,999 for 256GB, while current U.S. deal examples put the 11-inch 128GB M4 iPad Air at $649 and the 13-inch version at $849. The 21% figure comes from an Australian Amazon bundle that includes an Apple Pencil Pro, priced at A$1,155 against an A$1,468 recommended retail price.
How much cheaper is the M4 iPad Air?
Using the listed U.S. prices, the 11-inch 128GB Wi‑Fi iPad Air deal is $1,350 below the 256GB iPhone Duo, while the 13-inch 128GB model is $1,150 cheaper. Those are not like-for-like devices: the iPhone Duo is a foldable phone with cellular connectivity, whereas the iPad Air is a conventional tablet. The comparison is useful for buyers deciding whether a large-screen Apple device is worth paying phone-level money for.

What the 21% iPad Air deal actually includes
The 21% promotion is tied to an Amazon Australia listing for the 11-inch 128GB Wi‑Fi M4 iPad Air bundled with an Apple Pencil Pro. The bundle was listed at A$1,155 against an A$1,468 RRP, with the retailer marking it 21% off. That percentage applies to that Australian listing and its stated reference price; it should not be treated as a current discount in the United States, United Kingdom or another country.

iPhone Duo and M4 iPad Air: different jobs
| Factor | iPhone Duo | M4 iPad Air |
|---|---|---|
| Form factor | Foldable phone | Traditional tablet |
| Displays | 7.6-inch inner display and 5.4-inch outer display | 11-inch or 13-inch tablet display |
| Processor | A20 Pro | M4 |
| Primary strength | Phone connectivity plus a foldable large screen | Browsing, documents, media, drawing and tablet productivity |
| Accessory ecosystem | Phone accessories and possible carrier plans | Apple Pencil Pro, Apple Pencil (USB-C), cases and optional keyboard accessories |
The iPhone Duo is the more practical single-device replacement for a phone and a compact tablet. Its outer display is intended for phone-style use, and its inner 7.6-inch panel opens for a larger view without carrying a second device. The iPad Air cannot replace a phone: it is a tablet, and the configurations cited here are Wi‑Fi models. Buyers who need mobile data away from Wi‑Fi must check whether a cellular iPad configuration is available and price it separately.
The iPad Air offers substantially more physical workspace. An 11-inch model is easier to hold and pack, while the 13-inch model gives documents, split-screen apps, timelines and canvases more room. The larger version is less convenient for one-handed use and adds to the carrying footprint.

M4 performance and software headroom
Apple says the M4 iPad Air is up to 30% faster than the iPad Air with M3 and up to 2.3 times faster than the iPad Air with M1. “Up to” figures are Apple’s comparative claims, not a guarantee that every app will show those gains. They indicate that the M4 model has considerable performance headroom for multitasking, creative apps and long-term software support, but they do not make the tablet a phone.
Does the iPad Air M4 come with Apple Pencil Pro?
Apple Pencil Pro works with the M4 iPad Air, and Apple also lists Apple Pencil (USB-C) as compatible. Compatibility does not mean either stylus is included with a standard tablet purchase. The Australian 21% example is specifically a Pencil Pro bundle; a tablet-only sale will have a different total cost.

For handwriting, illustration and markup, include the Pencil Pro price in your budget unless the retailer clearly states that it is bundled. A protective case is another likely cost. Case listings must match the exact 11-inch or 13-inch generation; model-specific magnetic and hybrid cases are not automatically interchangeable.
Which size should you buy?
Choose the 11-inch iPad Air when
- You want the lowest purchase price and the easiest tablet to carry.
- You read, browse, stream and take occasional notes.
- You plan to use it alongside a phone or laptop rather than as a primary work screen.
Choose the 13-inch iPad Air when
- You regularly edit documents, use split-screen apps or draw on a large canvas.
- You want a more laptop-like workspace without buying a larger computer.
- You accept the higher $849 U.S. deal example and larger size.
When the iPhone Duo still makes more sense
Buy the foldable phone instead if one device must handle calls, messaging, mobile data and a larger display throughout the day. The Duo’s $1,999 entry price also includes phone hardware that the Wi‑Fi iPad Air does not provide. Carrier financing, cellular service, storage upgrades and protective accessories can change the real ownership cost, so compare the complete setup rather than the headline device prices.

How to verify the deal before paying
- Match the screen size, storage, Wi‑Fi or cellular status and M4 generation in the product title.
- Read the “what’s included” section for Apple Pencil Pro; product photos alone are not proof of a bundle.
- Use your local currency and add tax, delivery and any import charges.
- Check the seller, return policy, warranty region and estimated delivery date.
- Recalculate the saving against the current local price, because a displayed RRP may be a temporary or region-specific reference.
