Forensic Evidence Takes Centre Stage in Beau Lamarre-Condon Murder Trial

Forensic evidence is taking centre stage in the ongoing New South Wales Supreme Court trial of former police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon, who has pleaded not guilty to murdering Jesse Baird and Luke Davies. Crime-scene testimony has covered blood staining, DNA, bullet damage and evidence from vehicles; what those findings mean for intent and the sequence of events remains contested. The jury has not returned a verdict in the reports available as of October 3, 2026.

What forensic evidence has the jury heard?

Senior Sergeant Bronwyn Lansley, the lead crime-scene officer, testified about examinations at the Paddington terrace where the alleged shootings occurred in February 2024, a skip bin at a Cronulla bowling club and three vehicles used by Lamarre-Condon. Hundreds of scene photographs were shown in court. Reports describe blood-stained clothing and possessions, bullet damage and biological material. ABC reported that DNA testing matched blood to Baird and Davies; these are accounts of testimony, not the complete laboratory record.

Bedroom door and projectile

Defence counsel questioned the absence of a projectile associated with a defect in a bedroom door. Lansley agreed that no projectile or fired bullet had been found inside the bedroom and that there was no mark there indicating a bullet impact. She testified, “Testing indicates a bullet has exited through that side of the door.” She also agreed that DNA on the pistol trigger might have belonged to Davies. Those details describe evidence reported from the hearing; they do not, on their own, settle how the shooting occurred.

Findings beneath the house

Lansley told the jury that a tarpaulin bearing a stain from pooled blood was found beneath the bedroom, along with extensive staining on the underside of the flooring and supporting joists. Her testimony was reported as: “Blood flowed down a joist and saturated into the timber.” A bullet allegedly linked to Baird’s death was recovered beneath the kitchen, where officers also noted impact damage and a small blood stain. They used luminol, a chemical described in court reporting as designed to identify blood staining.

DNA reported in two vehicles

AAP reported DNA matching both victims in a Mazda SUV hired by Lamarre-Condon’s mother before the deaths and a Toyota Hiace Lamarre-Condon hired afterward. That is a reported biological finding. The meaning of the vehicle choices is disputed: the prosecutor argued the larger van showed a need for more room after Davies’s alleged unplanned killing, while the defence characterized Lamarre-Condon’s later conduct as panic. Neither interpretation is itself a forensic result.

What do the Crown and defence say happened?

The competing accounts differ over intent and the sequence of events. The Crown alleges Lamarre-Condon entered the house armed and disguised, deliberately killed Baird, then shot Davies through the bedroom door when Davies tried to call emergency services. The Crown also relies on conduct involving vehicles and the disposal of belongings as part of its argument about intent.

The defence says the deaths were not intentional and that Lamarre-Condon acted in self-defence. It suggests Davies was accidentally shot during a struggle over the service pistol outside a bedroom, and describes the accused’s conduct afterward as panic rather than evidence of planned murder. These are disputed submissions, not findings by the jury.

What does the Triple Zero call establish?

The jury heard a Triple Zero call from Davies’s phone. ABC reported that police tried twice to call back and both calls went to voicemail. AAP reported the operator’s words as: “Caller disconnected, no request, I heard a male say, ‘Eff off’, call dropped out.” The reported excerpt does not establish who spoke the words.

Is the trial still underway?

Yes. AAP and ABC reported on October 2, 2026, that the trial was continuing in the Supreme Court of New South Wales. AAP said a third week of hearings was due to begin the following Tuesday; the reports cited here do not establish the subsequent schedule. Lamarre-Condon has pleaded not guilty, and no verdict is reported as of October 3, 2026.

The reporting cited here recounts courtroom evidence and submissions rather than a full transcript, complete expert record or final judgment. The physical findings should therefore be distinguished from the parties’ arguments about what they prove.
