The event had been scheduled for October 27–30, 2026. AnitaB.org says individual registrations and sponsorship commitments were significantly below expectations, leaving it without enough funds to cover production costs.
What was cancelled
The 2026 Grace Hopper Celebration was scheduled to take place in Anaheim from October 27 through October 30. AnitaB.org’s official event information now carries a cancellation notice, so earlier promotional pages or calendar listings should not be treated as evidence that the US event is still going ahead.

The organization did not publish a registration count, sponsorship total, production-cost figure or dollar amount for the shortfall. “Significantly below our expectations” therefore cannot be converted into a percentage or estimated loss.
Why AnitaB.org says it cancelled the event
AnitaB.org says it did not have the funds required to cover production costs. It attributes that situation to individual registrations and sponsorship commitments arriving substantially below expectations. The announcement also says the event’s circumstances adversely affected AnitaB.org’s finances.
#1 Best Overall
That is both an operational explanation and a warning about the economics of a large professional conference: an event can depend on a combination of ticket revenue and corporate backing, and a gap in either can threaten its ability to operate. The announcement does not establish why registrations or sponsorships fell short, whether the decline reflects the wider AI labor market, or how other conferences are performing.
What women in AI lose immediately
For attendees and prospective attendees, the most concrete consequence is the loss of a planned place to meet peers, find mentors, attend professional-development sessions and connect with employers. Those opportunities may be especially valuable to people who had already arranged time off, travel and networking meetings around the Anaheim dates.
The cancellation does not, by itself, prove a measurable change in women’s hiring, representation or career outcomes in AI. It does mean that one high-profile channel for community-building and access to technology employers will not be available in its planned form this year.
What registered attendees and travelers should do
- Check direct messages from AnitaB.org. The organization says information about registration, sponsorship, exhibitor commitments and other financial matters will be sent directly to affected parties.
- Watch for the registration-fee update. AnitaB.org says registrants will be contacted about registration fees by October 26. The cancellation notice does not promise that registration fees will be refunded, so wait for the organization’s specific instructions rather than assuming an outcome.
- Contact transport providers promptly. Ask airlines, rail operators, bus companies or other travel providers about cancellation, credit and date-change rules for reservations made for Anaheim.
- Handle independently booked hotels yourself. Contact the hotel or booking service directly. Reservations made outside an official event room block may have separate deadlines, deposits and cancellation terms.
- Keep documentation. Save confirmation numbers, cancellation notices, receipts and messages. They may be needed for a refund request, travel credit, insurance claim or reimbursement process.
- Send unresolved cancellation questions to AnitaB.org. The contact address listed in the announcement is [email protected].
Is the event permanently over?
No permanent end has been announced. AnitaB.org says it is evaluating strategic alternatives and possible future programming, but it does not name a replacement event or provide a new US Celebration date. The current cancellation should therefore be treated as a decision about the 2026 Anaheim gathering, not proof that Grace Hopper programming will never return.
What about Grace Hopper Celebration India?
Grace Hopper Celebration India is a separate event. Its existence is not an announcement that it will replace the cancelled US Celebration, nor does it confirm an equivalent Anaheim program. Anyone considering it should assess its own published dates, location, eligibility, agenda, fees and travel requirements.
How to choose another opportunity
No organizer has identified a replacement for the 2026 US Celebration in the available announcement. If you need to replace a lost conference, compare each option on its own evidence rather than assuming it offers the same benefits.
- Confirmation: Is the event currently scheduled, with an organizer-published date and location?
- Audience and subject: Does it serve women in AI, a broader technology audience, or a different specialty?
- Career access: Are recruiting sessions, employer meetings, mentorship or portfolio reviews actually listed?
- Format and geography: Will an in-person, virtual or hybrid format work for your needs and travel limits?
- Total cost: Include registration, transport, lodging, meals, visa requirements where relevant and time away from work.
- Community continuity: Look for year-round groups, mentoring structures or follow-up access instead of judging an event only by its headline.
Employers and professional groups that had planned booths, sponsorships or sessions should also wait for direct financial and contractual guidance from AnitaB.org before treating commitments as cancelled, transferable or refundable.
What the cancellation says—and does not say—about the field
The shortfall is a significant setback for AnitaB.org and for people who had planned to use the Celebration as a professional hub. It also shows the financial vulnerability of a large gathering that relies on both attendee demand and sponsors. However, one cancellation cannot establish a trend in AI employment, investment or participation by women. Those broader conclusions would require additional evidence that the announcement does not provide.
Brenda Darden Wilkerson, President and CEO of AnitaB.org, described the stakes this way: “It is about a community that has spent decades opening doors, expanding opportunity, and making sure women technologists have a voice in shaping the future of technology.” For now, that community will need to maintain those connections through independently confirmed events, local groups, online networks and direct professional relationships while AnitaB.org decides what programming comes next.
