Three football party games can turn different parts of match night into play: a host-led quiz before or around kickoff, bingo during the broadcast, and private predictions to score after the final whistle. Oleksandr Alyoshin describes building all three as standalone HTML files that open directly in a browser, without a build step or server. The designs trade backend features for simplicity—and work best when you understand how hosting, privacy, and saved game state are handled.
Which game fits your match night?
The three formats serve different moments and ask players to interact in different ways. In Alyoshin’s account, the quiz is run by a host, bingo gives each player an individual event card, and predictions turn into a group score after the match.

How the host-led Presing quiz is structured
Presing adapts a Ukrainian football quiz show into a format operated from one host’s screen. The host reads questions and decides when an answer earns points. Its four rounds give the session a mix of football knowledge, strategy, and clues:

To reduce the number of spelling disputes the host must settle, the author says answer matching normalizes case, apostrophes, hyphens, some Ukrainian letters, and whitespace; entries can also have aliases. Longer inputs are compared using a Levenshtein-distance threshold. Alyoshin reports testing 18 input variants, but the account does not provide an independent evaluation of that test or its results.
This is an unofficial fan project and is not affiliated with Setanta Sports or the show. Because the answers are present in the page source, this host-operated design does not keep them secret from anyone who can inspect the file. The author considers that acceptable when players do not receive the host link; a game that must protect secret answers needs a server-side approach instead.

How match bingo works on a phone
The bingo card is a 5×5 grid of events that might occur during a football broadcast, such as a penalty, a red card, or a commentator reference. The author describes a pool of 44 events to produce different combinations. Each player opens the same link on a phone and starts a new card.

Mobile layout problems the author encountered
Alyoshin reports two causes of bingo cards overflowing on iPhone: iOS text autosizing enlarging text beyond the intended size, and CSS grid items retaining an automatic minimum width. The fixes he describes are:
- Set

minmax(0, 1fr)for grid tracks, setmin-width: 0on grid items, and allow long content to wrap.
These are the author’s reported implementation lessons, rather than independently tested fixes for every browser or device. He also reports that a GitHub Pages demo link in a repository’s About area was not visible in GitHub’s mobile layout, and recommends placing the demo link in the README.

How the pass-the-phone prediction game is scored
Before the match, players take turns entering a scoreline, first goalscorer, expected yellow-card count, and whether they think there will be a penalty or red card. A pass-the-phone screen separates turns so the next person cannot see earlier predictions. After the match, a host enters the outcome and the game ranks participants.

First-goalscorer matching is not entirely automatic: fuzzy matching proposes verdicts, but the host can change them. That makes the person entering the result responsible for resolving ambiguous names or matches.

What the one-file constraint changes
Alyoshin’s constraint was that each game had to be “a single HTML file you can open by double-clicking it.” In practice, that means the projects do not require an npm install, bundler, or server to open in a browser. The author also describes URL state as a useful fit for small games and says the no-build constraint helped keep each project finishable. Those are reflections on these projects, not proof that a single-file approach is best for every game.
The trade-off is clearest where the games need shared or hidden information. A URL can carry a player’s card or predictions, but it does not itself provide a central live session for synchronizing multiple players. And if answers must remain secret from anyone with access to a game file, client-side storage is not enough. The quiz’s host-led format makes exposed answers an acceptable compromise in the author’s described use case; competitive or private play would call for a different architecture.
