Repair costs are equally model- and country-specific: warranty coverage, damage type, and service channel determine what you may pay. Compare those details for the exact model and market before buying.
What to compare before buying a foldable
| Factor | What to check | What the available evidence shows |
|---|---|---|
| Hinge durability | How the manufacturer describes the hinge, whether it publishes a test method, and whether independent tests use comparable conditions. | Samsung describes a restructured hinge for the Galaxy Z Fold7; Google describes a gearless hinge for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The linked sources do not establish a standardized cross-brand hinge-life result. |
| Crease visibility | How the center line looks in reflections and on different content, brightness levels, and viewing angles. Inspect in person if possible. | Reviewers observed differences between specific models, but these are not laboratory measurements or universal results. |
| Repair and coverage | Get a local quote for inner-display and hinge work; check warranty exclusions, accidental-damage protection costs and deductibles, service location, and turnaround. | Motorola’s US support page gives warranty and repair-time context for its Razr Fold 2026, not comparable uncovered-repair prices across brands. |
| Care and environment | Read the maker’s guidance on particles, water exposure, and checking the hinge and display before folding. | Google cautions that water and dust resistance can diminish over time and advises keeping fine particles away from the display and hinge when closing the phone. |
How durable are foldable hinges?
Hinge claims are specific to a model, and design descriptions are evidence of engineering intent—not a promise about an individual phone’s lifespan. Samsung’s product material describes a restructured hinge and foldable display for the Galaxy Z Fold7. Google’s design article describes a gearless hinge intended to improve reliability and durability on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

Those descriptions do not let buyers rank the phones by expected years of use or hinge failure rates. The cited sources do not establish an independently measured, comparable cross-brand lifespan. A fold-count number is not useful for comparison unless its exact model, test method, and conditions are known.

A foldable’s crease remains a visible and tactile characteristic of its inner screen. Tom’s Guide found the Pixel 10 Pro Fold crease more noticeable than the Galaxy Z Fold7’s in a hands-on comparison. In a separate review, TechRadar said the Z Fold7 crease was less pronounced than its predecessor’s but still present. These are reviewers’ observations, not standardized measurements, and may not match what you notice in your own lighting or while viewing different content.

What will hinge or inner-screen repair cost?
There is no responsible single repair-cost figure for “a foldable.” The price depends on the model, country, whether the damage is accidental or a covered defect, whether the hinge, inner display, or both need work, and the repair channel. The available sources do not provide a current side-by-side out-of-warranty price for the Galaxy Z Fold7, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and Razr Fold 2026.

For the Razr Fold 2026, Motorola’s US support page describes a one-year standard warranty context and estimates a 3–5-business-day repair time. It says most repairs within that warranty period cost nothing. That is not an out-of-warranty quote, and the US terms should not be applied to other countries.
Before buying, ask the manufacturer or authorized service provider in your country for a current written estimate for the specific repair you want to understand. Confirm whether the quote covers the inner display, hinge, or both; what it assumes about the cause of damage; and whether labor, shipping, and any deductible are included. Read the model’s warranty and any optional protection plan terms alongside the quote.

How to care for a foldable screen and hinge
Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold safety guidance warns that water and dust resistance can diminish over time. It also advises keeping fine particles away from the foldable display and hinge when closing the phone. Follow the care instructions for the exact device you buy; resistance ratings are not a reason to expose a foldable to dust or water unnecessarily.
