Focal calls it an “Immersive All-in-One System”—a single 15-driver unit designed for music, films and games. That distinction matters: it combines TV connectivity and spatial audio with a music-system feature set, but it does not include separate rear speakers or a subwoofer.
Is the Focal Mu-so Hekla a soundbar?
In shape and intended TV use, the comparison is understandable. Hekla is 100 cm wide and 11.8 cm high, connects to a TV over HDMI eARC/CEC, and supports Dolby Atmos. Yet its design is a one-cabinet immersive audio system rather than a conventional soundbar package built around a bar plus separate speakers. Focal’s official category is “Immersive All-in-One System.”

The category does not change how it connects to a television: eARC is the relevant HDMI link, while optical TOSLINK is another digital input. The difference is more about what the product is built to do and how it is configured. Hekla is also a networked music system, and Focal specifies four listening modes: Dolby Movie, Dolby Music, Sphere Music and Sphere Movie.
What is inside the single cabinet?
Focal specifies 15 drivers: three 6-inch woofers, two 2.75-inch midrange drivers, two 1-inch tweeters, plus side- and top-firing full-range drivers. The manufacturer rates the total amplification at 660 W (3 × 60 W + 12 × 40 W). Those are Focal’s specifications, not independent measurements.

Focal also lists a maximum sound-pressure level of 108 dB at 1 m, a frequency response of 30 Hz–20 kHz (±3 dB), and a low-frequency point of 27 Hz at -6 dB. The company says its ADAPT room-tuning feature uses distances entered in the Focal & Naim app between the system, walls, ceiling and listening area. That describes the setup approach; it is not a guarantee of identical results in every room.
TechRadar’s October 1, 2026 review describes a wide, tall and cohesive Atmos presentation, with effects moving confidently and generally natural timbre; the reviewer also noted some low-end bloom. These are that reviewer’s listening impressions, not lab findings or a hands-on assessment for this article.

Which connections and music sources does it support?
The physical connections and wireless options give Hekla roles beyond TV sound. Focal lists HDMI eARC/CEC, optical TOSLINK and an RCA subwoofer output, alongside Wi-Fi 6, Ethernet and Bluetooth 5.1 (SBC and AAC). The included accessories listed by Focal are a fabric grille and power cables.

- High Output, Low Distortion – 35W LF and 25W HF Class D amps deliver up to 101dB SPL peak at 1m.
- Studio-Ready Build – MDF cabinet with black vinyl finish, laminar port, and inserts for wall mounting.
- Amazon Music HD via Chromecast
- Apple Music using AirPlay 2
- Tidal Connect or native Tidal
Focal’s specifications list Dolby formats including Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and Dolby MAT over HDMI, with format-specific channel and sample-rate limits. They do not list DTS:X support. TechRadar’s specification summary likewise says there is no DTS:X, no included subwoofer and no rear speakers, and reports support up to 7.1.4 channels. That channel figure is a format/capability description, not a count of physical speaker cabinets.
Will it fit your room and furniture?
Focal gives the chassis dimensions as 100 cm wide, 29.5 cm deep and 11.8 cm high, with a weight of 15.5 kg. Measure the usable surface, not just its width: the depth and rear cable clearance matter, and the TV stand must safely support the weight. Its anodised, brushed/sandblasted aluminium finish and tactile dial are documented design features; whether the appearance suits a room is a matter of taste.
Rank #4
- Exclusive cone technology offering acoustic transparency and excellent dynamics.
- Precision and neutrality.
- Total control over the audio spectrum.
- Excellent isolation and optimal comfort.
- Compact, rigid carrying case.
Focal describes Hekla as suitable for rooms up to 40 m². Treat that as a manufacturer claim rather than a universal room-size guarantee; placement, furnishings, ceiling geometry and listening position can affect immersive playback.

Focal’s November 2025 press release listed recommended retail prices including VAT of €3,300, US$3,600 and £3,000. Best Value
- High-end closed-back design for home use and on-the-go
- Exclusive full-range speaker-driver with an 'M'-shape aluminium/magnesium dome (patent pending)
- Incredible tonal balance, which is able to reproduce the subtlest sound details at both very high and very low frequencies
- Excellent performance when connected to a portable audiophile player.
- Very good ambient noise soundproofing - Comfortable and ergonomic
The appeal is a single cabinet that handles music and TV audio without a multi-speaker installation. The trade-off is that buyers seeking discrete rear speakers, a separate subwoofer or DTS:X should factor those requirements into their decision; Hekla’s one-box format is not the same thing as a complete set of separate home-cinema speakers.
Quick Recap
Who should consider the Mu-so Hekla?
- It may suit you if you want one substantial system for both music and TV, have a compatible Atmos source route, and value a refined cabinet over assembling separate speakers.
- Look elsewhere in the category if you specifically want included rear speakers or a separate subwoofer, require DTS:X, or need a smaller or lighter unit.
- Check before buying that the stand has enough depth and load capacity, your TV can use eARC or optical output as needed, and your preferred Atmos service reaches Hekla through a supported route.
