A preview published by Rediff Markets on October 6, 2026, described expectations of double-digit Q2 growth at leading companies including Dabur, Marico and Godrej Consumer Products. Those are reported expectations, not published Q2 results, and the available information does not establish a verified sector-wide revenue or margin forecast.
Why can FMCG revenue rise while margins come under pressure?
Revenue measures sales; a margin measures how much profit remains from those sales. A company can sell more products or raise prices and report higher revenue even as costs for ingredients, packaging, freight or other operations rise. If costs increase faster than sales, operating profit may grow more slowly than revenue, and the operating margin—the share of revenue left as operating profit—may narrow.

Companies do not all face the same result. Volume growth, price increases, the mix of products sold, cost efficiencies and the geographies in which they operate can affect whether higher costs are absorbed, offset or passed on to customers. The headline’s reference to costs denting margins should therefore be read as a risk, not as a confirmed outcome for every FMCG company.
What is known about the Q2 outlook?
Rediff Markets’ October 6, 2026 listing reported expectations of double-digit Q2 growth among leading FMCG companies, naming Dabur, Marico and Godrej Consumer Products, while noting input-cost inflation. Q2 FY27 reporting activity was still upcoming at the authoritative research timestamp. Godrej Consumer Products’ investor page listed Q2 materials and an investor conference scheduled for October 29, 2026; Marico’s investor page listed a Q2 FY27 quarterly update, but its contents were not available in the page result. Neither listing establishes that results had been released. What does Dabur’s previous quarter show?
Dabur’s Q1 FY27 update is a company-specific example of how sales growth and cost pressure can coexist. On July 29, 2026, the company reported consolidated revenue of ₹3,764 crore, up 10.6% year over year, while its India FMCG business grew 9.5%. It also described persistent inflationary pressure and volatile commodity markets. These are Q1 figures and commentary, not evidence that the sector will deliver the same result in Q2.

Dabur CEO Mohit Malhotra said the company’s disciplined cost management, operational efficiencies and judicious price increases helped it report healthy profit growth during the quarter. How to assess company results when they arrive
To judge whether rising sales are translating into stronger profitability, compare like with like: the same quarter, the same reporting basis and the same geography. Consolidated revenue should not be directly compared with an India-only business figure. A company’s release can also distinguish reported sales growth from underlying volume growth, which helps show whether growth came from selling more units, raising prices or a change in product mix.

- Pricing and product mix: Look for management’s explanation of price changes and the mix of products sold; both can affect sales and margins.
- Costs and efficiency: Note commentary on commodity, packaging, freight and operating costs, as well as any stated efficiency or cost-management measures.
- Profit and margin: Compare operating profit or EBITDA growth with revenue growth, then check the reported margin and its change against the comparable period.
- Geography: Separate regional performance where companies operate across multiple markets; costs and growth drivers can differ by geography.
Keep reported results, management commentary and analyst estimates distinct. A company’s explanation of its own quarter is useful context, but it is not a sector-wide forecast.
