Which computers can run each DAW?
FL Studio works on Windows and macOS
Image-Line lists FL Studio for both Windows and macOS. That makes it the practical starting point if you need a Windows desktop DAW. Its product page also lists support for VST2, VST3, Audio Unit, and CLAP plugins. Check the specific plugin maker’s compatibility details before choosing based on a format alone.
Logic Pro is a Mac choice
Apple’s cited Logic Pro product and storefront offerings are for Mac. If you have only a Windows computer, Logic Pro is not the desktop option described by these sources. Mac users should also check Apple’s current system and storage requirements before installation; the US App Store listing checked on October 4, 2026, specified at least 6 GB of available storage and 44 GB or more for the full Sound Library.
How their composition and recording workflows differ
FL Studio: patterns, MIDI, and Piano Roll
Image-Line documents Piano Roll editing, MIDI support, pattern and song arrangement, automation clips, and a Mixer. That feature set makes FL Studio a natural candidate if you tend to sketch parts as repeating patterns, program drums, or do detailed MIDI note editing before arranging a track. Whether that pattern-based approach feels faster or more intuitive is personal; the listed features do not establish a measured speed advantage.

Logic Pro: recorded takes and integrated production tools
Apple describes Logic Pro as a production app for recording, editing, mixing, and mastering. Its features include Flashback Capture, which can preserve audio or MIDI played into a temporary background buffer, and Quick Swipe Comping for assembling a performance from multiple takes. Flex Time and Flex Pitch support timing and pitch editing, while Live Loops, Smart Tempo, Stem Splitter, and Session Players support other composition and production tasks.
Logic also includes instruments and effects such as Sample Alchemy, Quick Sampler, Drum Machine Designer, Alchemy, and Mastering Assistant. Those documented tools make it worth evaluating if you want a broad integrated environment on Mac, especially when recording performances and choosing among takes are central to your work. This is a workflow match based on the feature descriptions, not a controlled comparison of ease or speed.

Check FL Studio’s edition before buying
FL Studio editions do not include identical features. Image-Line’s edition comparison lists audio recording and Edison starting with Producer Edition and above; Fruity Edition is more limited in that respect. If recording audio into the DAW or using Edison matters to you, compare the exact edition’s current feature list before purchasing. Image-Line says you can upgrade an edition by paying the difference.
Image-Line describes its license as a one-time purchase of an edition, with free lifetime updates for that purchased edition. The entitlement applies to the edition you own; check Image-Line’s current terms if you are considering an upgrade or a different edition.

Compare the actual cost and access route
| Option | Terms displayed on October 4, 2026 | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| FL Studio edition | One-time purchase; price depends on edition, locale, and any promotion. Image-Line describes lifetime free updates for the purchased edition. | Use Image-Line’s checkout for a current local price, and compare the edition against your required features. Image-Line’s retrieved page did not reliably expose every localized numeric price. |
| FL Cloud | Optional subscription service; pricing depends on the plan and region. | Image-Line says FL Studio works fully without FL Cloud. The service adds offerings such as sounds, plugins, mastering, backup, and distribution; it is not a required FL Studio cost. |
| Logic Pro for Mac, standalone | Apple displayed $199.99 as a one-time purchase on its product page. | Price is Apple’s displayed amount at the time checked, not a guaranteed worldwide price. |
| Apple Creator Studio | Apple displayed $12.99 per month or $129 per year for new subscribers after a 30-day trial. Student and educator pricing shown was $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year. | The subscription bundle includes Logic Pro plus other Apple creative apps and content. Consider it if you will use the other included components; check the current local terms before subscribing. |
Apple’s figures above are from its product page checked on October 4, 2026; prices and availability may differ by storefront and change over time. Image-Line’s FL Studio edition pricing also depends on the chosen edition and checkout region. Compare the FL Studio edition you actually need with Logic’s standalone purchase or subscription access, rather than setting an optional FL Cloud plan against Logic as if both were mandatory.
Which DAW should you choose?
- You need Windows support: Start with FL Studio, which Image-Line lists for Windows and macOS. Apple’s cited Logic Pro offer is for Mac.
- You build around patterns, drums, and MIDI: Try FL Studio’s pattern arrangement and Piano Roll workflow and see whether it suits how you compose.
- You record multiple performances on a Mac: Evaluate Logic’s Quick Swipe Comping, Flashback Capture, and Flex tools against the way you record and edit.
- You need audio recording in FL Studio: Compare editions carefully; Image-Line lists audio recording and Edison in Producer Edition and above.
- You are weighing purchase against subscription: Compare the necessary FL Studio edition with Logic’s standalone option or Creator Studio access. Add FL Cloud or a bundle subscription only if its services or other apps are useful to you.
- You rely on particular plugins or hardware: Confirm compatibility for the exact plugin, operating system, and device before committing. Image-Line lists several plugin formats, but that does not verify every plugin’s compatibility.
What this comparison cannot establish
The cited vendor pages describe features, licensing, and displayed pricing; they do not establish that one DAW has better audio quality, runs faster, is more reliable, or takes less time to learn. Those outcomes depend on the computer, project, plugins, and the producer’s experience, and no controlled comparison is cited here.
