If a Playwright screenshot stops at the bottom of the visible viewport, first request a full-page screenshot: await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });. Playwright captures the viewport by default. If the bottom is still missing, check for a restrictive clip rectangle, identify which element actually scrolls, and wait for the page layout to settle before capture.
1. Ask Playwright to capture the full page
A plain page.screenshot() captures the current viewport. The documented default for fullPage is false; set it to true to request a screenshot of the full scrollable page.

await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
In Python, the option uses a snake-case name:
await page.screenshot(path="page.png", full_page=True)
Playwright defines a full-page screenshot as a capture of the full scrollable page, as if it were displayed on a screen tall enough to show it all. That does not guarantee that content inside every application-specific scrolling panel will be included; check the actual scroll owner if the bottom remains absent. Playwright: Screenshots

If your screenshot call includes clip, its x, y, width, and height specify a bounded rectangle. A rectangle shorter than the content will cut off the bottom, even if the page itself is longer.

await page.screenshot({
path: 'page.png',
fullPage: true
// Remove clip while diagnosing, if your call currently supplies one.
});
Temporarily remove the clip and capture again. If the missing content returns, adjust the rectangle to the intended area or leave it out when you need the full page. Playwright: page.screenshot() options
3. Find out which element owns the scrolling
Full-page capture targets the page’s scrollable area. Some layouts instead place the main content in a nested element with its own scrollbar, while the document itself does not scroll through that content. Inspect the page in the browser’s developer tools and determine whether the scrollbar belongs to the document or a panel.

- If the document scrolls, use
fullPage: true(orfull_page=Truein Python). - If a nested panel scrolls, capture the relevant element or use a capture strategy that accounts for that container. There is no universal nested-scroller recipe in the page screenshot option; the right approach depends on the page structure.
Playwright supports element screenshots as well as page screenshots. Choose an element capture when the desired output is one specific component rather than the entire document. Playwright: Screenshots

4. Wait for the content and layout to become stable
A screenshot can reflect a page before its final content or geometry has settled. Wait for a meaningful condition—such as the relevant content appearing or a loading indicator disappearing—rather than adding an arbitrary delay and assuming it fixes the cause.

For pages where animation causes inconsistent captures, Playwright’s screenshot API provides an animations option; its default is allow. The API also supports a stylesheet for hiding dynamic elements or adjusting styles during capture. These options can make screenshots more repeatable, but they do not correct a mistaken capture boundary or identify a nested scroll container for you. Playwright: page.screenshot() options
5. Separate image scale from capture area
The scale option changes the pixel density of the output, not how far down the page the screenshot reaches.

If the image has unexpected pixel dimensions, check scale and device settings. If content is missing at the bottom, return to fullPage, clip, and the element that scrolls; changing scale does not recover omitted content. Playwright: page.screenshot() options

A closed Playwright issue opened on June 9, 2022 described a full-page screenshot assertion that captured only the viewport. The report used Playwright 1.22.2 with Chromium on Windows and Linux. It is a version- and environment-specific historical report, not evidence that current Playwright generally clips full-page screenshots. Playwright issue #14361

Before diagnosing a framework regression, reproduce the problem with your installed Playwright version, browser, viewport, page structure, and a minimal example. Confirm that the issue remains after checking the requested capture area, clip, scroll owner, and page state.

| Symptom | Likely check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Image ends at the viewport edge | The call uses the default viewport-only capture. | Set fullPage: true or Python’s full_page=True. |
| Image ends at the same fixed height despite full-page capture | A clip rectangle may bound the output. |
Remove the clip to test; then enlarge or omit it as appropriate. |
| Document capture omits content inside a panel | The panel, not the document, may own scrolling. | Inspect the layout and capture the relevant element or handle that container specifically. |
| Bottom edge varies between runs | Content or layout may still be changing at capture time. | Wait for a page-specific condition; consider screenshot animation or stylesheet options if motion is involved. |
| Image has the wrong pixel dimensions but includes the right content | scale or device pixel density may explain the size. |
Choose css or device based on the required output density. |
| All basic checks pass, but full-page capture still fails | A version-specific browser or framework problem is possible, but not established by the historical report alone. | Reduce the page to a minimal reproduction and record the installed version, browser, viewport, and layout. |

If you need a screenshot without building and maintaining a Playwright capture setup, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from one GET request. For example, this cURL request saves a WebP screenshot of Stripe:

Frequently Asked Questions
Does setting `scale: ‘device’` make a screenshot capture more of the page?
No. It changes pixel density, not the capture boundary. Use `fullPage` for the full scrollable page and inspect any `clip` rectangle if content is still cropped.
Does the 2022 Playwright issue prove full-page screenshots are broken now?
No. It concerned Playwright 1.22.2 with Chromium on Windows and Linux. Reproduce on your current version and setup before treating it as a current framework regression.
