Since it has not launched yet, these are five promising features—not a claim of personal play experience. The handling impressions below come from Xbox Wire editor Mike Nelson’s hands-on preview; the other details are from official game materials.
1. Star Wars racing is getting a new chapter
Racing has been part of Star Wars since the podrace in The Phantom Menace and the game Star Wars: Episode I: Racer. Galactic Racer takes that legacy into a new setting: the lawless Outer Rim after the Empire’s fall, where racers compete in the Galactic League. Lucasfilm Games VP and GM Douglas Reilly said Fuse Games proposed “a new expression of racing in a galaxy far, far away.” StarWars.com’s announcement and interview lays out the premise and its connection to the franchise’s racing history.

2. Runs-based races put risk at the center
The Xbox Store describes Galactic Racer as a runs-based racing game set in an underground circuit where fortunes can be won and lost quickly. Its pitch is straightforward: “The greater the risk, the greater the reward.” That makes the prospect of each race more consequential than simply chasing a best time, though the store listing does not spell out the detailed structure of a run. It is an intriguing promise for players who want tension as well as speed, rather than a standard sequence of races. The Xbox Store listing also identifies the game’s single-player and online modes.
3. Different craft have different handling trade-offs
Vehicle variety matters most when it changes how a race feels. In his June 2026 hands-on preview for Xbox Wire, Mike Nelson described three distinct styles: landspeeders felt weighty and well suited to drifting; speeder bikes were quick in a straight line but harder to control through corners; and skim speeders could make hard-banking turns, though they were more difficult to handle. Those are qualitative impressions from Nelson’s preview session, not measured performance claims.

The official site also names podracers alongside landspeeders, speeder bikes and skim speeders. That lineup suggests a welcome range of familiar Star Wars silhouettes, with the preview’s handling differences giving reason to expect that choosing a craft will involve a driving-style trade-off as well as looks.
4. There is a campaign as well as multiplayer
The story-driven campaign casts the player as Shade, a racer pursuing revenge and glory. That gives the racing a character-led thread, while the official pitch also includes strategic PvP grudge matches for players who want to settle scores against other racers. Nelson’s preview session included both campaign and arcade modes.

The Xbox listing specifies single-player and online multiplayer for 2–12 players, including Xbox cross-platform multiplayer. Console online multiplayer requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate, sold separately; that requirement is for online play, not the listed single-player mode. Check the store listing for current terms in your region.
5. The races look physical, customizable and rooted in Star Wars locations
The official descriptions emphasize slamming, shunting and takedowns, alongside vehicle customization and distinct craft physics. That points to racing where contact and control matter, rather than a purely clean-line time trial. The announcement also introduces Jakku as an unsanctioned racetrack, and the official site names locations including Tatooine, Ando Prime, Lantaana, Sentinel I and Derven Acos. The sources name these worlds but do not establish that each one has a unique track.

The supported platform name is Xbox Series X|S. Microsoft’s US store listing, accessed in 2026, gives an October 6, 2026 release date and showed prices of $59.99 or more for the base game and $79.99 or more for Deluxe. The official site says physical Standard and Deluxe editions are available for Xbox Series X|S and PS5. Edition contents and regional availability may differ, so confirm the listing before buying. For Xbox Series X owners, the clearest reasons to be interested are the contrast between vehicle handling styles, the risk-and-reward race premise, and a campaign paired with multiplayer—all promises to revisit once the game launches.
