How progression works in Fishing Inc
Fishing Inc is an incremental fishing game from BigBonk Studio. The Steam listing gives April 14, 2026 as the PC release date, while the Google Play listing describes the same progression loop on Android. In both versions, progress comes from repeating short fishing trips and converting each successful catch into permanent improvements.

- Choose a fishing spot or pond. Each location has its own fish roster, so traveling is how you reach species that are unavailable in your current area.
- Complete the active fishing interaction. Steam describes a click-based challenge: keep clicking until you reach the target without losing the fish.
- Return with your catch and earn cash. The money from trips is the resource used for progression.
- Buy skills and equipment. Upgrades are designed to help with bigger, tougher, and more exotic fish.
- Track discoveries. The Fish Log records species, and Legendary fish provide the main collection chase after ordinary progression is no longer enough.
This means the game has two overlapping forms of progress. Your practical power is represented by skills and equipment, while your collection progress is represented by new locations, species discoveries, rarities, and the Fish Log.

Fishing spots: what they unlock and what is not documented
Locations determine the available fish
Fishing spots and ponds are not merely visual changes. The official descriptions say that the game contains many locations, each with different fish to catch. Moving to a new area therefore expands the pool of species you can encounter and gives you access to later collection targets.
In practical terms, a spot is a progression gate: you travel there when it becomes available, then use the local fish to earn more cash and fill additional Fish Log entries. A location can be useful even when its fish are harder to catch, because it may be the only place where a missing species appears.
There is no authoritative public unlock table
Neither the Steam description nor the Google Play listing publishes a complete list of pond names, unlock levels, fish-by-spot tables, rarity rates, or per-location drop rates. Do not assume that a level number or percentage copied from a community post applies to the current build.
To check your own progression, open the travel or location screen and inspect which destinations are available, locked, or marked with a requirement. If a spot remains locked, continue improving the catch difficulty that is blocking your current area, then check the travel screen again. The game’s interface, not a generic online checklist, is the reliable source for your edition and update.
The fishing interaction and why upgrades matter
Reach the target without losing the fish
Steam’s description explains the core interaction as clicking until a target is reached before the fish gets away. That makes each catch a short execution check, not a passive timer. A fish that is technically available may still be inefficient to pursue if your current skill or equipment leaves little room for mistakes.
When a catch repeatedly fails, the useful question is not simply “Which fish is rare?” Ask whether the problem is the current fishing interaction, the fish’s toughness, or a lack of the equipment and skill needed for that class of catch. Spend cash on the upgrade that addresses the immediate difficulty, then test the same spot again.

Cash is the engine of the loop
Cash earned on trips is spent after returning. The progression loop therefore rewards a cycle of short, reliable trips rather than repeatedly attempting a fish that you cannot land. A dependable catch gives you the money needed to improve your setup; the improved setup opens harder fish and later locations.

Because the published descriptions do not provide a complete upgrade-cost table, there is no defensible universal order such as “buy level three of skill X before equipment Y.” Use the price and effect shown in your current Upgrade tab and compare it with the obstacle you are facing.
Which upgrades should you buy first?
Early game: remove the current bottleneck
During early progression, prioritize the skill or equipment upgrade that makes your present catches more consistent. The official descriptions frame upgrades around taking on tougher species and landing bigger fish, so an upgrade that directly improves your ability to finish the current fishing interaction is normally more valuable than a purchase aimed at a distant collection goal.
- If ordinary fish are escaping during the click challenge, choose the available skill or equipment that addresses catch difficulty.
- If you can land current fish consistently but cannot progress to larger species, favor the upgrade that supports bigger or tougher catches.
- If a purchase consumes nearly all of your cash and leaves no way to fund another trip, keep a reserve for the next reliable run instead of spending blindly.
Mid game: balance earning power and access
Once a spot is comfortable, compare upgrades by what they unlock. A stronger setup can increase the range of fish you can attempt, while a cheaper improvement may make your existing route faster and more reliable. Switch between these goals rather than treating every upgrade as a permanent best-in-slot choice.
Use the travel screen and Fish Log together. If a new location is available, it may be the best next investment because it adds species to your collection. If no new location is close, improve the setup that lets you catch the largest or most difficult fish currently visible.
Collection-focused play: optimize for missing entries
When your main objective is a completed Fish Log, cash efficiency is only part of the decision. A species you already own may be a better money source, but it cannot fill a missing entry. Select the pond and catch difficulty that give you a realistic chance of discovering the fish or rarity you still need.

Rarity progression and the post-story Rarity Selection feature
What rarity means
Google Play describes increasingly rare catches and Legendary fish as part of the game’s progression. Rarity is therefore a collection layer on top of ordinary species: advancing is not only about finding a new pond, but also about discovering less common versions of catches and completing the higher-value entries in the Fish Log.
The public listings do not state exact rarity percentages. Avoid treating a displayed label such as rare or Legendary as a guaranteed schedule, and do not infer a drop rate from a small number of trips.
How Rarity Selection works after the main story
Developer patch notes add a post-story Rarity Selection feature. After you complete the main story, the game lets you select which rarities you want to catch. This is intended to make end-game Fish Log completion more targeted instead of leaving the final entries entirely to random selection.

If it is unavailable, finish the main story and check the Upgrades tab or the relevant post-story menu in your current version. A Steam Community discussion also reports that the Upgrades tab allows rarity adjustment after beating the game; that is player testimony rather than a formal specification, so the in-game label should take precedence if the menu differs.
How to catch Legendary fish
Legendary catches are presented as a collection goal rather than a separate story campaign. The reliable path is to progress through locations, strengthen your skills and equipment, and use the Fish Log to identify what is still missing.
- Advance far enough to complete the main story and unlock the post-story systems.
- Open the Fish Log and identify the species or rarity entries you have not discovered.
- Use the travel screen to choose a pond associated with the relevant fish pool.
- Improve the skill or equipment that makes the active catch interaction difficult before repeatedly attempting the target.
- After the story is complete, use Rarity Selection to focus on the rarity category needed for the remaining entries.
- Record each new discovery in the Fish Log and change your target when the current entry is complete.
There is no published Legendary percentage or guaranteed catch sequence. A failed attempt does not establish that a fish is unavailable; it may reflect the selected spot, the current rarity setting, or the difficulty of the fishing interaction.

Using the Fish Log as a progression tool
The Fish Log is more than a trophy list. It tells you which discoveries remain and gives you a concrete reason to revisit earlier ponds after your equipment has improved.

- Separate species from rarity goals. A species can be discovered while a rarer version remains outstanding, so note exactly what the entry requires.
- Revisit older locations. Better equipment can turn a previously impractical fish into a reliable source of discoveries.
- Use the end-game tracker order. Patch notes say fish-tracker entries are ordered by likely catch position, reducing the time spent searching through the list.
End-game quality-of-life features
Auto-click toggle
The same update that introduced Rarity Selection added an auto-click toggle. This is intended to reduce repetitive input while you work through end-game catches. It does not replace the need to choose the correct spot, rarity target, and upgrade path; it simply lowers the friction of the active clicking step when you are farming or completing the log.
Ordered fish tracker
Fish-tracker entries were also reordered by likely catch position. Use that ordering as a practical search aid: start with the entries near the current position, then move through the list as discoveries are recorded. The ordering is a navigation convenience, not a published probability table.

Step 1: establish a reliable cash route
Fish the pond where you can complete catches consistently. The goal is repeatable cash, not the highest theoretical rarity. Spend the resulting money on the upgrade that addresses your current failure point.
Step 2: test the next available location
Return to the travel screen after upgrading. If a new pond is unlocked, try its fish and note which ones can be landed reliably. Keep the previous location as a fallback when the new fish consume too much time or cause frequent failures.

Step 3: alternate power and collection goals
Use normal progression to improve your setup, then make deliberate Fish Log runs for missing species. This prevents a common mistake: spending every trip on money while leaving easy collection entries untouched, or chasing rare entries with equipment that is not ready.

Step 4: finish the story before optimizing rarity
Rarity Selection is a post-story feature. Complete the main story first, then use the rarity controls and ordered tracker to clean up the remaining Fish Log entries.
Common problems and fixes
“A new fishing spot will not unlock.”
There is no public master table that can confirm a universal unlock level. Check the current travel screen for its stated requirement, continue upgrading the setup used in your latest available pond, and verify that you have returned from the trip so earned cash has been applied.
“I keep losing the same fish.”
That usually indicates a catch-difficulty bottleneck rather than proof that the fish is impossible. Buy the skill or equipment upgrade most directly connected to catching tougher or bigger fish, then retry from a reliable cash position.
“I cannot select a rarity.”
Rarity Selection is documented as a post-story feature. Finish the main story, then inspect the Upgrades tab or post-story menus. If your menu does not show it, confirm that the game has installed the update containing the feature.
“The Fish Log is missing a species.”
Check other ponds rather than repeating one location indefinitely. Locations have different fish rosters. After the main story, select the needed rarity and use the ordered tracker to narrow your search.
What is known about the current release
Steam lists Fishing Inc as released on April 14, 2026. Google Play showed more than 10,000 downloads in its listing current on September 17, 2026. Those figures identify the versions and listing snapshots, but they do not establish universal balance values such as drop rates or upgrade costs.
The most reliable progression information remains the labels and requirements shown in your installed game: travel availability, the Upgrade tab, the Fish Log, and the post-story rarity controls. Community discussions can suggest where a feature appears, but they should not override the current interface.
