When comparing refrigerators, check whether each figure is net or gross capacity; figures based on different methods are not directly interchangeable.
Will it fit your kitchen?
CHOICE’s listing gives product measurements of 170 cm high, 68 cm wide and 72 cm deep. The same page lists installation recommendations of 82 cm depth, 180 cm height and 78 cm width. These are the figures displayed by CHOICE, not a substitute for checking the manual for the particular appliance and measuring your own space, including the room needed for doors, ventilation and access.

What the newer related model can—and cannot—tell you
Fisher & Paykel’s E442BRXFD5 is a related Series 5 model, not the E442BRE5. Its product page and quick reference guide describe a bottom-freezer refrigerator with 413 L net capacity (294 L refrigerator and 119 L freezer), 442 L gross capacity, dimensions of 1715 × 680 × 695 mm, and energy use of 428 kWh per year. The quick reference guide is dated 23 April 2026.

The difference between the related model’s 413 L net capacity and 442 L gross capacity illustrates why capacity figures need a stated basis. These E442BRXFD5 specifications do not establish the E442BRE5’s dimensions, features or capacity basis, and should not be used as a replacement for checking the exact appliance.

Buying a used E442BRE5
Because CHOICE marks the model discontinued, a used unit’s condition and the support available for that specific appliance matter more than a historical listing. Before buying, check:
- Condition: Inspect the interior, seals, shelves, drawers and exterior; confirm that the refrigerator and freezer cool properly.
- Fit: Measure the actual unit and your installation space. Do not assume the listed installation recommendations guarantee a fit in your kitchen.
- Support and parts: Ask the seller or a service provider whether support and any parts you might need are available for this exact model.
- Energy information: Treat CHOICE’s 428 kWh/year and three-star rating as figures listed in connection with a 2016 test, not as a current comparison with newer refrigerators.
These are sensible checks for a discontinued appliance; they are not evidence that the E442BRE5 has a documented defect.

The E442BRE5’s published figures describe a 442 L bottom-freezer refrigerator, but its detailed test performance is not visible in CHOICE’s public listing, and the model is discontinued. For a second-hand purchase, make the decision on the individual unit’s condition, fit and support—not on specifications from a newer related model.
