Five zones and the dual zone
The five-zone layout gives you space to use several pans at once, while the central dual zone is designed to accommodate a wider range of pan sizes. CHOICE’s Australian listing gives usable pan-diameter ranges of 12–14.5cm for two elements, 14.5–18cm for two elements, and 12.5–25cm (small) or 18–26cm (large) for the dual zone. Those are details from the Australian listing; check the manual for your market and cookware before relying on them.

What controls and safety features does it have?
The manufacturer lists touch-and-slide controls, nine heat settings, GentleHeat, PowerBoost, zone timers and a minute timer. Fisher & Paykel describes GentleHeat as a feature and does not provide further detail in the cited specifications, so check the manual if its precise operation matters to you.

What size cutout does the CI905DTB2 need?
The overall product size and cabinet installation size are different measurements. Fisher & Paykel gives the cooktop’s overall dimensions as 900 × 530 × 49mm. CHOICE’s Australian listing gives an installation dimension of 870 × 490mm (87 × 49cm). Do not treat the overall width and depth as the cutout dimensions.
Before purchase, compare the installation guide for the exact model and market with the actual benchtop opening and cabinet below it. A qualified installer can confirm clearances and fit; the listed dimensions alone do not establish that a particular countertop is suitable. Does the CI905DTB2 need a 48A supply?
The UK manufacturer page specifies 220–240V and 48A. That is a UK-market specification, not a universal electrical requirement. Supply and circuit requirements can vary by market and installation, so have an appropriately qualified local installer check the exact model’s installation guide and your home’s electrical service before purchase or installation.

What do independent reviews say about performance?
CHOICE’s public listing attributes its review to Fiona Mair, whom it identifies as a kitchen-lab appliance tester. Its metadata gives a test year of “2023 or earlier.” The expert rating and detailed results for cooking performance, ease of use, low-heat cooking, high-heat cooking and boil time are members-only. The public information therefore does not support a numerical performance verdict or a claim that CHOICE recommends the model.
CHOICE lists a maximum output of 9.8kW. That is an Australian listing figure; it is not the same as the manufacturer guide’s stated maximum PowerBoost output of up to 5,500W for the centre dual zone. These figures describe different things and should not be substituted for one another. CHOICE’s public specifications · Fisher & Paykel’s quick reference guide.

This model may suit a kitchen where a 90cm cooktop fits, multiple pans are used regularly, and a large dual zone would be useful. Its controls, timers, pan detection and listed safety features add practical flexibility. The case for buying it is weaker if you do not need five zones or cannot confirm a suitable cutout, electrical supply and local service support.
When comparing it with another cooktop, focus on the usable pan sizes and zone layout, installation dimensions, local electrical requirements, public availability of independent test results, and local stock and service. Do not assume another CI905 model variant has the same specifications: Fisher & Paykel’s product results include variants such as CI905DTB4 and CI905DTTB1 with distinct specifications.
