Fisher & Paykel CI604DTB2 Review: Paired SmartZones, Specs, Fit and Availability

The Fisher & Paykel CI604DTB2 is a 60 cm induction cooktop with four cooking zones, two of which can be paired into a single larger cooking area called a SmartZone. That pairing is its most distinctive feature. Whether it is a good buy depends on three things that are easy to overlook: whether its dimensions match your cabinet opening, whether your local electrical supply suits it, and whether it is still sold in your country. CHOICE Australia lists the model as discontinued in Australia, so availability is the first thing to confirm. No independent performance test results for this model are available from accessible sources, so the assessment below rests on manufacturer specifications and the CHOICE listing.

What the CI604DTB2 is

Fisher & Paykel classes the CI604DTB2 as a Series 7 model: a 60 cm, four-zone induction cooktop with two SmartZones. It has Touch&Slide controls, a minute timer, and a separate auto cut-off timer for each zone. Performance features include PowerBoost, GentleHeat, nine heat settings and zone bridging. The official product page and quick reference guide are the sources for these listed features.

Two sources give specifications for this model, and they do not fully agree. The table below sets them side by side without merging them. Where a value appears in only one source, the other column says so.

The footprint figures are the main reason to check before buying. The official depth of 450 mm and the CHOICE overall dimension of 53 cm are not the same measurement, and the sources do not explain the difference. Use the figures on the rating plate and in the installation guide for your exact unit, and compare them with your own cabinet opening rather than either published number.

How the cooking zones work

SmartZone pairing

SmartZone links two adjacent cooking zones so they act as one. Fisher & Paykel’s product guide describes it this way: “SmartZone links two cooking zones and controls them as one, giving you the flexibility to use large pans and griddles and easily handle bigger food items like pancakes.” In practice this means you can use a griddle or a long pan across two zones instead of relying on a single circle of heat. Whether the paired area heats evenly across its whole width is not established by the manufacturer material or by any accessible independent test.

PowerBoost and GentleHeat

PowerBoost provides the highest heat setting, rated at 3700 W in the guide. Fisher & Paykel states that PowerBoost can bring liquid to a boil in less than a minute. That is a manufacturer claim; it has not been independently verified, and the time will depend on the volume of liquid, the pan and the starting temperature. GentleHeat is the low-heat option for tasks such as melting or keeping food warm. With nine heat settings in total, the full range sits between these two ends.

Duxtop Portable Induction Cooktop, Countertop Burner 1800W Silver 9600LS
  • PORTABLE INDUCTION BURNER: Duxtop induction cooktop uses 110/120 V 15 amp electrical outlet–standard in all North American homes. ETL listed and built to North American electrical standards. It is lightweight and compact for easy handling and storage
  • Choose from 20 preset power levels (100 to 1800 W) and 20 preset temperature level settings (100 °F to 460 °F). With an 83% energy efficiency, induction burner is more efficient than traditional gas or electric stoves
  • DIGITAL LCD SENSOR: Touch control panel: child safety lock keeps the cooking and timer settings from being accidentally changed once they have been set; fast boil button; keep warm button (for 1-30 minutes at 140 °F); up to 10-hour timer button
  • Induction stoves rely on cookware to heat, so it’s essential to choose magnetic bottom cookware with a minimum diameter of 5 inches. Auto-pan detection will shut off automatically after 60 seconds if no cookware, or the incorrect cookware is detected
  • Although induction itself is a noiseless process, there may be high pitched sounds from the cookware due to multiple layers of metals sandwiched together. Please allow the induction cooker to cool down before cleaning

Controls and timers

Touch&Slide lets you adjust heat by sliding a finger along the control strip, rather than tapping a series of buttons. Each zone has its own auto cut-off timer, and a separate minute timer is included. Zone bridging is the pairing mechanism described above, so the two features are the same function seen from different angles.

Safety and cleaning

The listed safety features are:

  • Keylock: locks the controls so they cannot be changed accidentally.
  • Pan detection: a zone only heats when suitable cookware is placed on it.
  • Safety time out: switches off a zone left running for an extended period.
  • Spillage auto-off: shuts down the cooktop when liquid spills across the controls.
  • Hot-surface indicators: show when a zone is still hot after use.

The glass surface is flat, which makes wiping it down straightforward. Induction heats the cookware, not the glass. The manufacturer describes the surface as heating when cookware is placed on it, but a hot pan can still leave residual heat on the glass, so the hot-surface indicators are worth relying on rather than assuming the surface is cool.

Will it fit your kitchen?

Before you commit, check each of the following against the exact unit you are considering:

  • The cabinet opening (cutout) on the installation guide for that specific model, not a general product figure. The two published sources differ, and only CHOICE gives a cutout (56 x 49 cm).
  • The supply voltage. The official guide lists 220–240 V. Confirm this matches your local supply, and have the installation carried out by a qualified electrician.
  • The power demand. The guide rates each zone at 2100 W and PowerBoost at 3700 W, while CHOICE lists a 7 kW maximum output. These are different measures from different sources, and the sources do not explain how they relate, so check your circuit’s rating with the installer.
  • The rating plate on the unit, which is the authoritative reference for dimensions and electrical data.

Performance evidence

No accessible independent test scores for this model are available. CHOICE’s listing reports tests from 2023 or earlier, and some of its performance data is restricted to members. That means boil times, heat distribution, efficiency and reliability cannot be compared with other cooktops from an independent source here. The efficiency figure of 86% is Fisher & Paykel’s own specification and should be read as such, not as a comparison against competing models.

Cookware

Because the CI604DTB2 is induction, it only heats cookware with a magnetic base. Pans that work on induction are the practical requirement, and the SmartZone pairing makes large pans and griddles relevant. Check the base diameter and the cookware’s induction compatibility against the zone size. The sources do not test specific pans on this cooktop, so compatibility with any individual pan is something to confirm for yourself.

Who should consider it

The CI604DTB2 suits a buyer who wants four induction zones in a 60 cm cooktop, values the option to pair two zones for griddles or large pans, and can confirm three things: a matching cabinet opening, a local electrical supply that fits the listed voltage, and a supplier that still sells the model. If any of those three is uncertain, look at current models from the manufacturer that are listed for your market before deciding.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
