Can you use a streaming stick with a computer monitor?
Potentially. The Fire TV Stick 4K Select connects through HDMI: Amazon lists one HDMI output and its setup instructions say, “Plug the Fire TV Stick into your TV’s HDMI port.” That establishes the connection the device uses, not a guarantee that every computer monitor will work. Whether your monitor can display the signal depends on its own inputs and capabilities.
Before buying, look up your monitor’s exact model in its manual or specifications and check these items:

- Getting set up is easy – Plug in and connect to Wi-Fi for smooth streaming.
- HDMI input: The monitor needs an HDMI input compatible with the stick’s connection. A monitor with only a different type of input is not an HDMI-ready match.
- Resolution: Confirm the monitor supports a resolution the streaming device and content can use. Actual playback resolution depends on the display and the content path.
- HDCP: Protected video can require compatible copy-protection support. Amazon lists HDCP 1.4, 2.2, and 2.3 for the stick.
- Audio: HDMI carries audio from the stick, but the monitor needs speakers or a compatible audio output path for you to hear it.
- Power and setup: Check the device’s setup requirements and whether your planned connection leaves room for the stick and its power connection.
If you cannot confirm the monitor’s HDMI, HDCP, resolution, and audio details from its model-specific documentation, treat compatibility as uncertain rather than assuming the stick will turn it into a television.
What HDCP means for protected 4K video
HDCP is copy-protection technology used in some video paths. Amazon lists HDCP 1.4, 2.2, and 2.3 support for the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, and its 4K help page says the device may notify you if HDCP 2.2 is not detected. That matters especially if you expect protected 4K content: an older monitor or another part of the connection path may not meet the relevant requirement, which can limit playback.

A 4K label on the stick does not establish that an older monitor will show protected content in 4K. Check the monitor’s specifications and account for the entire connection path; resolution and playback depend on the display and content setup.
Plan how you will hear the stream
A monitor may accept the HDMI picture without giving you a useful way to hear the program. First check whether it has built-in speakers or an audio output you can use. If it has neither, you will need another compatible audio route. The right option depends on the monitor and the rest of your setup, so do not assume a particular accessory is required or will work without checking compatibility.

Is the $18 price still available?
Tom’s Guide reported the Fire TV Stick 4K Select at $17.99 in the US on October 6, 2026. That was a reported sale price on that date, not proof of a stable price or a current offer. Prices and stock can change; check the live listing in your market before purchasing. Amazon describes the 4K Select as its most affordable 4K streaming stick, which is the company’s own positioning rather than an independent value assessment.

The stick is a plausible way to add streaming to a spare monitor when that monitor has a compatible HDMI input, supports the video you want to watch, and provides or can route audio. It is a less certain choice for a very old display with unclear HDCP support, no practical audio output, or only non-HDMI inputs. In those cases, verify the exact monitor model and connection path first; the available specifications do not certify compatibility with every monitor.
