You can find employers with open jobs without LinkedIn by combining company careers pages, public employment services, job boards, local listings and recruitment agencies. Then confirm each vacancy on the employer’s own website and use the contact route named in the ad—or ask the company to direct you to recruitment.
Start with a focused list of roles and employers
Before searching, write down the job titles you want and close variants, the skills you can offer, your preferred locations or remote-work limits, the seniority level you are targeting, and relevant sectors. These terms help you search consistently across employers and job services.

Keep a simple record for each lead: employer, role, link to the posting, date you checked it, contact route and next action. The PEV Employment Support Service recommends recording applications, website links and dates; using the same approach to track potential employers is a practical extension of that advice (PEV fact sheet, November 2025).
Check employer websites for vacancies
A company’s own careers page is a useful place to look: the UK National Careers Service notes that many employers recruit through their websites. Page names vary, so try Careers, Jobs, Join the team, Working for us and Current vacancies. These labels are also listed in Australian government job-search guidance (UK National Careers Service; Australian Department of Employment and Workplace Relations).
#1 Best Overall
- Choose employers in your target sectors and locations.
- Visit each employer’s official website and look for a careers or vacancies page.
- Search the page for your role title and related skills or job titles.
- Save the official listing and note the date you checked it.
Company social accounts are optional discovery routes; they are not required for this process.
Expand your search beyond company sites
Use more than one route: each can surface different employers, sectors or kinds of support. The examples below are specific to the named countries, not a complete directory for every location.
Rank #2
| Route | Where it can help | Examples and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Public employment services | Government job banks and local employment assistance | In the United States, USAGov points to CareerOneStop, state job banks and American Job Centers; use the relevant state or territory careers page for state government roles. USAJOBS is the federal jobs portal, not a general portal for every U.S. vacancy (USAGov; USAJOBS). |
| Job boards and specialist boards | Broad discovery, role or sector searches, and alerts where offered | The UK National Careers Service recommends boards and journals among its search routes. Australian government guidance includes Workforce Australia and other job boards (UK National Careers Service; Australian Department of Employment and Workplace Relations). |
| Local listings and community services | Roles tied to a town, region or local employer | Depending on location, check local newspapers, libraries, council pages, university or community career services, and job fairs. USAGov lists newspapers and libraries; UK guidance includes local councils, fairs and libraries (USAGov; UK National Careers Service). |
| Recruitment agencies | Human support and roles an employer may not advertise broadly | Agencies are included in UK and Australian job-search guidance. Ask about the kinds of roles and locations they cover, and follow their application process (UK National Careers Service; Australian Department of Employment and Workplace Relations). |
If you live outside the United States, United Kingdom or Australia, look for your own country’s official employment service and government careers pages, then use local employer sites and job services for the rest of the search.

Where a job service offers alerts or matching, set them for the role terms and locations you chose. The UK National Careers Service says most job boards provide email alerts; Australian government guidance describes job matching and alerts (UK National Careers Service; Australian Department of Employment and Workplace Relations). Also revisit the careers pages of employers on your target list: an alert is a discovery aid, not confirmation that a vacancy remains open.

Before applying—or telling someone that a company is hiring—open the employer’s official listing. Check that it is still available, that the location and eligibility requirements fit, and that you understand how the employer wants applications submitted. If the ad has closed or disappeared, do not assume an older copy on another site is current.
Find the right person or team to contact
- Read the job ad. Look for a recruiter, hiring manager or recruitment-team contact, along with any instructions about questions or applications.
- Check the employer’s pages. If no contact is named, look at Careers, About Us and Contact for HR or recruitment details.
- Ask to be routed if needed. Use the company’s published main phone number or email and ask who handles recruitment for the role or team. At larger organizations, that is often HR; at smaller businesses, it may be a manager or owner (Australian Department of Employment and Workplace Relations).
- Use a neutral greeting when there is no name. “Dear Hiring Manager” or “To the Recruitment Team” avoids guessing. Do not invent a person’s name or guess a private email address (PEV fact sheet, November 2025).
Make a brief, relevant inquiry
Research the employer and the role before you call or write. Explain which position you mean, why you are contacting them and, briefly, how your experience or skills fit. Use a professional email address; include a concise résumé if appropriate. For a call, write down your key points and ask for the correct recruitment contact.
Rank #4
Choose a suitable time to call. If you plan to visit an employer in person, the UK National Careers Service advises arranging an appointment where possible and being ready to answer questions or provide a CV (UK National Careers Service). Direct outreach is an inquiry, not a way to guarantee that you can skip a formal application process: follow the employer’s stated instructions. Be prepared for a rejection or no reply, and keep your message polite and specific (Australian Department of Employment and Workplace Relations).
