Open My Files and check Downloads first. If the document is not there, search its name, check Recent, then browse internal or available external storage. Its location depends on the app that saved it, and some app downloads can only be opened inside that app.
Find a downloaded document in My Files
- Open My Files. If it is not on your home screen or in the app drawer, search the app list for “My Files”; Samsung says it is commonly in the Samsung folder. Samsung UK
- Tap Downloads and look for the document. This category is the quickest first stop for downloaded files. Samsung Canada
- If you do not see it, tap the search icon in My Files and enter all or part of the filename. You can also check Recent for files you have accessed lately. Samsung Gulf
- Browse Internal storage, then open the Download folder. The folder may be called “Download” even though the My Files category is labeled “Downloads.” Samsung Ukraine
Samsung notes that saved files can be in different locations, so Downloads is a useful starting point, not a guaranteed location for every document. Samsung Canada

Why the document may be somewhere else
The browser or app chose another folder
The saving app matters. Samsung says Samsung Internet and Chrome commonly use the Download folder by default, while other browsers may use their own folders; settings can also change where a browser saves files. If you remember which app created the file, check that app’s download history or storage settings. Samsung Ukraine

The download is available only inside its app
Some offline downloads, particularly protected streaming content, are stored securely and are not exposed as ordinary files in My Files. Open the app that downloaded the content to view or play it. That content is not necessarily a document you can browse or move like a PDF or spreadsheet. Samsung UK

If a document is missing
- My Files is hard to find: Search the app list for “My Files.” It may be grouped in the Samsung folder. Samsung UK
- Downloads is empty: Search by filename, check Recent and Internal storage > Download, then consider other storage or the app/browser that saved the file.
- An offline video or song is absent: Check the originating app; protected downloads may not appear in My Files. Samsung UK
- You may have deleted it: Open My Files > Recycle Bin promptly and see whether the file is still there. Samsung Brazil says items are permanently deleted after 30 days, while Samsung Gulf gives a 15-day period. These are regional support instructions, not a universal retention period; follow the duration shown for your device and region. Recovery is not guaranteed. Samsung Brazil Samsung Gulf
Names, menu paths and screen layouts can vary with the phone model, software and app version. If a label differs, use the closest matching storage or search option in My Files. Samsung Brazil
