Final Fantasy XIV Seasonal Events vs. Moogle Treasure Trove: Rewards and Deadlines Compared

The main difference is how you earn and secure rewards. Moogle Treasure Trove (MTT) is an unscheduled event where you earn event-specific tomestones—and, in some editions, challenge tokens—to exchange for a rotating reward lineup. Seasonal events use the quests and activities described in each event’s own announcement, with rewards and replay rules that vary by event.

For the current MTT, First Hunt for Astronomy, the event period ends October 19, 2026, at 7:59 a.m. PDT. That is not the only deadline: Mogpendium challenge rewards must be claimed by Patch 8.05, while tomestone exchanges are listed through Patch 8.1. These separate cutoffs are why it is worth checking the event notice before deciding what to do first.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

The practical choice is therefore not simply which format has the “better” rewards. A player needs to identify the desired item, confirm how it is earned, calculate whether enough time remains, and then check every relevant cutoff. A seasonal quest may be the fastest route to one named cosmetic, while MTT may be more useful for a player who wants to convert ordinary duty time into several items from a broader lineup.

How the two event formats differ

MTT turns eligible gameplay into a currency you spend on items offered by itinerant moogles. Some editions also have objectives that award a second event token. Seasonal events are built around the particular event’s announced quest or activities; there is no single seasonal-event reward system that applies to every event.

What to compare Moogle Treasure Trove Seasonal event
Schedule Special event with no fixed schedule. Check the current announcement for dates; the event may be suspended without warning. Dates are announced for each event. Check that event’s Lodestone notice.
How rewards are earned Earn irregular tomestones from specified duties and other event activities. Some editions include additional challenge objectives and tokens. Complete the quests or activities specified in the event notice. Requirements vary.
Reward structure Exchange event currency for items in a rotating lineup; a featured item may require an additional token currency. Event-specific rewards. The 2026 FFXV collaboration included a mount and several cosmetic and music items.
Deadlines Check the event end, any Mogpendium claim cutoff, and the tomestone exchange cutoff separately. Use the event’s closing time. Replay is available only when the event’s own rules say so.
Best planning question Can you earn the currency and claim any challenge rewards before their respective cutoffs? Can you finish the required event content before it closes, and does its notice confirm replay later?

This difference affects how predictable the work feels. MTT supplies a visible objective list and a currency balance, so progress can be measured against a listed price. A seasonal event generally asks you to follow its announced quest chain or activity instructions, and the reward is tied to completing that event’s content rather than to a universal currency exchange. Neither format automatically means less effort: the relevant quest length, duty availability, objective limits, and remaining time come from the individual notice.

How Moogle Treasure Trove works

Get the Mogpendium and find eligible activities

  1. Speak to an itinerant moogle to obtain the Mogpendium. It displays the current event objectives.
  2. Choose an activity marked for the event. Eligible routes named for First Hunt for Astronomy include event-marked duties, GATEs, and ocean fishing routes.
  3. For an ocean-fishing tomestone reward, reach at least 2,000 points on the route.
  4. Check the Mogpendium objectives as you progress. Duty Support and adventurer squadrons do not award the event tomestones. If you enter an eligible duty with an unrestricted party, apply Level Sync.

The Mogpendium is the operational checklist for the event. It tells you which objectives are active and helps distinguish ordinary completion from a reward that still needs to be collected manually. A duty that looks similar to an eligible duty is not enough by itself: the activity must be marked for the event, and the applicable participation conditions still apply.

Ocean fishing is a separate named earning route rather than a blanket reward for every trip. The First Hunt notice specifies a minimum of 2,000 points for an ocean-fishing tomestone reward. Players planning around that activity should therefore treat the point threshold as part of the requirement, not as an optional bonus.

Understand the four objective categories

MTT has four objective types: repeatable Standard Objectives, Weekly Objectives, weekly Minimog Challenges, and Ultimog Challenges that can be completed once per event. The objective mix and rewards are event-specific, so do not assume that a later MTT edition will use the same goals or token amounts.

Standard Objectives are the repeatable foundation: eligible play produces irregular tomestones, and the resulting rewards enter your inventory automatically. Weekly Objectives and Minimog Challenges introduce limits or reset-style planning, while an Ultimog Challenge is a one-time opportunity during that event. That distinction matters late in an event. A player who has already used a one-time objective cannot treat it as an endlessly repeatable source, and a weekly objective that has been completed still has to be claimed if the Mogpendium requires a manual collection step.

The current Astronomy edition also demonstrates why there can be two currencies to track. Tomestones pay for items in the itinerant moogle lineup, while Uolon Horn Tokens are attached to the special mount requirement. A tomestone balance alone does not prove that the mount is obtainable; the token requirement must be met as well.

Know when rewards are automatic and when they need claiming

Standard Objective rewards enter your inventory automatically. Weekly and challenge rewards must be claimed from the Mogpendium. Completing a challenge without claiming its reward is not the same as securing it: for First Hunt for Astronomy, the claim period ends with Patch 8.05, even though the event itself ends earlier.

Final Fantasy XIV Online Complete Edition (PS4)
  • Access to all expansion content from Heavensward and Stormblood, unlocking additional jobs, areas, story quests and more ways to explore: flying, swimming and diving
  • A flexible class system that allows players to switch freely between a variety of classes and jobs, including new additions red mage and samurai, and reach the new level cap of level 70
  • All the hallmarks of the FINAL FANTASY franchise, including an engaging storyline, genre-leading graphics, and HD real time cut scenes.
  • Robust gameplay features such as player-managed Free Companies, diverse party finder features to group up with other players with ease, and a variety of fun activities in the Gold Saucer area, all designed to accommodate a dynamic player community.
  • Challenging trials, dungeons and raids for groups of up to 24, and exciting player-vs-player (PvP) content for groups of up to 72 players

This is one of the easiest MTT mistakes to make. A player may finish a weekly objective, see that it is marked complete, and assume the associated token or reward is already safe. The official structure makes a distinction between completion and claiming. Open the Mogpendium, collect every completed weekly or challenge reward, and verify that the reward has been credited before the claim cutoff.

The same caution applies to currency spending. Having tomestones in your inventory is different from having exchanged them for the item you want. The itinerant moogle exchange window is listed separately, through Patch 8.1. Treat the claim deadline and the exchange deadline as two independent tasks on your checklist.

First Hunt for Astronomy: dates, tokens, and the featured mount

Square Enix lists First Hunt for Astronomy as running from September 9, 2026, at 1:00 a.m. through October 19, 2026, at 7:59 a.m. PDT. These are the North American event page’s time-zone labels. The same notice says dates and times may change and the event may be suspended without warning.

The phrase “no set schedule” is important. MTT is a special event rather than an annual event with a dependable calendar date. Even when an individual hunt has a clearly announced window, players should not plan on the next hunt beginning at the same point in a future year. Use the current Lodestone announcement for the live instance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The featured Uolon Horn mount costs 100 Irregular Tomestones of Astronomy I and 10 Uolon Horn Tokens. In this event, completing one of the two weekly Minimog objectives awards one Uolon Horn Token; completing the Ultimog Challenge awards five. Those token values and the mount cost are specific to this event, not a universal MTT price list.

That price creates two separate progress questions. First, can you earn 100 Irregular Tomestones of Astronomy I before the earning window closes? Second, can you complete and claim enough token-bearing objectives? The two weekly Minimog objectives do not simply mean that every weekly task grants a token; the notice states that completing one of the two weekly Minimog objectives awards one token. The Ultimog completion awards five. Check the Mogpendium wording for the active objective rather than extrapolating from an older hunt.

There are three separate milestones to track:

  • Earning: the stated First Hunt event period ends October 19, 2026, at 7:59 a.m. PDT.
  • Claiming weekly and challenge rewards: the Mogpendium claim cutoff is Patch 8.05.
  • Exchanging tomestones: itinerant-moogle exchanges are listed through Patch 8.1.

The patch cutoffs are later than the event’s stated end, but they are not interchangeable: the claim cutoff applies to unclaimed weekly or challenge rewards, while the exchange cutoff applies to spending tomestones. The official notice gives the cutoffs by patch rather than a separate clock time here, so check the live notice for the applicable patch timing.

Do not silently convert the displayed PDT times to another region and then treat the converted value as the official deadline. The North American notice labels its times PDT. If you play in another region, consult the appropriate official listing and account for maintenance or any announcement changing the schedule.

What carries into the Second Hunt

Square Enix says the Uolon Horn and its tokens will also appear in the later Second Hunt for Astronomy, and that First Hunt tokens may still be redeemed during the Second Hunt. This carryover gives the featured mount different timing from items that are available only in the current lineup. The two installments will have different item lineups and exchange tomestones, however, so do not assume that every First Hunt item or currency will carry forward.

In practical terms, the carryover reduces the risk of treating the First Hunt’s closing date as the final possible moment for every part of the Uolon Horn purchase. It does not remove the need to read the current notice. The statement is specific to the horn and its tokens; it is not a promise that all First Hunt rewards, all unspent currencies, or all future MTT editions will work the same way.

How seasonal events work—and what can vary

For a seasonal event, use its Lodestone announcement to identify the event dates, quest or activity requirements, reward list, and any replay option. A seasonal-event label does not by itself guarantee that the event runs every year on fixed dates, that its rewards return, or that its quests can be replayed later.

Seasonal events also differ from MTT in how a player evaluates unfinished progress. MTT gives a numerical currency target, such as 100 tomestones for the Uolon Horn, whereas a seasonal event may require completion of a named quest sequence before the closing time. The notice is the authority for whether there are prerequisites, how the reward is delivered, and whether previously completed content can be revisited.

Do not infer a reward list from the event’s name or from a previous year. Even a familiar seasonal title can have a different notice, different dates, or a different set of items. Likewise, the existence of a replay feature for one collaboration does not establish a general replay policy for all seasonal content.

A Nocturne for Heroes: a recent example

The 2026 FFXV collaboration event A Nocturne for Heroes ran from September 24 at 1:00 a.m. through October 13, 2026, at 7:59 a.m. PDT. Its announcement listed the Regalia Type-G four-seater mount, the Lucian Prince costume set, Modern Aesthetics – Lucian Locks, orchestrion rolls, and other rewards. Players who had completed the event quests before could replay them using the seasonal event replay feature.

Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood - PlayStation 4
  • Customer must have Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn to play Stormblood
  • Increased level cap up to level 70
  • New Jobs – Red Mage and Samurai
  • New Beast Tribe and Primal
  • New Alliance Raid

This reward set illustrates the breadth a seasonal collaboration can offer in one announcement: a mount, a full costume set, a hairstyle, and music items. It should still be read as an event-specific package, not as a template for every seasonal event. A player deciding between this content and MTT would compare the named reward they want with the time required to complete the collaboration quests, rather than assuming that all seasonal rewards are more exclusive or more valuable.

The replay wording also has a narrow meaning. It confirms that players who had already completed the event quests could replay them through the seasonal event replay feature. It does not say that every player could newly earn every reward after the closing time, nor does it guarantee that another event will retain the same feature.

This example shows why checking the individual notice matters: it confirms both a specific reward lineup and replay for that event. It does not establish that other seasonal events offer the same types of items or allow replay. As of October 13, 2026, that event’s announced closing time had arrived; its rewards should not be treated as still earnable unless a current official notice says otherwise.

What is confirmed for All Saints’ Wake

On October 13, 2026, the Lodestone news listing announced that All Saints’ Wake begins October 15. The linked event details were unavailable during maintenance, so its 2026 end date, requirements, and reward list were not confirmed in the available announcement details. Check the official event page for those particulars rather than inferring them from a prior year or from another seasonal event.

This is a useful deadline lesson in itself. A headline that confirms a start date is not a complete event specification. Until the details page is available, do not publish or plan around an assumed closing time, quest chain, mount, outfit, hairstyle, or replay rule. Once the official page is accessible, verify the time zone, the final end time, and the exact method for receiving each reward.

Common planning mistakes and how to avoid them

  • Assuming MTT is annual: Square Enix describes it as a special event with no set schedule. Treat every hunt as a separately announced window.
  • Using the event end as every deadline: First Hunt for Astronomy has a stated October 19, 2026, 7:59 a.m. PDT event end, a Patch 8.05 Mogpendium claim cutoff, and a Patch 8.1 exchange cutoff.
  • Forgetting to claim: Standard Objective rewards are automatic, but weekly and challenge rewards must be collected in the Mogpendium.
  • Entering the wrong duty format: Duty Support and adventurer squadrons do not award the event tomestones. An unrestricted party must use Level Sync.
  • Missing the ocean-fishing threshold: The named reward requires at least 2,000 points on the route.
  • Counting only tomestones for the mount: The Uolon Horn requires both 100 Irregular Tomestones of Astronomy I and 10 Uolon Horn Tokens.
  • Generalizing from one seasonal event: A Nocturne for Heroes had replayable completed quests, but replay is not promised for every seasonal event.
  • Relying on an old notice: Dates, lineups, and requirements can differ between events and may change. Recheck the current Lodestone page.

Which event should you prioritize before it expires?

Prioritize based on what you can still earn or claim, not on a general assumption that one format always has better rewards. Use these checks before committing your play time:

  • If you want an MTT item: compare its listed tomestone cost with your current balance and the time left to earn currency. For a special item, check whether it also needs challenge tokens.
  • If you have finished MTT challenges: claim weekly and challenge rewards in the Mogpendium by the stated claim cutoff. Do not confuse completion with claiming.
  • If you already have MTT tomestones: check the itinerant-moogle exchange deadline separately from the event’s earning deadline.
  • If a seasonal event is open: read its own notice for quest steps, closing time, and rewards. When a limited-time reward is your goal, complete the required event content before the announced end rather than assuming it will return.
  • If a seasonal event has closed: look for an explicit replay or return statement. The FFXV event’s replay feature is a confirmed example, not a standing promise for other events.

A sensible order is to secure anything with the earliest or least flexible requirement first. For MTT, that can mean claiming completed Mogpendium objectives before worrying about a later exchange, especially if the reward includes a special token. For a seasonal event, it usually means completing the announced quest chain while the event is open, then checking whether the notice provides a replay path.

For First Hunt for Astronomy, a player seeking the Uolon Horn should track both required currencies and the challenge-token claim process. Someone mainly seeking a seasonal reward should instead follow that event’s own requirements and deadline. The right choice depends on the reward you want and which applicable deadline comes first.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

When does First Hunt for Astronomy end?

The North American Lodestone notice lists September 9, 2026, at 1:00 a.m. through October 19, 2026, at 7:59 a.m. PDT. Square Enix notes that dates and times may change and that the event can be suspended without warning.

Can I spend MTT tomestones after the event ends?

The notice lists itinerant-moogle exchanges through Patch 8.1, which is separate from the October 19 event end. Check the live notice for the applicable patch timing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How do I receive weekly or challenge rewards?

Claim them in the Mogpendium. Standard Objective rewards are automatic, but weekly and challenge rewards require a manual claim, with claims listed through Patch 8.05 for First Hunt for Astronomy.

What does the Uolon Horn cost?

The featured mount costs 100 Irregular Tomestones of Astronomy I plus 10 Uolon Horn Tokens. One weekly Minimog completion awards one token, and the Ultimog Challenge awards five in this event.

Do Duty Support and adventurer squadrons give MTT tomestones?

No. The event rules exclude Duty Support and adventurer squadrons. Unrestricted parties must apply Level Sync for eligible duties.

Can ocean fishing award an event tomestone?

Yes. The First Hunt notice names ocean fishing routes and specifies at least 2,000 points for an ocean-fishing tomestone reward.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will the Uolon Horn remain available in the next hunt?

Square Enix says the horn and its tokens will also appear in the later Second Hunt for Astronomy, and First Hunt tokens may still be redeemed there. Other First Hunt items are not automatically covered by that statement.

Can I replay every seasonal event after it closes?

No universal rule is stated. A Nocturne for Heroes confirmed replay for previously completed quests, but each seasonal event’s notice must be checked separately.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Moogle Treasure Trove is a currency-and-objective event with no fixed recurring schedule, while seasonal events are individually announced quest or activity events. For First Hunt for Astronomy, track the October 19, 2026, 7:59 a.m. PDT earning end, the Patch 8.05 Mogpendium claim cutoff, and the Patch 8.1 exchange cutoff as separate milestones. Seasonal rewards and replay options must be verified in the relevant event notice; the A Nocturne for Heroes example cannot be generalized to every event.
