Final Fantasy VII Revelation is intended to shift between open-world exploration and story-led sequences, rather than stay entirely open or linear. Director Naoki Hamaguchi said the contrasting media and Tokyo Game Show demos were designed to reveal that range: one emphasized a large world and its activities, while the other focused on a more linear stretch of story.
Why were the two demos so different?
In an interview with RPG Site published on 1 October 2026, director Naoki Hamaguchi said the contrast was deliberate. The media demo presented a broad space with many activities and possible directions; the Tokyo Game Show demo showed a more guided, story-focused segment. They were different windows into the game, not evidence that the full experience belongs exclusively to either format.
“We really wanted it this way; to show the difference in the scale between Rebirth and Revelation,” Hamaguchi said. The interviewer described the contrast as difficult to communicate because one demo felt open-ended while the other was linear. Hamaguchi also said the team had anticipated that some players might wonder whether the game was “too big.”
How will exploration and story fit together?
Hamaguchi described a rhythm of story sequences that move players through the setting, followed by periods of greater freedom to explore—an approach he broadly compared with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The two demo formats therefore point to different parts of an intended back-and-forth, rather than competing descriptions of the whole game.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The interview does not establish the final game’s exact pacing, total map size, number of activities, or how often it shifts between these modes. The demos are examples of what the developers chose to show, not a complete map of the finished game’s structure.
What does opening multiple regions at once mean?
Hamaguchi said Revelation will let multiple regions open up around the same time, with players encouraged to move among them instead of completing one region before unlocking the next. He contrasted that plan with a more sequential approach to regional access.

That design can also let a quest travel across the world. As an example, Hamaguchi compared Revelation with Rebirth: a quest in Rebirth’s Grasslands can conclude there, while a Revelation quest may begin in one region and lead into another. The interview does not give a quest count or specify how frequently that cross-region structure will occur.
How will the game signal that an activity is for later?
The interview describes high-difficulty activities and party-level barriers as ways to tell players that a challenge is not yet suitable and that they may want to return later. This is a progression cue, not a measure of how many activities will be gated or how strict those gates will be.

What release details did the interview report?
RPG Site’s closing text reports a planned launch on 8 April 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. Treat that date and platform list as the plan reported by the article on 1 October 2026, not as independently verified current store listings.
Hamaguchi said the studio has separate teams for gameplay and optimization. The interview provides no platform-specific frame rates, resolutions, PC requirements, or performance test results, so the team structure should not be read as a performance guarantee. It also does not establish a price, physical edition, retail SKU, or accessory requirement.
