Final Fantasy VII Revelation is the announced third and final game in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake project. It is scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The official title is FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION—not simply “Final Fantasy Revelation.”
What is Final Fantasy VII Revelation?
Revelation concludes the three-game project reimagining the 1997 Final Fantasy VII. Square Enix describes it as the final entry in the remake series. Its June 2026 announcement used the broader “Spring 2027” window; official September coverage later set the release date to April 8, 2027. The publisher says the original Final Fantasy VII had sold 15.7 million units worldwide at the time of its 2026 announcement. That is a historical figure reported by Square Enix, not a current lifetime-sales update. When does it release, and which platforms are confirmed?
Square Enix and PlayStation list April 8, 2027, for the PS5 launch, and Square Enix lists the same date for the other announced platforms. The PC release is available through multiple named stores:

No platform-specific performance comparison, system requirements or file sizes are established in those announcements, so there is not enough confirmed information to recommend one version on technical grounds.
What is the story about?
The announced conflict follows Cloud Strife and his companions as they try to stop Sephiroth and the threat of Meteor. The group travels aboard the Highwind in a world facing annihilation, with Sephiroth nearing godhood, according to the game’s official Steam news post. Square Enix describes the world as the largest in the series and says players will be able to explore freely aboard the airship. These are publisher descriptions of the planned game, not details confirmed through a completed playthrough.

What gameplay has Square Enix announced?
Official materials describe evolved battles combining action with command selection. The August 26 trailer announcement highlights the planet’s Weapons, including Emerald Weapon emerging from the sea, and introduces Typhon as a summon and Piko as a Chocobo partner. Weapons will include story encounters and optional content
In an October 2, 2026 interview with PC Gamer, director Naoki Hamaguchi said some Weapons appear in the main story while others are side content. He described unique mechanics and interactive elements for these encounters, with some using minigames and strategic play. PC Gamer’s interview

Do you need to play the earlier remake games first?
Square Enix recommends that newcomers play FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE and FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH to catch up. That is the publisher’s suggested route, not confirmation that either game is required to play or understand Revelation. Optional streamlined progression in the earlier games
For players concerned about the time or difficulty involved, Square Enix says both recommended games include Streamlined Progression options. The listed options include always-full HP and MP, a full ATB gauge and easier weapon-ability acquisition. What the save-data bonuses do
Save data from REMAKE INTERGRADE unlocks Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia, while save data from REBIRTH unlocks Phoenix Summon Materia. Will there be a physical copy?
Yes. Square Enix’s September 3, 2026 press release says physical and digital versions are planned.
