There is no verified public installation package or step-by-step setup guide for the Final Fantasy VII Remake two-player co-op mod yet. As of October 16, 2026, its creator described it as a beta that still needed bug fixes and polishing before a public release. The project was built for the Steam edition; Epic Games Store support was described only as a future possibility. Do not install unrelated DLL or INI instructions while waiting for the creator’s release documentation.

What you can install today

At the latest checked date, no verified public download for this specific co-op project had been identified. The creator said he hoped to publish it through Nexus Mods after smoothing out bugs. That means there is no trustworthy file, installer, configuration utility, load order, or command that can be recommended as the mod’s current installation method.

The practical answer to “How do I install it?” is therefore: you cannot follow a confirmed public procedure yet. Any page offering a supposedly official package should be treated cautiously unless it can be tied directly to the creator’s own announcement and matches the eventual release documentation.

Availability is volatile. Before downloading anything, check the creator’s latest update and the Final Fantasy VII Remake section of Nexus Mods on the day you intend to play. A future listing would be a distribution location, not evidence that every older repost or video description is safe or current.

Which PC version is supported?

PC edition Current status What that means
Steam Stated development target The creator’s initial post says the mod was built for the Steam version. This is the only platform target established in the available statements.
Epic Games Store Conditional and unconfirmed Epic support was described as something that might be added if development went to plan. It should not be treated as working compatibility.

Do not assume that a mod working with one PC edition will work with the other. The executable, patch history, file layout, and launcher behavior can differ even when the game content is similar. Until release notes name a supported edition and build, installing on Epic is an experiment rather than a documented setup.

No supported game version number has been published for the co-op project. If the eventual download lists a Steam build, DLC requirement, language limitation, or other edition constraint, follow that exact statement instead of relying on a video recorded against an earlier patch.

What the beta reportedly changes

The creator has described a local co-op design rather than an online service. The following controls were mentioned as beta-stage features, so they may change, move, or disappear before public release.

Beta-stage feature Reported behavior Qualification
ATB charging Players can adjust how quickly the Active Time Battle gauge charges. This was a creator description of the beta, not a guaranteed final menu label or range.
Character hit points Players can raise hit-point values. No numeric limits, presets, or save behavior have been published.
Pressure and stagger Players can raise pressure/stagger amounts. No exact formula or configuration location has been documented publicly.
Menu ownership The menus were said to remain technically tied to player one. This may affect who changes settings during a session; the final interface is unknown.

These descriptions suggest balance controls intended to make two-character play practical, but they do not establish how the options are edited. There is no verified information about a configuration file, in-game menu path, hotkey, controller shortcut, or whether values apply globally or only to a current session.

What is not documented yet

A working co-op mod normally needs more than a download link. For this project, the following setup facts remain unpublished or unverified:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • the official download page and file name;
  • the exact Steam game build or patch it supports;
  • whether a particular edition, language, or DLC combination is required;
  • dependencies, loaders, runtime packages, or other supporting files;
  • the installation directory and whether files must be copied, injected, or launched separately;
  • the order in which the mod and any dependencies must load;
  • how two controllers or keyboard-and-controller combinations are assigned;
  • whether player two joins at a title screen, in a save, or after a specific story event;
  • where ATB, hit-point, pressure, and stagger settings are changed;
  • how settings are saved and restored;
  • supported graphics, frame-rate, or accessibility configurations;
  • error messages, logs, known conflicts, and rollback instructions; and
  • whether any online or networked mode exists.

Because those details are missing, a precise command sequence would be guesswork. The project has been described as local co-op; no sourced statement establishes online multiplayer, remote play, or a server component.

Do not substitute FFVIIHook instructions

FFVIIHook is a separate utility mod. Its Nexus Mods page tells users to place xinput1_3.dll beside ff7remake_.exe and discusses loading Unreal Engine 4 INI files from the user configuration folder. Those directions belong to FFVIIHook, not to the newly discussed two-player co-op project.

The existence of a catalog entry for FFVIIHook does not prove that the co-op mod uses it as a dependency. The available statements do not identify FFVIIHook, its DLL, or its INI arrangement as part of the co-op installation. Copying those files because they appear in an unrelated tutorial can cause launch failures, version conflicts, or a configuration that has no effect.

Until the co-op creator names a dependency, install only what the creator’s own release notes require. Do not merge instructions from several mods into one folder and assume that a successful launch means co-op is enabled.

How to prepare for a legitimate release

The following is a release-day verification workflow, not a set of currently valid installation commands. It is designed to prevent the most common mistake in an unreleased project: applying instructions written for another build or another mod.

  1. Confirm the source. Start from the creator’s current announcement and follow its download link. Prefer the page identified by that announcement over mirrors, reuploads, shortened links, or files shared without version information.
  2. Read the compatibility line. Record the supported launcher, game edition, executable build, DLC requirements, and any operating-system limitation before downloading. If the release names Steam only, do not infer Epic support.
  3. Record the package version. Note the release date, archive name, checksum if supplied, and dependency versions. Keep this information with your installation so a later update can be compared accurately.
  4. Protect your existing installation. Back up save data and make a note of the original game files before changing them. Use the game launcher’s file-verification or repair function only as the release notes direct; verification can remove modded files.
  5. Follow the stated install destination. Copy or extract files only to the path named by the co-op documentation. Do not use FFVIIHook’s DLL location or UE4 INI folder as a substitute unless the co-op release explicitly requires the same files.
  6. Install dependencies in the stated order. If the package lists a loader, runtime, or prerequisite, use the versions named by the creator. A dependency that is merely popular in the wider modding community is not automatically required here.
  7. Launch a clean test first. Start the game with the release’s recommended launcher or command and verify that the normal single-player title screen still opens. This separates a basic installation problem from a co-op input problem.
  8. Connect the second input device. Use the controller-assignment procedure supplied with the release. If no procedure is provided, do not assume that Windows detecting a controller means the mod has assigned it to player two.
  9. Apply balance settings deliberately. Change one option at a time, record the original value, and test whether the change persists after restarting. Beta descriptions do not establish the final option names or safe ranges.
  10. Keep a rollback path. Save the archive and your notes. If the game stops launching, remove only the files named in the release’s uninstall instructions or restore the backed-up originals rather than deleting unrelated mod files.

What to check in the eventual release notes

Release-note question Why it matters to setup Evidence you should see
Which launcher and build? Steam and Epic installations may not use identical executables or patch layouts. A named launcher and a specific supported build or patch range.
Where is the official file? Unverified mirrors can be outdated or modified. A creator-linked download page, release version, and date.
What are the dependencies? Missing loaders or runtimes can prevent startup. A complete dependency list with versions and install order.
How are controllers assigned? Local co-op requires the game to distinguish player one from player two. Explicit controller, keyboard, or mixed-input instructions.
Where are settings stored? ATB, HP, pressure, and stagger controls cannot be configured reliably without a documented path. An in-game menu path or a named configuration file and field format.
What are the limitations? Story scenes, menus, cutscenes, loading transitions, and save behavior may need special handling. A known-issues list and a statement of whether online play is supported.
How is it removed? Modded files can interfere with updates or file verification. Uninstall, update, and rollback steps that identify the affected files.

If a release page omits these answers, wait for clarification rather than filling the gaps with instructions from another Final Fantasy VII Remake mod.

Troubleshooting once documentation exists

When the creator publishes a supported package, use the release’s own error messages and known-issues list first. The branches below help identify which category of problem you are seeing without pretending that a fix has already been established.

The game will not launch

  • Confirm that the launcher and game build match the release notes.
  • Check that every dependency is present and the required version is installed.
  • Remove files from unrelated utilities, especially DLLs copied from another mod tutorial.
  • Restore the original files or use the documented rollback process, then test the unmodified game before reinstalling.

The game launches but player two is missing

  • Verify that the second controller is visible to the operating system before starting the game.
  • Follow the release’s assignment order exactly; some projects may bind devices only during startup or at a particular menu.
  • Test one controller at a time to determine whether the problem is device detection or mod activation.
  • Check whether the release supports a mixed keyboard-and-controller setup; do not infer it from the local co-op description alone.

Balance changes do not apply

  • Confirm that the setting was changed in the documented menu or file, not in an unrelated UE4 configuration.
  • Apply one value, save or restart as instructed, and test again.
  • Check whether the option belongs to player one’s menu, since the beta description said the menus were technically tied to player one.
  • Compare your setting names and value ranges with the release version rather than with a beta video.

A patch breaks the mod

  • Stop launching the modded game until the creator confirms compatibility with the new build.
  • Record the game version and mod version before reporting the problem.
  • Use the creator’s update or rollback instructions; do not overwrite files with a package made for a different patch.

Steam versus Epic: the decision at release

Steam is the sensible choice for anyone waiting specifically for this project because it is the only edition the creator has identified as the build target. Epic should be considered supported only if a later release note explicitly says so and provides edition-specific instructions. A general statement that the game runs on PC is not enough to establish launcher compatibility.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you own both editions, keep testing isolated. Do not copy a Steam installation into an Epic directory or share mod files between them unless the creator documents that arrangement. Separate folders make it easier to remove the mod, verify files, and report an exact reproduction if a problem appears.

Bottom line for readers waiting to play

The two-player project is a beta local-co-op experiment, not a publicly documented PC mod installation at the October 16, 2026 update. Steam is the reported target; Epic support remains unconfirmed. The creator has mentioned adjustable ATB speed, hit points, and pressure/stagger values, with menus still technically tied to player one, but none of those beta notes supplies a final install path. Wait for the creator’s release package and its own instructions, and keep FFVIIHook’s separate DLL and INI guidance out of the co-op setup unless the future documentation explicitly connects them.
