Choose your platform first, then decide whether the base game is enough or whether the digital extras or a collector package are worth paying for. On PC, Square Enix ties each published specification tier to a specific output target: Minimum is 1080p at 30 FPS on Low, Recommended is 1080p at 60 FPS on Medium, and Ultra is 2160p at 60 FPS on High. Every published PC tier lists 16 GB of RAM and 155 GB of SSD storage. These are the publisher’s targets, not independent performance results.
Which edition is worth buying
Square Enix’s English overview and its Japanese product page both list the game’s edition types, including Deluxe, Collector’s, Digital Deluxe, and a Digital Deluxe upgrade option. Which of these you can actually buy depends on platform and storefront, so the edition list is not a promise that every version is sold everywhere. The table below separates what Square Enix documents from what you need to check yourself.

| Option | What Square Enix documents | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Standard (base game) | Available on the listed platforms. The available physical and download formats vary by platform and storefront. | Readers who want the game and do not need the extras. Confirm the local format and current price before buying. |
| Digital Deluxe | Includes a digital art book and a digital mini-soundtrack, viewed through the Square Enix Digital Content Viewer. | Readers who value those two digital extras enough to pay the difference over the base game. |
| Digital Deluxe upgrade and Digital Deluxe Twin Pack | Square Enix’s FAQ says both include the same digital art book and mini-soundtrack. | Check any ownership requirement and the exact contents shown by your storefront before purchase. |
| Deluxe and Collector’s | Listed as edition types on the Japanese product page. An earlier official launch announcement described the PS5 Collector’s Edition as including a detailed Sephiroth figure, Deluxe contents, and digital items. | Collectors. Treat the figure and contents as the earlier PS5 description. Confirm the current package and stock in your region. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 boxed copy | Square Enix labels the physical product a key card. The game downloads on first play, and the product page specifies an internet connection and at least 105 GB of free space. | Switch 2 owners who want a physical product. Confirm the card and storage details for your region. |
Square Enix’s sources do not establish a current, universal price comparison across editions. Prices vary by market and change over time, so check your local storefront on the day you buy. Launch-era or Japanese prices should not be treated as applying elsewhere.

PC system requirements
Square Enix’s PC support page publishes the Minimum and Recommended specifications. The English product overview adds the Ultra tier. Each tier is defined by a resolution, frame-rate target, and settings preset, which is why the hardware rises between tiers.

Graphics and storage requirements
- Shader Model: a graphics card supporting Shader Model 6.6 or later is required.
- DirectX: the operating system must support DirectX 12 Ultimate. The support page also lists DirectX 12.
- GPU memory for 4K: Square Enix recommends 12 GB or more of GPU memory for a 4K monitor on the Minimum and Recommended tiers, and 16 GB or more for the Ultra 4K tier.
- Storage: an SSD is required. The published tiers all list 155 GB.
These are Square Enix’s stated requirements. Its listings do not provide independent frame-rate measurements, so treat the tiers as the settings and output the publisher expects, not as a guaranteed result on any specific PC.
PC features and input
- DLSS: Square Enix says DLSS can raise frame rates and upscale the resolution.
- Variable refresh rate: supported.
- Frame rate: up to 120 FPS is supported on high-spec PC environments. This is a ceiling for capable hardware, not a guaranteed rate.
- Input: DualSense controller and keyboard and mouse are both supported, with customizable controls. A controller is not listed as a requirement.
Do you need Remake first?
No. Square Enix’s English FAQ describes the game this way: “FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH is a standalone game that welcomes fans and newcomers alike.” The same FAQ notes that a story recap video for FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE is available in the in-game menu. The statement is an official Square Enix document rather than a quote from a named person.
