Which Final Fantasy game is shutting down?
It is FINAL FANTASY VII EVER CRISIS, the free-to-play RPG available for iOS, Android and Steam. Square Enix announced that service for both the Japanese and global versions will end at the same time. The game launched on mobile on September 7, 2023, and on Steam on December 6, 2023, according to the official end-of-service notice.

The FINAL FANTASY Portal App is a separate closure. Square Enix says its service ends on October 29, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. PDT, while the Portal Site remains available. That date is not the EVER CRISIS shutdown date; see the Portal App notice.

The announced service end is October 6, 2026, at 11:00 p.m. PDT. Keep the stated timezone in mind when planning around the deadline. “In 48 hours” is a relative headline, not a fixed date: whether it is accurate depends on when it is read. Why is EVER CRISIS ending?
Producer Shoichi Ichikawa’s July 8, 2026 letter says the team could not confidently maintain the service level expected of a game bearing the FINAL FANTASY VII name. He pointed to the challenge of balancing production costs with demand for character weapons and gear, while maintaining equipment visuals and gameplay balance that supports varied parties. This is Square Enix’s stated explanation, not a published financial accounting or player-count analysis. Read the producer letter and service notice for the company’s full announcement.
The letter also says the team considered the decision carefully. Square Enix has not provided a quantified financial result or player-count figure in the cited notices, so claims that a particular metric caused the closure are not established there.

Can I use my Red Crystals before shutdown?
Red Crystal sales ended on July 7, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. PDT. Square Enix says existing Red Crystals can be used until service ends on October 6. Its notice states that refunds for unused paid Red Crystals are available only to Taiwan residents; players in other regions should not assume they qualify. The company said further refund details would be provided in-game and on the official site. Check the official notice for current instructions.

Events and final story content
The July announcements said events would be released and updated through the end of service. Ichikawa’s letter planned the final FINAL FANTASY VII saga chapter for September 6, 2026, PDT, along with returning past content and events during the final months. Those were announced plans; check Square Enix’s latest official updates for confirmation of any specific release or event.

Account information
Square Enix says account information will be deleted after procedures associated with the end of service are complete. Its notice does not give an exact deletion date.
Offline play and delisting
The cited closure notice does not promise an offline mode and does not specify when, or whether, the game will be delisted from the App Store, Google Play or Steam. Whether it remains downloadable or playable after service ends is therefore unresolved in that notice; do not treat continued access as guaranteed.
