Naoki Hamaguchi says he has heard fans asking for a full-disc version of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, but the game’s physical edition is planned as a “key disc”: it contains the opening portion, while the rest must be downloaded. Hamaguchi says product formats and SKUs are the publishing team’s responsibility, and that fitting the full game onto a disc configuration like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s would have meant compromising fidelity and quality.
What the physical edition includes
The announced physical release is not a complete copy of the game stored on the disc. In an interview with Radio Times on October 1, 2026, Hamaguchi described it as a “key disc” containing the opening, after which the game will ask players to download the rest.

The interviews do not specify the download size, whether all remaining data must be installed before play, or what parts of the game can be accessed offline. A disc in the box should therefore not be taken as evidence that the complete game can be installed or played without an internet connection.

Hamaguchi said the team considered using the same disc configuration as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. He told IGN, in an interview republished by MMO.Net on September 10, 2026, that this would have required compromises to the game’s fidelity and quality. The development team did not want to make those compromises.

That is the team’s stated rationale; the interviews do not provide technical specifications comparing disc capacity, compression, or installation options. Hamaguchi has also said he values physical media and used his position to argue for a physical release, while recognizing that some players may object to a disc that depends on a download.
Why the director cannot decide the product format
Hamaguchi says his role is focused on the game’s content and player experience, while decisions about product lineups, SKUs, and how editions go on sale belong to the publishing team. He described his authority over those decisions as limited.

He acknowledged seeing social-media posts asking, “Give us a full disc version!” Those comments show that the request has reached him, but they are not a measure of how many players want that format. The interviews do not confirm that a full-disc edition or later revision is planned.
How large is the game expected to be?
At Tokyo Game Show 2026, Hamaguchi told Video Games Chronicle that the game would “probably” be around 200 GB, adding that details were still being worked out. This is a provisional estimate, not a final download-size specification, and it does not establish how much data will be on the physical disc.

Reported release date and platforms
Radio Times reported an April 8, 2027 release date for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Treat that as a reported plan rather than a guarantee: release schedules and platform details can change, and the available interviews do not establish whether physical-disc configurations will be identical across regions or editions.
