Treat that information as a prompt for investigation, not proof that a plugin is safe. Review the package’s source and advisories, then verify that your own application authorizes and scopes its functionality correctly.
What Plumb shows for a Filament plugin
Filament’s plugin directory displays Plumb scores in search and on plugin detail pages. The detail page’s “Package health” section groups findings into security, maintenance, and ecosystem categories, then breaks them down into 15 checks. Each check is marked as passed, failed, or skipped, and can be opened for details and guidance. A check involving GitHub Actions references pinned to a commit SHA is one example.

The category totals and overall score can help you spot areas to investigate, but the published information does not establish the score weights, a complete scoring formula, or independent validation that a particular score predicts security. Scores and scan dates can also change. Check the current plugin page and inspect the underlying results rather than treating a score as a lasting endorsement.
How to evaluate a score before installing
Compare plugins across the same dimensions instead of choosing by the overall score alone:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Security: Read the individual security checks and look for relevant open security advisories.
- Maintenance: Check whether dependency updates are being handled. Long-unanswered Dependabot pull requests can be a warning sign.
- Ecosystem and compatibility: Consider the ecosystem checks alongside whether the package fits your application and its dependencies.
- Specific check results: Investigate failed, skipped, or outdated checks. A skipped check is not the same as a passing one.
- Source and permissions: Review what the plugin adds and what access or behavior it introduces. Filament’s Alex Six writes that “reviewing the code yourself will forever be the best way to ensure that you aren’t including code that you don’t know about.”
- Application fit: Assess authorization and data access in the context of your own deployment; a package scan cannot establish that your application is correctly configured.
Filament describes reviewing code as the best way to know what a package adds. The directory also identifies community plugins as third-party: outside the filament/ namespace, Filament says it does not review, endorse, or vet their security. One community listing, Chiiya Access Control, likewise advises users to review its source and install at their own risk. These are reasons to assess a plugin yourself, not evidence that any specific plugin is unsafe.
What a package score cannot secure in your application
A package-health score describes checks on a package; it does not verify the security of every way you use that package. Filament’s security guidance says standard resource CRUD operations are checked against Laravel model policies. Custom actions, pages, Livewire components, API endpoints, and other business logic still require authorization implemented by the application developer.

After choosing a plugin, check that each custom operation is authorized for the right user and that queries and other data access are scoped appropriately. A passing package check cannot confirm those application-specific controls.

Getting a Plumb score for a package
- Public plugin listed in Filament’s directory: It is automatically scanned.
- Private, paid plugin listed in the directory: Its maintainer must link a GitHub account with Plumb.
- PHP or Laravel package outside Filament’s ecosystem: Search for it on Plumb. If it has not been scanned, Filament’s article directs maintainers to Plumb’s homepage request form.
Filament reported that Plumb scored almost 170,000 Packagist packages in its September 28, 2026 article, describing that as the count “at the time of writing.” That is a dated figure, not a current inventory count.
