If you want the lighter headphone and a model FiiO says is easy to drive from a USB dongle, the FiiO FT15 is the more practical starting point. Choose the Audeze LCD-2 if its maker’s warm, rich sound description appeals to you and your source can meet Audeze’s power guidance. Neither specification sheet proves which one sounds better to you: fit, source, price and personal preference should decide.
FiiO FT15 vs. Audeze LCD-2 at a glance
Both are wired, open-back planar magnetic over-ear headphones. Their published specifications point to different practical trade-offs, but the figures come from the manufacturers and should not be mistaken for a controlled head-to-head test.

#1 Best Overall
- 800nm ULTRA-THIN DIAPHRAGM — ENGINEERED FOR HIGH RESOLUTION The FT15 uses an ultra-thin 800nm planar magnetic diaphragm, 86.7% thinner than the previous-generation 6μm design. The extremely low diaphragm mass enables fast response, precise transient reproduction, and fine detail retrieval, bringing greater clarity and realism to vocals, instruments, and complex recordings.
- FULL-SURFACE DIAMOND COATING — FAST, STABLE & LOW DISTORTION FIIO's proprietary multi-layer coating technology applies a full-surface diamond coating to the diaphragm. With diamond's exceptional rigidity and stability, the diaphragm better controls high-frequency breakup and unwanted vibration, helping deliver faster response, improved acoustic stability, and a smooth, low-distortion sound.
- 101mm LARGE PLANAR DRIVER — POWERFUL DYNAMICS & DEEP BASS The massive 101mm planar magnetic driver features an effective vibrating area of 6443.5mm², 35% larger than the previous-generation FT15 design. The increased vibrating area provides abundant energy reserve for powerful dynamics, rich low frequencies, and a spacious presentation that excels with large-scale classical, orchestral, rock, and cinematic music.
- 95dB/mW HIGH SENSITIVITY — EASIER TO DRIVE A specially engineered dual-sided heterogeneous magnet structure and optimized magnetic-field distribution keep the voice coil within a strong magnetic field region, achieving 95dB/mW sensitivity and strong driving efficiency. FT15 can be paired with portable players, DAC dongles, and desktop headphone amplifiers for flexible HiFi listening.
- 425g LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN & PREMIUM MATERIALS The FT15 combines optimized materials and structural design to keep the total weight at approximately 425g, reducing head pressure during extended listening. North American FAS-grade black walnut ear cups add natural wood grain and a premium handcrafted feel, while the included 6N OCC single-crystal copper cable receives more than 100 hours of -192°C cryogenic treatment.
Weight alone does not determine comfort. Headband fit, clamp force, pad shape and your own sensitivity affect how either model feels, and the available product information does not establish how comfortable either will be in a long session. If possible, try them on or buy from a seller with a return policy that suits you.
Is the FT15 easier to drive than the LCD-2?
FiiO markets the FT15 as easy to drive, including from a USB dongle. Audeze, by contrast, lists minimum power above 100 mW and recommends above 250 mW for the LCD-2. That makes the FT15 the clearer candidate if you want to use a modest portable source without checking a higher power requirement—but you should still consider your source’s output and the listening level you want.

Do not infer amplifier needs from impedance alone. FiiO lists the FT15 at 24 ohms and 95 dB/mW sensitivity; Audeze lists the LCD-2 at 70 ohms and 101 dB/1mW sensitivity. Because the sensitivity formats are not presented as a shared test, those numbers do not provide a clean direct comparison of loudness or required power. Check your device’s output capability rather than assuming that any particular phone, dongle or amplifier will be sufficient.
How do their sound descriptions compare?
FiiO describes the FT15 as warm and natural. Audeze characterizes the LCD-2 as warm and rich, with deep, punchy bass. These are each company’s descriptions, not independent findings that one headphone has a particular advantage or will suit every listener.

- Large 90mm planar magnetic driver | 6μm ultra-thin diaphragm - Only 1/10 of the hair’s thickness
- Micron-level aluminium-silver alloy coil, Ideal combination of acoustics and easiness of power
- Open-backed design, A more natural sound, a more musical sound | Lightweight magnesium alloy construction, Reduced weight, better comfort
- 20 neodymium magnets per driver, Balanced force, for precise sound
- High sensitivity and easy to power: 110dB/1Vrms@1kHz | 96dB/mW@1kHz
There is independent measurement commentary on the LCD-2, but not a comparable FT15 measurement or a direct FT15-versus-LCD-2 listening test in the available sources. Headphones.com reports measuring an LCD-2 sample with a GRAS 43AG standardized rig and comparing its response with a combined Harman target; the reviewer discusses deep bass extension and an upper-midrange shortfall relative to that target. That analysis describes one sample and method. It does not establish universal preference or how the FT15 compares.
If tonal balance is your deciding factor, audition both if you can. Otherwise, use a return policy that lets you judge them with your own music, source and listening habits rather than treating manufacturer wording as a guarantee.

What comes in the box, and will it connect to your setup?
FiiO’s listed FT15 package includes suede and protein-leather ear pads, a 4.4 mm balanced cable, 6.35 mm and XLR-4 adapters, and a fabric storage case. Audezy lists a travel case, 4-pin XLR cable, adapters, warranty card and certificate of authenticity with the LCD-2.
Check the current regional listing before buying, since package contents and availability can vary. Match the included cable and adapters to your source: their presence does not guarantee compatibility with every device or connection. The FT15’s two pad types offer an included choice, but the listing alone does not establish which will feel or sound better to you.
