The FiiO FT1 Pro makes open-back planar headphones easier to approach: it combines a large planar-magnetic driver, moderate 20-ohm impedance and supplied single-ended and balanced cables in a 374-gram over-ear design. Its payoff is an airy presentation, broad staging and precise imaging. Its non-negotiable compromise is equally clear: the open cups leak sound and provide little isolation, so these are headphones for a quiet room rather than a commute or shared office.
What the FiiO FT1 Pro is
FiiO describes the FT1 Pro as an open-back planar headphone using its second-generation self-developed planar technology. The driver measures 95×86 mm and uses a 1 μm diaphragm. FiiO’s published specifications list 20 Ω impedance, 112 dB/Vrms sensitivity (95 dB/mW), a 7 Hz–40 kHz frequency-response range and a 374 g weight.

The 7 Hz–40 kHz figure is a manufacturer specification, not evidence that listeners can hear those extreme limits. It indicates the range FiiO says the driver is capable of reproducing; audible results still depend on recordings, fit, source equipment and individual hearing.

Air and space instead of isolation
The perforated backs let air move through the ear cups. That normally produces a less enclosed presentation than a closed-back headphone, with room ambience and instrument placement feeling more separated. FiiO says the architecture is intended to enhance frequency response and resolution.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The same openings let your music escape and outside sounds enter. Anyone nearby can hear playback, while voices, fans and household noise remain audible to you. The FT1 Pro is therefore a poor choice for a library desk next to other people, an airplane or any situation where privacy matters. It is much better suited to a quiet room at home.
Planar detail without a difficult electrical load
Planar drivers use a thin diaphragm driven across a magnetic structure rather than the conventional voice-coil arrangement found in many dynamic headphones. In the FT1 Pro, the 20-ohm impedance and 112 dB/Vrms sensitivity suggest that ordinary laptops, phones with a suitable headphone output and basic dongle DACs can reach useful volume. A dedicated DAC/amp remains an optional system choice for cleaner output, extra headroom or a preferred desktop setup, not an automatic purchase requirement.

Sound: neutral, spacious and revealing
RTINGS characterizes the FT1 Pro as broadly flat, with rolled-off bass, flat mids and analytical treble. That balance favors hearing vocal texture, guitar attack and recording differences over a deliberately warm or bass-heavy presentation. Listeners seeking subwoofer-like low-end emphasis may find it restrained.

The closed FT1 places greater emphasis on bass, while the FT1 Pro trades that weight for openness and positional clarity. Neither tuning is universally superior: the choice depends on whether you value impact and isolation or space and separation.

Comfort, fit and connections
FiiO specifies breathable fabric-contact ear pads and a suede headband contact surface. The headband offers 12 adjustment positions, giving more scope to set the cups evenly over the ears. At 374 g, the FT1 Pro is not a lightweight model, so comfort will depend on head shape, clamping force and how long you listen; published comfort impressions should not be treated as universal.
Each ear cup has a 3.5 mm headphone connector. The package includes both a 3.5 mm single-ended cable and a 4.4 mm balanced cable, allowing connection to common portable sources or balanced outputs without buying a replacement cable first. A balanced cable does not inherently make the headphone sound better; it is primarily a connector and output-compatibility option.

Who should buy the FT1 Pro?
- Choose it if you primarily listen in a quiet room and want a spacious, detailed presentation without starting with a high-impedance headphone amplifier.
- Choose it if imaging, vocal clarity and a comparatively neutral balance matter more than maximum bass impact.
- Look elsewhere if you need privacy, commute with headphones, work around other people or want strong low-end emphasis.
- Check the fit first if 374 g sounds heavy for your usual listening sessions; pad comfort and clamp vary between listeners.
How to set it up
- Use the supplied 3.5 mm cable with a standard headphone output, or the supplied 4.4 mm cable with a compatible balanced output.
- Adjust the headband across its 12 positions until the pads surround both ears evenly and the cable hangs without pulling one side down.
- Start playback at low volume, then raise it gradually. The open design will not block room noise, so do not compensate for outside sound by listening dangerously loud.
- Reserve the FT1 Pro for a space where leakage is acceptable; switch to a closed-back model when isolation or privacy is required.
