Its coaxial dual-driver system, USB DAC controls and capable microphone are unusual at roughly $69–$70. However, the stock sound can be muddy and bass-heavy, the plastic construction feels inexpensive, and comfort depends heavily on head shape. Anyone seeking wireless play should look elsewhere.
What the FiiO FG3 is
The FG3 is a wired gaming headset with two connection routes: an analog 3.5mm headset plug and a USB-C control/DAC path that can connect to USB-A hosts with the included adapter. It has no Bluetooth or other wireless mode, so every gaming session requires a cable.

Its defining hardware is a coaxial dual-driver assembly: a 50mm dynamic driver handles mid-to-low frequencies and a 16mm dynamic driver supplies high-frequency detail. FiiO specifies a 4kHz crossover, 32-ohm impedance and support for up to 192kHz/24-bit audio through the digital path. The headset is driver-free, meaning the USB controls work without installing software.

How it sounds for games and music
Detail and positional information
Independent listening found that the FG3 can reveal dialogue, nearby footsteps and high-frequency cues clearly. The 16mm driver gives voices and treble information enough presence to help separate close sounds from a busy scene. That clarity is also useful for music: TechRadar described the hardware as “fantastic for music,” with the dual-driver arrangement and EQ modes showing real potential.

The stock profile is the main weakness
Out of the box, the tuning can sound muddy, bass-rumbly or muted. Low-end energy adds weight to gunfire, explosions and environmental effects, but it can mask the separation that competitive players need. The result is not a lack of detail so much as detail covered by excess warmth and rumble.
FiiO supports a 10-band custom EQ through its browser controls. Reducing the low bass and lower mids, then adding only as much treble as your ears tolerate, is the practical way to expose footsteps and dialogue. The headset also offers FPS, Action, MOBA, Rhythm, Cinema and Music presets. FiiO notes that FPS, MOBA and Rhythm modes do not use 7.1 virtual-surround processing, so those presets should not be mistaken for surround simulation.

There are no independent laboratory frequency-response or latency measurements available here. Sound judgments are therefore based on reviewer listening rather than a standardized measurement, and EQ results will vary with fit, source and personal preference.
Comfort, build and everyday use
Comfort is genuinely inconsistent between reviewers
Tom’s Guide used the FG3 for seven consecutive hours without discomfort and praised its breathable, sweat-resistant, swappable mesh pads. TechRadar reached the opposite conclusion: the cups felt soft, but the clamp and firm headband created pressure that required breaks during long sessions. Treat the fit as head-shape dependent rather than assuming either verdict applies universally.

Construction and portability
The approximately 315g weight includes the microphone, and FiiO rates ear-cup pressure at 3.8N ± 0.3N. The pads can be removed and replaced, which helps with maintenance and fit experimentation. The trade-offs are a predominantly plastic feel, folding cups without a carry case, and a design that does not feel as premium as the audio hardware suggests.
The microphone is removable and reviewers found its performance solid for voice chat. In-line controls and the USB DAC add useful volume and mode access without requiring a software installation.

Connections and console compatibility
The 3.5mm connection is the straightforward option for devices with a combined headset jack, including PCs with the appropriate port and consoles or handhelds that expose headset audio through their controller or body. On PlayStation 5, Xbox, Switch and PC, use the platform’s headset jack when available; USB support depends on the specific console port, adapter and system compatibility. The USB-C/USB-A route is most predictable on a PC or other host that accepts USB audio.
Because the FG3 is wired-only, it cannot provide cable-free play on any of those platforms. Check whether your setup needs a controller connection, a USB-A port or an additional adapter before buying.

At the time of the cited 2026 reviews, the listed price was about $69.99/£69.99 at TechRadar and $69/£69 at Tom’s Guide. Regional pricing and promotions can change, but the roughly $69–$70 tier is central to the value proposition.
For that money, the FG3 combines a dual-driver design, USB DAC controls, browser EQ, multiple game presets, a removable microphone and replaceable pads. The compromises are equally clear: no wireless operation, inexpensive-feeling construction, a potentially fatiguing fit and a stock profile that benefits from tuning. It is better value for an audio-focused player than for someone who wants effortless plug-and-play sound.
Who should buy the FG3?
- Buy it if: you play wired, care about dialogue and positional detail, listen to music as well as games, and are comfortable spending a few minutes on EQ.
- Consider another headset if: wireless convenience is essential, you are sensitive to clamp or headband pressure, or you expect a balanced sound immediately without adjustments.
- Before ordering: confirm your console or PC has the required 3.5mm or USB port, and check current regional pricing.
Bottom line
The FiiO FG3 earns its place as a strong budget wired headset because its drivers, DAC controls, EQ and microphone deliver more audio flexibility than its price suggests. Its sound is most impressive after taming the bass and lower-mid muddiness. The design is less convincing: build quality feels cheap, long-session comfort is disputed, and there is no wireless fallback. Buy it as an inexpensive, tunable audio tool—not as a universally comfortable or maintenance-free gaming headset.
