To loop a prerecorded ASMR video into YouTube Live, use FFmpeg’s -stream_loop -1 input option and pace file playback with -re. Put both before the input file, then encode to a YouTube-supported format using a bitrate suited to your resolution and frame rate. The example below is a starting point—not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming. Test it with your actual file and monitor YouTube’s stream health.
Start with this FFmpeg command
This example targets 1080p30 SDR video encoded as H.264, with AAC stereo audio. YouTube Help’s current recommended H.264 bitrate for 1080p30 is 14 Mbps. Replace the input path and RTMPS destination with your own values.
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "/path/to/asmr.mp4"
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
-r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-b:v 14M -maxrate 14M -bufsize 28M
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_INGEST_ADDRESS/YOUR_STREAM_NAME"
This is an illustrative command, not a published FFmpeg preset or a tested guarantee for every FFmpeg build, computer, file, or YouTube event. The path and destination are placeholders. Use the assigned ingestion address and stream name/key from YouTube Live Control Room or the YouTube Live Streaming API, and verify that your installed FFmpeg build supports the selected encoder and options.
The H.264 bitrate, AAC audio settings, RTMPS protocol, and two-second keyframe interval align with YouTube Help’s published guidance checked on October 3, 2026. The extra -keyint_min and -sc_threshold options are illustrative libx264 controls, not YouTube requirements; their behavior can vary by encoder build. Check ffmpeg -h encoder=libx264 if an option is rejected or behaves differently. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed four seconds. YouTube’s encoder settings and the FFmpeg documentation explain the relevant platform and command-line options.

What the loop and real-time options do
-stream_loop -1: repeat the input indefinitely
FFmpeg’s -stream_loop option controls how many times an input is looped; -1 requests infinite repetition. It applies to the input that follows it, so place it before that input’s -i.
-re: read the file at its native frame rate
-re reads the input at its native frame rate. FFmpeg documents it as equivalent to -readrate 1 and useful when packet timing matters, including live streaming. It is also an input option and belongs before the corresponding -i.
These options control file playback and repetition; they do not by themselves guarantee that FFmpeg stays running, that a network connection never drops, or that YouTube accepts the stream continuously.

Choose resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframes together
The following are YouTube Help’s recommended video bitrates, in Mbps, for the listed resolutions and frame rates. They are platform configuration recommendations, not guarantees of picture quality on every source or connection. For H.264 SDR, choose the row matching your output. The AV1/H.265 figures are YouTube’s recommendations for those codecs.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

|---|---|---|
| 2160p (4K) at 60 fps | 50 Mbps | 35 Mbps |
| 2160p (4K) at 30 fps | 42 Mbps | 30 Mbps |
| 1440p at 60 fps | 34 Mbps | 24 Mbps |
| 1440p at 30 fps | 21 Mbps | 15 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 480p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 360p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
YouTube also lists minimum bitrates separately. For example, its H.264 minimum is 5 Mbps at 1080p30 and 3 Mbps at 720p30; the recommended values in the table are 14 Mbps and 6 Mbps respectively. Prefer the recommended figure if your upload connection can sustain it, and allow headroom for other network use and bitrate variation. YouTube advises choosing a quality reliable for the available connection and testing upload bitrate.
Set a two-second keyframe interval
YouTube expresses keyframe frequency in seconds. With a constant frame rate, multiply frames per second by two to translate that interval into a GOP size: at 30 fps, use 60 frames; at 60 fps, use 120 frames. In the example, -g 60 corresponds to two seconds at 30 fps. Do not set a GOP longer than four seconds, and check the chosen encoder’s documentation because GOP options are codec-specific.

Audio, color, and supported formats
YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS as supported live protocols and recommends RTMPS. Its listed video codecs include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, with frame rates up to 60 fps. For stereo audio, YouTube lists AAC or MP3, 44.1 kHz, and 128 kbps. For SDR, it lists Rec. 709 and 8-bit. YouTube’s settings also list 5.1 surround only for AAC over RTMP/RTMPS, at 48 kHz and 384 kbps. See YouTube Help’s current encoder settings before using a different codec, audio layout, or color format.
Set the YouTube destination safely
- Get the event’s ingestion details. In YouTube Live Control Room or through the Live Streaming API, obtain the assigned ingestion address and stream name/key. The API documents a primary ingestion address and stream name, as well as optional backup ingestion addresses. See Google’s LiveStreams API documentation.
- Use the assigned RTMPS destination. YouTube describes RTMPS as encrypting data through Google’s servers. Follow the destination format shown for your event and the requirements of your installed FFmpeg build.
- Keep the stream key private. Do not put a real key in a public command, screenshot, article, or log. The example’s destination is deliberately a placeholder.
- Match the output to the event configuration. YouTube automatically detects settings by default. If you manually specify stream resolution, use the custom stream-key settings described by YouTube Help.
The API documents ingestion fields; it does not make one destination string universal for every encoder interface. Some interfaces accept the ingestion URL and stream name separately, while others use a combined destination. Use the exact values and format assigned for your event.
Prepare and test the ASMR loop
Inspect the repeat point
FFmpeg repeats the file; it does not automatically repair an awkward edit. Listen to and watch the end-to-start transition. A sudden sound, room-tone change, click, silence, image jump, or lighting shift can become conspicuous on every repeat. If the boundary is noticeable, edit the source into a smoother loop and test the revised file.

Check your source and output
- Confirm that the file contains the intended audio track and that its duration and picture are correct.
- Check aspect ratio, output resolution, frame rate, and audio level in the YouTube preview.
- Watch representative motion and listen to representative audio, not only a quiet or still opening.
- Observe the loop boundary at least once in a test run.
- Review YouTube’s stream-health feedback and messages before and during the event.
YouTube advises testing before starting and monitoring stream health during the event. The checks above add practical ways to assess an ASMR-specific source; they are not additional platform requirements.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Separate audio or other common command changes
If audio is a separate file
The sample assumes the MP4 already contains the desired audio. If you add an independent audio input, its loop behavior and duration must be coordinated with the video. Looping the video input does not automatically loop a separate audio input. Build and test a command for the actual files rather than assuming one input option controls both.
If you change resolution or frame rate
Change the output frame rate, GOP frame count, and bitrate as a set. For example, a 1080p60 H.264 stream uses YouTube’s recommended 17 Mbps and a two-second GOP of 120 frames; a 720p30 H.264 stream uses 6 Mbps and 60 frames. These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees that your connection or source can deliver that output reliably.

Troubleshooting
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Check that the event is configured and that you copied its current ingestion address and stream name/key correctly. Confirm RTMPS destination syntax for your FFmpeg build, and keep the key private while checking it.
- The stream starts but reports connection or health problems: Compare the chosen bitrate with your upload capacity, reduce output quality if the connection cannot sustain it, and leave bandwidth headroom. Test the complete path and inspect YouTube’s health messages.
- The stream ends after one pass: Confirm that
-stream_loop -1appears before the relevant input’s-i. Check that it is applied to the file intended to repeat. - Playback runs too quickly or timing is unsuitable for live output: Put
-rebefore the corresponding-iso FFmpeg reads the file at its native frame rate. - The loop has a click, abrupt sound, or visible jump: The source boundary is likely audible or visible. Edit and recheck the end-to-start transition; the loop option cannot make a poor cut seamless.
- FFmpeg rejects an option: Check the installed build and selected encoder. The sample’s libx264-specific controls are illustrative; consult
ffmpeg -h encoder=libx264for that build and retain the two-second keyframe target using the appropriate controls. - Audio is missing or out of sync: Verify the selected input has the expected audio track and inspect the YouTube preview. If audio comes from a separate file, coordinate its duration and looping behavior independently.
What this setup does—and does not—keep running
A looped input is not the same as an unattended, indefinitely reliable service. The command does not establish automatic reconnection, process supervision, server uptime, or YouTube event-duration policy. Those are separate operational issues; test the complete setup and verify the requirements for your particular event before relying on continuous operation.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a prerecorded YouTube stream to keep running without leaving a computer or home connection on, StreamNeo runs the uploaded video or playlist from the cloud. The setup is three steps:
- Upload your recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the content from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding. StreamNeo also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for prerecorded video streaming to YouTube, not live camera input. Start your free day on StreamNeo.
