A camouflaged Ferrari 296 prototype has been reported with aggressive aerodynamic details, but Ferrari has not confirmed a road-going model called the “296 Challenge Stradale.” The name, road-car plans and rumored specifications remain unverified; the spy shots show a prototype, not a confirmed production car.
What the spy shots appear to show
SlashGear’s Oct. 8, 2026 report describes a red-camouflaged prototype marked with neon-yellow Flow-Viz paint. The car appears to have larger front intakes, two stacked side flaps ahead of the front wheels, exposed low side skirts, twin exhausts and a wider-looking stance. These are visual observations and interpretations, not confirmation of production equipment. SlashGear’s report

The latest car described by SlashGear does not have the large swan-neck rear wing seen in earlier reported images. A separate report from The Supercar Blog on Aug. 23, 2026 describes prototypes with a swan-neck wing and large end plates, a prominent front splitter, rear diffuser, mesh-type fascia, low side skirts and dual center exhausts. Different prototypes may carry different parts, and neither report establishes what a production car would use. The Supercar Blog’s report
SlashGear also points to parking sensors on earlier prototypes as a sign that road registration may be planned. That is an inference from the reported images, not a Ferrari statement confirming a road car.

Has Ferrari confirmed a 296 Challenge Stradale?
No. In the Ferrari materials cited here, the company confirms the 296 Challenge competition car and the 296 Speciale road car, but not a road-going model called the 296 Challenge Stradale. “296 Challenge Stradale” is a tentative name used in coverage, not an announced Ferrari model name. The spy-shot reporting makes a road version plausible, but its existence and intended role remain unconfirmed.
How the reported prototype compares with confirmed 296s
| Model | Intended use and powertrain | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| 296 Challenge | Ferrari Challenge competition car; 2,992 cc, 120-degree twin-turbo V6 without the hybrid component | Ferrari specifies 700 cv at 7,500 rpm and 740 Nm at 6,000 rpm. These are race-car figures, not specifications for the rumored road prototype. Ferrari’s 296 Challenge announcement |
| 296 Speciale | Special-version, mid-rear-engined plug-in hybrid berlinetta | Ferrari announced 880 hp combined output, 50 more than the 296 GTB, and 20% more downforce than the 296 GTB. These figures apply to the Speciale. Ferrari’s 296 Speciale announcement |
| Reported road prototype | Possible road-going counterpart to the 296 Challenge; powertrain not confirmed | Ferrari has not announced its name, specifications or launch timing in the cited material. Media estimates are unverified. |
The figures use the units Ferrari gives for each established car: cv for the 296 Challenge and hp for the 296 Speciale. They should not be treated as interchangeable figures or transferred to the unconfirmed prototype.

What is rumored about power, weight and timing?
SlashGear reports that Ferrari has not disclosed power or performance for the possible road car. It relays speculation that the car could omit the hybrid system, make about 720 hp and weigh 2,866 pounds dry; it also says a prototype debut could come as soon as November and that the car could join the lineup in 2027. The Supercar Blog separately reports expectations of a non-electrified twin-turbo V6, around 720 hp, an estimated dry mass of about 1,300 kg and a possible November debut. The two reports broadly align on a non-hybrid V6 and roughly 720 hp, but that agreement does not make the configuration or figures official. Until Ferrari provides details, there is no reliable basis for comparing the prototype’s performance with the Challenge or Speciale.

What can be concluded from the images?
- The reported prototype looks more track-focused than a standard 296, with prominent aerodynamic details and a wider-looking stance.
- Reported prototypes do not all show the same rear-wing configuration, so the wing’s presence on one car does not establish final equipment.
- Ferrari’s official 296 Challenge and 296 Speciale provide useful context, but neither model’s specifications establish those of the rumored road car.
