There is no single best wonderkid for every save. In THESPIKE’s launch-day database snapshot (updated September 25, 2026), Lamine Yamal is the headline name at 89 OVR and 95 potential. He is also a premium signing, so he suits only some clubs. A cheaper project such as Geovany Quenda or Nathan De Cat, both listed at 71 OVR and 88 potential, may serve a rebuild better. This guide sorts the options by what you need: ready-now quality, long-term growth, versatility, or the women’s game.

Choose by the kind of save you are running
Big budget, want results now
Prioritise current OVR with some headroom left. Yamal, Neves and Cubarsí fit here. They are rated 87 or higher in THESPIKE’s snapshot and still have a listed potential gap of 4 to 6 points. You pay for that certainty in transfer fee and wages.
Long rebuild or limited budget
Look at the gap between current rating and potential. Diomande (80 to 89) is a nine-point project. Quenda and De Cat each show a 17-point gap, from 71 to 88. A big gap only helps if the player gets minutes and you can wait for the growth to arrive. It is also only a listed ceiling, not a promise.

Women’s Career Mode
THESPIKE also covers women’s prospects. Besides López, it names Olivia Moultrie, Linda Caicedo and Melchie Dumornay as notable young players. Judge them with the same questions as the men: current rating, potential, position and playing time.
Why potential alone is not a plan
EA’s Career Mode Deep Dive puts it this way: “Underlying ability still matters, but it is no longer the whole story.” FC 27’s Dynamic OVR responds to form, morale and match fitness. EA says strong form can lift a player above his usual level, while poor form, injury and limited opportunities can pull a rating down. Morale is shaped by playing time, squad role and expectations.

In practice, check four things before signing a prospect:
- A route to minutes. Who blocks him in your squad? A bench-bound 88-potential player can stall and become unhappy.
- Position fit. Make sure your formation and roles use his main position, or an alternate one such as Quenda’s RM/RW/CAM spread.
- Affordability. EA says the rebuilt transfer market and negotiation screen show fees, installments, bonuses and future obligations more clearly. Compare the whole deal structure, not just the headline value.
- Your time horizon. Decide whether you are building for next season or several seasons ahead, and pick on that basis.
Using the scouting system
THESPIKE says attributes are visible straight away. It describes scouting reports covering Tactical Fit, Future, Financial Assessment and Status, and says staff quality affects how accurate the ceiling estimate is. That is the guide’s reading of the system, not something independently tested here. Treat a scouted ceiling as an estimate, especially with weaker scouts.

Why different lists disagree
Published lists use different rules and snapshots. Epic Games Store’s guide (September 22, 2026) searched the database for players under 24 with potential of 87 or higher. THESPIKE blends age, OVR, potential, growth, price, position and playing-time fit. Names, ages and numbers can differ without either list being wrong. EA Help says squad updates carry current transfers and ratings, so download the latest one before you shop.
Launch-period issues to keep in mind
EA’s Career Mode launch update of September 29, 2026 said the team was monitoring stamina and Dynamic OVR. It was also working on a fix for generated players entering Career Mode with higher starting OVRs than expected. EA said it was reviewing playtime-related transfer requests and addressing Liga MX progression issues as well. That describes launch conditions, not the current state of the game. Generated youth players and long-save outcomes may behave differently after later patches.

The Bottom Line
Sign Yamal, Neves or Cubarsí if your budget allows and you want quality now. Choose Diomande, Quenda or De Cat if you can wait for growth. In a women’s save, start with López. Whoever you pick, confirm the player’s rating in your updated squad and make sure he has a place to play.
