If you want one name to build around, Lamine Yamal is the headline pick in published FC 27 lists: a right winger, age 18, 89 OVR and 95 potential in The Spike’s shortlist updated September 25, 2026. He is also the obvious pick for every club with the budget, so most managers need a wider list. Below are the strongest names from the published lists, grouped by what you need: a starter now, a long-term ceiling, or a cheap bet. After that comes what the numbers can and can’t promise in FC 27’s Career Mode.
What “best” means for a wonderkid
“Best” can mean strongest now, highest ceiling, biggest growth margin, cheapest to sign, or best fit for a position. A list that doesn’t say which one it ranks by is hard to use. The Spike’s guide suggests weighing age, current OVR, potential, growth, price, position and available playing time. This article uses the same factors.

The “Growth” column is simple arithmetic (potential minus OVR) from the guide’s figures. It is not a published stat.

Picking by need
Ready to start now
Yamal (89), Neves (87), Cubarsí (87), Doué (85), Paz (85) and Güler (84) are all at or near first-team level and have the smallest growth margins. They improve your starting XI immediately, but they cost the most and their clubs are the least willing to sell.
Highest long-term ceiling
Yamal (95) and Neves (92) lead on potential. Doué and Cubarsí follow at 91. If you want a star who is already good and still rising, these four are the safest picks on the list.

Biggest growth projects
De Cat (+17), Ngumoha and Mora (+13 each) and Read (+11) have the most room to grow, with OVR between 71 and 77. They are squad players first and stars later. Giving them minutes matters, because EA ties development to performance and playing time.
By position
- Winger / wide attacker: Yamal, Doué, Diomande, Ngumoha, Güler
- Attacking midfield: Paz, Mora, Güler
- Central / defensive midfield: Neves, De Cat
- Centre-back: Cubarsí, Vušković
- Right-back: Read
Pick the player who fills a gap in your formation. A high-potential player who has to sit behind a better starter develops slowly.

Cheaper bets (Epic Games Store, Phil Iwaniuk, 2026)
Epic’s guide only considers players under 24 with potential of 87 or higher. Its fees are in-game estimates, not fixed prices, and they will move with your save and any squad update.

Hellstern is the low-budget option: a very small fee for a long project. Seimen offers the same potential as Risser at about a third of the estimated price. Risser is the most expensive of the three but already at 81.

Why potential is not a promise in FC 27
Guides disagree here. The Spike and Epic print numeric potential values. Another FC 27 guide, updated October 1, leaves out potential entirely, because EA’s Career Mode Deep Dive describes potential as an estimate rather than a fixed lookup value.
EA’s explanation: “Real-world managers can’t guarantee a player’s ceiling. Instead, they rely on Coaches, Scouts, observation, data, and experience to estimate a player’s trajectory.” In practice:

- Dynamic OVR can rise or fall with form, morale, match fitness, injuries and playing time.
- Your coaches and scouts assess potential, and better staff give a more accurate read.
- Strong, sustained performances can raise a player’s ceiling. Poor form can hurt momentum.
Treat a printed potential as the database’s starting view, not a guarantee. EA’s official game page also describes a rebuilt Manager Career transfer market with realistic player values and active club bidding, so a player’s price and availability can shift as the season goes on.
In its first post-launch Career Mode update, dated September 29, 2026, EA said it is watching feedback on Stamina and Dynamic OVR. It wants to observe longer saves before making significant adjustments. Ratings behavior may therefore change with patches.
Update your squads first
EA recommends downloading the latest squad updates before starting Career Mode, so transfers and ratings are current. Go to Settings > Edit Teams > Download Updates. Lists like the ones above are only snapshots, and an update can change ages, ratings and clubs.

- Role fit: does his primary or secondary position fill a gap in your formation?
- Ready or project: do you need OVR this season, or can you wait?
- Cost: check the fee and his wages against your budget in your own save, since guide fees are estimates.
- Minutes: who is ahead of him? Playing time feeds Dynamic OVR and development.
- Scouting: look at your staff’s own potential read, not only the number in a guide.
Ages in these lists are as of the guide date. They advance as your save progresses, which shortens the “wonderkid” window. The Spike also publishes women’s Career Mode suggestions if you play that side.
