The Fastcalc X8B is a compact, fanless mini PC built around Intel’s Core Ultra 5 125U. Its standout feature is networking: eight Ethernet ports rated at up to 2.5Gbps each. Two DDR5 memory slots reportedly accept up to 64GB, and the replaceable M.2 2280 SSD means the entry-level 256GB drive is not necessarily permanent. The only reported retail sighting is Amazon Germany, so stock and pricing require a live regional check.
What the Fastcalc X8B is
The X8B combines a laptop-class Intel Core Ultra 5 125U processor with passive, fanless cooling. That design targets users who need silent operation, including installations where a conventional fan could add noise, dust movement or another mechanical failure point. The model has also been described as suitable for industrial environments such as factory floors, although no long-term reliability or environmental certification data has been published in the available reporting.

Its defining hardware is not a graphics feature or a high-end storage array, but eight 2.5-gigabit Ethernet ports. That unusually large port count makes the X8B a candidate for routing, firewall and industrial-network appliances, provided the operating system and software can address all interfaces as required.

Is eight-port 2.5GbE useful for a firewall?
It can be. Eight independent ports provide more physical interfaces than the typical home mini PC, allowing separate connections for WAN, LAN segments, management, storage or industrial equipment. Each interface is rated up to 2.5Gbps, giving more headroom than gigabit Ethernet for multi-device traffic.

That is a hardware fit, not proof of firewall performance. No independent throughput, latency, power or thermal test was located. Before deploying the X8B, verify that your chosen firewall or router operating system supports the network controllers, VLAN configuration, hardware offload and boot mode you need. Also check whether your installation requires features such as redundant WAN failover, serial management or a dedicated console port; those capabilities are not established by the reported specification.
Practical firewall and router uses
- Multi-segment offices that need separate physical interfaces as well as VLANs.
- Labs testing several isolated networks at once.
- Industrial gateways connecting production equipment, management networks and upstream links.
- Small data-room appliances where silent operation is preferable.
Memory and storage upgrades
RAM
The X8B reportedly has two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots and supports up to 64GB. Because the memory is not soldered, buyers of the 8GB entry model can replace or expand the modules instead of being locked to the original capacity. Confirm the exact DDR5 speed, module pairing requirements and vendor compatibility before ordering a kit; those details were not provided in the available report.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
SSD
Storage uses an M.2 2280 SSD that can be replaced. The reported base configuration includes 256GB, but that capacity does not have to remain the long-term limit if a larger compatible drive is installed. Check whether the replacement must be single-sided, which PCIe generation is supported and whether an operating-system image or recovery partition must be transferred; those implementation details have not been published.
Display and everyday desktop connectivity
For ordinary desktop use, the X8B includes HDMI, DisplayPort and USB Type-C, plus four USB 3.2 ports. Those outputs can connect monitors and peripherals without relying on adapters for every accessory. The reported SIM-card slot may support cellular connectivity when paired with a compatible modem, but the modem type, carrier bands and installation procedure are not specified.

Fanless operation: benefits and cautions
Passive cooling eliminates fan noise and avoids a moving part that can collect dust or fail. That is attractive in recording spaces, reception desks, control rooms and industrial cabinets where acoustic output matters.
Fanless does not automatically mean cool or maintenance-free. Sustained workloads, ambient temperature, enclosure airflow and installation orientation all affect how a passively cooled system behaves. No laboratory temperature, sustained-performance or power measurements are available for the X8B, so treat its thermal behavior as an installation question rather than a proven benchmark result.

Availability, price and what to verify before buying
Notebookcheck reported that the X8B surfaced on Amazon in Germany and noted that broad worldwide availability was not established. It may also be an OEM design sold under another name. The reported starting configuration—8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD—was listed from €700. Both the seller and the final price can change, and import costs, VAT treatment, warranty coverage and delivery options differ by country.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Confirm that the listing is the exact X8B model and identify the seller and warranty provider.
- Check whether the advertised €700 configuration still includes 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD.
- Verify the power adapter, regional plug and operating-system status.
- Ask for the network-controller model if your firewall software requires a supported chipset.
- Budget for a compatible DDR5 SO-DIMM kit or larger M.2 2280 SSD if the base configuration is insufficient.
- Confirm return and support arrangements, especially if importing from Germany.
Who should consider the X8B?
The X8B makes the most sense when you specifically need many wired interfaces, silent operation and upgradeable components in one small system. Network engineers can use the eight-port layout as a starting point for a firewall or gateway build, while industrial users may value the passive design and multiple physical links.

It is a less obvious choice if you only need one or two Ethernet ports, require proven sustained performance, or need globally standardized support. In those cases, wait until the seller provides full controller, thermal, power and warranty documentation, or select a platform with independently published measurements.
