Playground Games describes Fable as a fully open-world, single-player action RPG. Its official FAQ describes buying homes, becoming landlords, managing businesses, and working as a blacksmith. In a developer feature published by Xbox Wire on 10 June 2026, game director Ralph Fulton said: “You could buy their house and become their landlord, or buy a shop and become their employer.” Players can reportedly set wages, and workers may refuse a job, so the business idea includes a staffing decision rather than just passive ownership.

That is a scheduled future date, not a guarantee; the game remains unreleased as of 4 October 2026, so these features are announced rather than verified in a shipped game. The FAQ also advertises “1,000+ hand crafted NPCs”; that is a developer claim about the announced game, not an independently verified count or a measure of quality.

KINGDOMS: a business-minded sandbox in Early Access
The Steam listing describes KINGDOMS as a procedural medieval RPG in a randomly generated open world, with trading, shops, taverns, manufactories, and settlement or kingdom management. That makes it worth considering if you want a sandbox built around commerce and building up a community. Steam lists the game as Early Access, however, so advertised systems and the current state of the game should be checked on its listing before buying.
If getting a job matters more than running a shop
FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time
Nintendo’s official description calls the game’s 14 job paths “Lives.” They span gathering, crafting, and combat, and the design lets you switch between them. That is the clearest released choice here for trying different work-like activities as part of an open-world fantasy adventure. Nintendo lists its release date as 21 May 2025.

Nintendo’s description supports those features, but it does not establish running a player-owned business. Choose it for the combination of varied jobs and home-building, not as a substitute for Fable’s announced landlord or employer systems.

Skyrim with Hearthfire
Bethesda’s support guidance confirms that players can qualify to purchase land in Falkreath, Hjaalmarch, or Dawnstar after earning a Jarl’s trust and receiving a letter. That makes Hearthfire a fit for a large fantasy RPG where acquiring land and building a home is the goal. It is not evidence of conventional employment or business ownership. Check that Hearthfire or an edition that includes it is available for your platform before choosing this route.
