For most new players, Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition is the simplest purchase: it combines the base single-player RPG with all six official add-ons. Choose a PC storefront based on your mod plans and whether you want an offline installer, and verify the exact Xbox generation, license type, region, and current PlayStation availability before buying. The four story expansions can raise the level cap to 50; the two content packs add equipment and challenges instead.
What is Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition?
Ultimate Edition is the complete official package of Fallout: New Vegas, Obsidian Entertainment’s single-player role-playing game published by Bethesda Softworks. It includes the original game and six add-ons:

The four story expansions add five levels each, so installing all four increases the maximum level to 50. Courier’s Stash and Gun Runners’ Arsenal do not raise the cap. No, not if you buy Ultimate Edition. Its package includes the base game plus Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, Lonesome Road, Courier’s Stash and Gun Runners’ Arsenal. The base edition contains only the game, so adding every expansion afterward can be less straightforward than purchasing Ultimate at the outset.

If you already own the base game, buying individual add-ons is possible where the relevant store still lists them. Confirm that the add-on is for the same platform and account as your game. A PC license does not transfer to Xbox, and a console disc does not automatically grant a PC copy.
Which DLC is story content?
Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues and Lonesome Road are the narrative expansions. They temporarily take the Courier away from the ordinary Mojave route and each has its own entry point. Courier’s Stash is an item bundle, while Gun Runners’ Arsenal is a gear-and-challenge pack with no separate story campaign.
How do I start Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, or Lonesome Road?
Once an add-on is installed and enabled, its radio signal and quest appear in the Pip-Boy after the required point in the main game. The following triggers are the reliable in-game signposts:
- Dead Money: Look for the Sierra Madre Broadcast in the Pip-Boy. Following the “Sierra Madre Grand Opening” quest leads to the Abandoned Brotherhood of Steel Bunker.
- Honest Hearts: The Happy Trails Caravan signal starts the “Happy Trails Expedition” quest. Travel to the Northern Passage and speak with Jed Masterson to begin.
- Old World Blues: Tune to the Mysterious Broadcast and follow “Midnight Science Fiction Feature.” The entrance is at the Mojave Drive-In between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m.
- Lonesome Road: The Radio Signal starts “The Reunion.” It directs you to Canyon Wreckage and onward to the Divide.
Honest Hearts’ crafting recipes are available from the start of that add-on when your character meets the relevant level and item requirements. Courier’s Stash equipment is available at the beginning of the game. Gun Runners’ Arsenal content appears through its challenges, weapons, modifications and perk rather than a new quest marker.
What should I know before entering an expansion?
- Save in a separate slot before following an expansion’s signal. Each story add-on changes your immediate equipment and travel options, and a backup makes it easy to return to the Mojave if you change your mind.
- Read the level and equipment requirements shown in the quest or item description. A signal can be visible before your character is well prepared for the area.
- Plan around the temporary nature of each expansion. The game normally returns you to the Mojave after completion, but the expansion’s own warning and point-of-no-return messages should be treated seriously.
Where can I play Fallout: New Vegas?
PC: Steam
Steam lists the game as a single-player, moddable RPG and offers both the base game and an Ultimate purchase option. The page’s minimum requirements are legacy specifications from the original release era; they are not a guarantee that every modern Windows configuration will run the game perfectly. Steam’s client support changed to Windows 10 and later on January 1, 2024, so distinguish the client requirement from the game’s old hardware list.
PC: GOG
GOG lists the Ultimate Edition and explicitly provides a fully offline installer. Galaxy is optional rather than mandatory for installing and launching that package. This is useful if you want an installer you can archive or use without the Galaxy client. It does not, by itself, prove that GOG is the best choice for every mod collection; individual tools and mods may impose their own requirements.

Xbox consoles
An Xbox Ultimate Edition listing exists, and Bethesda documents installation for Xbox 360 licenses used on Xbox One. The exact procedure depends on whether your copy is physical or digital:

A current official PlayStation storefront or support listing was not established here. Do not assume that a PS4 or PS5 subscription catalogue, streaming service or backward-compatibility feature includes New Vegas. Search the PlayStation Store on your own account and region, and verify whether the version offered is downloadable, streamable or unavailable before paying for a subscription or accessory.
Is Steam or GOG better for New Vegas mods?
Neither storefront is universally better. The deciding factors are the mod manager, script extender and other tools required by the specific mod list you want to use.

Vortex is an optional mod manager with Fallout support, installation features, load-order tools and profiles. You can install mods manually or use another manager, but a manager helps you keep profiles, resolve ordering issues and disable a problematic package without deleting the whole game.

- Install a clean copy. Finish the game’s first launch, choose a permanent install location and create a backup of your saves. Avoid placing a heavily modded copy where cloud synchronization will overwrite files unexpectedly.
- Read requirements before downloading. Check the game version, required utilities, load order, compatibility notes and whether the author supports Steam, GOG or another distribution.
- Install foundational tools first. If a mod requires NVSE/xNVSE, use a storefront that the current NVSE documentation supports. Do not infer that an unsupported storefront makes every mod unusable; the warning specifically matters to NVSE-dependent projects.
- Add a manager if useful. Vortex can install packages, manage profiles and assist with load order. Keep a separate profile for testing rather than changing a stable playthrough in place.
- Add a few mods at a time. Launch the game after each small group, test a new save and read the log or error message before continuing. Large one-click collections make it harder to identify a conflicting file.
- Protect your saves. Keep rotating manual saves. Never remove a scripted mod from an active save without following its uninstallation instructions; some changes remain in the save file.
Can you mod Fallout: New Vegas on Xbox?
Official Xbox versions do not provide the same open file access, script-extender support or community mod workflow as the PC release. The Nexus catalogue and tools such as Vortex are PC-oriented. You should therefore assume that a standard Xbox installation cannot use ordinary Nexus Mods, NVSE/xNVSE or PC load-order tools unless an official platform feature explicitly says otherwise.

Xbox DLC is a separate ownership and installation question from modding. A physical Ultimate disc or digital entitlement can provide the six add-ons, but that does not create a way to copy PC mod files onto the console. Verify the console’s current marketplace and compatibility information rather than relying on a PC mod guide.
What is the 15th Anniversary Bundle?
Bethesda announced a 2026 PC 15th Anniversary Bundle containing a PC digital code for Ultimate Edition plus physical collectibles. It is a collector product, not evidence of a new standard physical console edition. Stock, shipping regions, fulfillment dates and retailer availability can change, so confirm those details before treating it as an ordinary game purchase.
If your goal is simply to play, compare the normal PC or Xbox Ultimate listing first. Choose the anniversary bundle only if the physical items matter and the seller clearly states the included PC code, region and delivery terms.

Which edition should you choose?
- New PC player who wants every official quest: Ultimate Edition on Steam or GOG. Select GOG when an offline installer is a priority; select the storefront whose tool support matches your planned mods.
- Base-game owner who wants one expansion: Buy only the specific add-on if your store still lists it and the license matches your platform.
- Xbox player: Confirm whether you are buying a physical disc or digital license, then follow the corresponding DLC installation path. Check backward compatibility for your exact console.
- Mod-focused player: Start on PC, choose a distribution supported by the required utilities, and verify NVSE/xNVSE compatibility before building a load order.
- Collector: Evaluate the 2026 anniversary bundle as a PC-code-and-collectibles product, subject to current stock and regional fulfillment.
- PlayStation owner: Treat availability as unconfirmed until the PlayStation Store for your account and region shows a supported purchase or play option.
Troubleshooting common purchase and installation problems
The add-ons do not appear in-game
Confirm that the DLC is installed, not merely owned, and that you launched the game with the account that owns it. On Xbox, check whether a physical copy requires the second disc or whether a digital purchase needs each add-on installed separately. On PC, restart the launcher after installation and inspect the game’s downloadable-content or plug-in list.
A radio signal or quest is missing
Check that the corresponding add-on is enabled and that your character has entered the Mojave far enough for the signal to trigger. Review the exact trigger names: Sierra Madre Broadcast, Happy Trails Caravan, Mysterious Broadcast and Radio Signal. If a mod changes quests or radio stations, test with a clean profile or save before the alteration.
A mod guide says NVSE is required
Verify the current NVSE/xNVSE documentation and your storefront. Game Pass, Epic Games Store and Bethesda.net versions are listed as unsupported by the NVSE project. Use a supported PC distribution for NVSE-dependent mods, or choose a mod that does not require the extender.
The game runs poorly on a modern PC
The old minimum specifications on a store page describe the original release environment, not guaranteed behavior on every current driver, overlay or Windows configuration. Disable overlays one at a time, keep a clean profile, apply only fixes documented for your version and test changes on a new save. Avoid assuming that a newer GPU alone resolves an engine, plug-in or load-order conflict.
