Fallout 76 still does not support crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox. Its native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions give both console families a new technical starting point, but Bethesda’s September 2026 upgrade announcement did not add cross-platform play. The latest located developer comments, reported in February 2026, said crossplay was not in the immediate plans.
Can PS5 and Xbox play Fallout 76 together?
No. Bethesda’s September 2026 release notes announce native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, performance and stability improvements, and future tuning across current- and previous-generation hardware. They do not announce that PlayStation and Xbox players can join the same sessions. Bethesda’s September 2026 update notes are about the upgrade, not a change to crossplay.

The new builds are relevant to the crossplay discussion because both console families now have native current-generation versions. That is a reason the subject has renewed attention, not evidence that crossplay has been implemented or scheduled.
Does Fallout 76 have cross-platform play?
Not between PlayStation and Xbox, based on the latest located developer comments. In a February 2026 interview reported by GamesRadar+, creative director Jon Rush said the team was looking into the work but that it was “not in the immediate plans.” Production director Bill LaCoste described “huge technical hurdles” in retrofitting the game, including separate platform destinations, entitlements, purchases, and currency.

Those are dated interview comments, not an announcement tied to the September upgrade, and they do not rule out a future change. Bethesda’s upgrade notes do not address crossplay. Their silence is not proof that no separate announcement exists, but the available information does not establish that cross-platform play has arrived.
What the PS5 and Xbox Series upgrade changes
Bethesda says the native versions are available through the respective platform stores and require a full redownload. Its stated display and performance targets are:

Does Fallout 76 have cross-progression?
Some progress can be shared between Steam and the Xbox App for PC when you use the same Bethesda.net account. Bethesda says characters, progress, and in-game items are available across those two PC storefronts, but Atoms, Season Tickets, and Fallout 1st membership balance do not transfer. Bethesda also says PC and Xbox console versions do not share progress. These account and progress rules do not establish crossplay, and the cited support information does not establish PlayStation cross-progression. How to claim the native PS5 version
Bethesda says qualifying players can download the PS5 build at no additional charge. The process depends on where and how you own or access the game:
- If you bought Fallout 76 digitally or own the PS4 disc, claim the PS5 version through the PlayStation Store.
- PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium subscribers with access through the Game Catalog can download the PS5 version.
- Bethesda’s September 17, 2026 update says PlayStation Plus Essential players could download it starting September 25, 2026.
- In Germany, Bethesda notes a EUR 1 charge because of age-rating rules.
Xbox players should use the Xbox store. On either console family, the native version requires the full game to be downloaded again. Bethesda’s upgrade support page has the entitlement details.
