The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) is a better fit for people who value owner repairs and long software support than for buyers seeking the strongest camera, battery life, or performance for €649. Its upgrades over the Gen. 6 are modest: a newer processor and 12GB of RAM instead of 8GB. The central appeal remains its modular design, not a dramatic speed boost.
What changed from the Fairphone (Gen. 6)?
Fairphone’s EU product page lists the Gen. 6+ with a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor and 12GB of RAM, compared with the Gen. 6’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 and 8GB. The listed EU prices are €649 for the Plus and €599 for the Gen. 6. Fairphone says the other specifications are identical; prices and availability can vary by region. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance measurements. Fairphone’s Gen. 6+ specifications

Both models are listed with a 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED display at 1116 × 2484 resolution and an adaptive 10–120Hz refresh rate, a 4,415mAh removable battery, 256GB of expandable storage (up to 2TB), and a 50MP main camera. The Plus is a small specification refresh rather than a new generation of hardware.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow repairable is it?
Fairphone says owners can replace 12 parts, and that opening the phone requires a T5 Torx screwdriver. The Guardian’s Samuel Gibbs describes repairs at home without specialist tools as a defining strength. In practical terms, this design gives owners a route to replace a failed component rather than treating the whole phone as disposable; it does not establish that the phone is the most repairable on the market.

How long will it get Android and security updates?
Fairphone says the Gen. 6+ launched with Android 16 and is planned to receive six Android version upgrades plus one additional year of security updates: seven years of support in total. That commitment is specific to the Plus; it should not be confused with the original Gen. 6’s separate support timeline. Fairphone’s software and security support information

Fairphone says it receives monthly security updates for about three years, then updates every two months from June 2028 until support ends. Those dates and update cadence apply to the Gen. 6, not the Gen. 6+. Fairphone’s launch material for the Gen. 6 also promised a five-year warranty, but buyers should confirm the warranty terms for their exact model and market. Fairphone’s 2025 Gen. 6 press release

How does it compare on everyday use?
The Guardian review, published 24 August 2026, finds the repairability and ethical positioning compelling but describes the camera, battery life, performance, and screen as merely decent for the money. The faster chip and extra RAM are real specification improvements, but they do not by themselves show that the phone outperforms similarly priced mainstream alternatives in everyday use. The review does not provide benchmark figures or controlled battery-test results, so a numerical speed or endurance comparison is not established.
That makes the value decision unusual: the main premium buys a repairable ownership model and a stated long support commitment, rather than class-leading camera or performance results. The Guardian considers it difficult to recommend to everyone, while seeing a clearer case for buyers who put repairability and the phone’s ethical ethos first. Samuel Gibbs’s Guardian review

What do the ethical and environmental claims establish?
Fairphone’s 2025 press release says the original Gen. 6 used more than 50% fair or recycled materials by total weight. The Guardian reports 51% recycled or ethically sourced materials for the Gen. 6+. Fairphone also describes its range as “100% Electronic Waste Neutral.” These are company or review-reported claims, not independently verified lifecycle findings in the cited sources; they do not prove a comparative environmental ranking or quantify emissions reductions. Quick Recap
Who should buy the Fairphone (Gen. 6+)?
- Consider it if you want a phone designed for owner repairs, access to replacement modules, and a long stated software-support commitment.
- Look elsewhere if your priority is the best camera, battery endurance, screen, or performance available for the price; the Guardian review does not place those among the phone’s strongest value points.
- Check before buying if you are outside the EU: the cited €649 and parts prices are EU listings, and regional pricing, availability, warranty terms, and repair-part access may differ.
