Favorites gives you the strongest control over which accounts you see; Feeds gives you the strongest control over how Facebook presents them. Favorites is a hand-picked list inside the Feeds area. Feeds is the broader, recent-post stream for friends, Pages, groups and Favorites, without Facebook’s “Suggested For You” posts. Home remains the discovery view, ranked by Facebook’s recommendation systems.
For most people, open Feeds first. Choose Favorites when you want to narrow that stream to a deliberately selected set of accounts. Neither view removes advertising, and Favorites does not promise to display every post from the accounts you select.

What Facebook means by Favorites, Feeds and Home
These labels describe different layers of Facebook’s content system. Favorites controls the sources you prioritize. Feeds controls the stream in which you browse connected accounts. Home is optimized for discovery and personalization rather than strict control.

Favorites is a curated list of friends and Pages you care about most, shown as a filter within Feeds. Facebook’s documentation presents it as a way to prioritize selected accounts. A 2022 walkthrough by TIME also describes selecting groups and reports a limit of up to 30 favorites. That limit and the exact account types available can vary with the app version, device and account.

Adding someone to Favorites does not create a separate archive or guarantee that every post from that account will appear. It tells Facebook which connected accounts deserve priority when you use the Favorites view.
Feeds is the recent-post stream
Feeds is Facebook’s tab for recent posts from friends, Pages, groups and Favorites. Meta says Feeds has no “Suggested For You” posts. TIME describes the connected-account stream as chronological and says it can be filtered by Friends, Pages, Groups or all connected accounts.
Feeds is therefore broader than Favorites. It is designed to show the accounts you already connect to rather than introduce recommendation posts, but advertising can still appear in the stream.

Home is the first or starting tab in Facebook’s current design. Meta says Home uses machine-learning ranking and thousands of signals to order content. Those signals can include activity, relationships, content interactions and other personalization inputs. Home can therefore surface creators, Pages or topics you do not deliberately select, making it useful for discovery but less predictable than Feeds.
Favorites vs. Feeds at a glance
| Reader goal | Best view or control | What it changes | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prioritize a hand-picked set of accounts | Favorites inside Feeds | Narrows the source list to accounts you selected. | Favorites does not guarantee every post from those accounts, and the documented limit is up to 30 in the 2022 TIME walkthrough. |
| See recent posts from connected accounts | Feeds | Shows recent posts from friends, Pages, groups and Favorites without “Suggested For You” posts. | Ads can still appear. |
| See only friends’ posts | Feeds, then the Friends filter | Removes Pages and groups from that filtered view. | Facebook’s labels and navigation can differ by app version and account. |
| Discover new creators and interests | Home | Uses personalized, machine-learning ranking and recommendations. | It is not a chronological or recommendation-free view. |
| Reduce an unwanted topic or account | Interested, Not interested, hide, see fewer, snooze or reconnect controls | Changes ranking or mutes and restores sources through Feed Preferences. | “Interested” and “Not interested” are temporary ranking signals, not permanent guarantees. |
Which gives you more control?
Favorites gives more control over the source list
If your question is “Which people, Pages or groups should I prioritize?”, Favorites is the more precise tool. You choose the accounts instead of accepting Facebook’s complete connected-account pool. This is useful when you follow hundreds of accounts but want a small set of family members, colleagues, local organizations or essential Pages near the front of your browsing routine.
The control is selective rather than exhaustive. A favorite account can still have posts that do not appear in the moment you check, and Facebook does not describe Favorites as a guarantee that every post will be shown. Treat it as a priority list, not a complete feed export.
Feeds gives more control over the stream format
If your question is “Can I browse recent posts without Suggested For You recommendations?”, Feeds is the stronger answer. Meta positions Feeds as the place for recent posts from connected accounts and says Suggested For You posts are excluded there. You can then narrow the stream with Friends, Pages, Groups or Favorites filters when those options are available.

Feeds is broader than Favorites because it can include all of your connected accounts. Its advantage is the combination of recency and filtering, not a smaller source list by default.
Neither view is completely free of commercial or ranked content
Meta says ads are included in Feeds. Consequently, switching from Home to Feeds reduces recommendation posts but does not create an ad-free experience. Favorites also operates inside this system; it does not remove ads or turn Facebook into a guaranteed, post-by-post chronological archive.
How to use Feeds and Favorites
Facebook changes navigation labels and rollout details by device, account and app version. The following workflow uses the documented names; if a label is missing, look under the current Menu or profile area for Feed, Feeds or Feed Preferences.
1. Open the Feeds area
- Open Facebook on the web or in the mobile app.
- Open the main Menu or your profile-picture menu.
- Select Feeds if it is shown directly. On some versions it may be grouped with shortcuts or the Home and Feeds tabs.
- Confirm that the stream is showing connected-account posts rather than the recommendation-led Home view.
Feeds is the right starting point when you want recent posts and fewer recommendation inserts. It is also where the Favorites filter is documented to operate.
2. Choose the Favorites filter
- Inside Feeds, look for the filter or account-category row.
- Select Favorites.
- If Facebook offers Manage Favorites or a similar option, open it to edit the list.
- Add the friends, Pages or other eligible accounts you want to prioritize. The 2022 TIME walkthrough reports a maximum of up to 30 favorites; your current interface may enforce a different limit or present different eligible account types.
Use Favorites for a deliberate shortlist, not for every account you follow. A smaller list makes the control meaningful and reduces the need to scan unrelated updates.
3. Use the other Feeds filters
When the filter row is available, select Friends, Pages, Groups or the all-connected-accounts view. This lets you answer narrower questions without changing your Favorites list. For example, Friends is more suitable than Favorites if you want to see posts from all friends rather than only the friends you selected.
4. Return to Home for discovery
Switch back to Home when you want Facebook’s recommendations and a wider range of creators or topics. Home is intentionally less controllable: its ranking is generated from machine-learning systems and many signals rather than only from a list you maintain.

How to see only friends’ posts
Use Feeds, then select the Friends filter when your version provides it. That is more suitable than Favorites for the specific goal of seeing all connected friends, because Favorites is limited to the people you manually select and may also include Pages or groups.
Facebook’s wording matters here. Feeds is described as a stream of recent posts from connected accounts, while the Friends filter narrows the eligible account type. It does not promise an export of every historical post, and it does not remove ads that Facebook inserts into the stream.
If Friends is not visible, check whether the current Feeds interface places filters behind a row that can be swiped horizontally, a filter button or a “See more” control. Meta’s navigation can change without changing the underlying distinction between Home, Feeds and Favorites.
Is Facebook Feeds chronological?
Feeds is designed around recent posts. Meta describes it as the place for the most recent posts from friends, Favorites, Pages and groups, and TIME characterizes the connected-account stream as chronological. That makes Feeds substantially more time-oriented than Home.
“Chronological” should not be read as a promise that the screen is an exhaustive, permanent log. Facebook can still insert ads, and the available filters and presentation can change by account or app version. Favorites is also a selection layer, so it changes which accounts you are browsing rather than guaranteeing that every post from each selected account is present.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →How to stop or reduce Suggested For You posts
Open Feeds instead of Home. Meta specifically says Feeds has no “Suggested For You” posts. This is the cleanest documented way to reduce that particular recommendation format while continuing to browse posts from accounts you connect to.
Home can still be useful for discovery, so there is no need to treat the choice as permanent. Use Feeds for controlled browsing and Home when you intentionally want recommendations.

Controls beyond Favorites and Feeds
Favorites and Feeds determine the broad shape of the stream, but Feed Preferences provides more targeted controls. Meta’s customization guidance, updated March 11, 2025, uses the labels Interested and Not interested; these replaced the earlier “Show more” and “Show less” wording.
Interested
Selecting Interested temporarily increases a post’s ranking score. It is useful when Facebook has underrepresented a topic you want to see more often. Because the effect is temporary, it is a ranking signal rather than a permanent subscription.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Not interested
Selecting Not interested temporarily decreases a post’s ranking score. Use it when a topic is irrelevant or when you want fewer similar recommendations. It reduces ranking priority but does not create a permanent block on all related content.
Hide an individual story
Use the post’s menu to hide a specific story when the problem is limited to one item. This is different from changing your entire Favorites list: it addresses the individual post that is currently in front of you.
See fewer posts from a person, Page or group
When one source is appearing too often, choose the option to see fewer posts from that person, Page or group. This is a source-specific adjustment and is more proportionate than rebuilding your Favorites list for every unwanted account.
Snooze a source
Snooze temporarily mutes a source through Feed Preferences. It is appropriate when you want a time-limited break rather than a permanent change to the relationship or follow status.
Recommended Free Tools
Reconnect a source
Reconnect restores a person, Page or group that you previously reduced or muted. Use it when you realize an earlier preference was too aggressive and you want that source back in your normal browsing experience.
Best Value
Report content
Reporting is the appropriate path for content that violates Facebook’s rules or creates a safety concern. It is separate from ranking controls: Not interested, hiding and seeing fewer posts change what you see, while reporting sends the content for platform review.
Common mistakes and their fixes
Expecting Favorites to show every post
Favorites is a priority list, not a guaranteed complete feed. If a post is missing, check the account’s own profile or page, and remember that the documented feature does not promise exhaustive delivery. Use Feeds and its category filters when recency is more important than a tightly curated list.
Assuming Feeds is ad-free
Meta says ads are included in Feeds. Switching views can remove Suggested For You posts, but it cannot remove advertising from the documented Feeds experience.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Using Favorites when you really want all friends
A Favorites list is intentionally limited and hand-picked. For all friends, use the Friends filter in Feeds. Reserve Favorites for the smaller set you want to prioritize repeatedly.
Looking for 2022 labels in a newer app
The core concepts were introduced in Meta announcements from 2022, while the customization guidance was updated March 11, 2025. Facebook can rename, move or roll out controls differently by app version, device and account. Look for the current Feed Preferences, Favorites, Interested and Not interested labels rather than assuming an older screenshot matches your screen.
Expecting Home to behave like a timeline
Home is recommendation-led and ranked by machine-learning systems. If you want recent connected-account posts, open Feeds; if you want discovery, stay on Home.
Which view should you use in everyday situations?
- Checking family and close contacts: Start with Favorites if you have maintained a short priority list; use Friends when you want the wider friend network.
- Reading recent updates without recommendations: Open Feeds and leave the filter on the connected-account stream or choose a specific category.
- Following a small set of essential Pages or groups: Add eligible accounts to Favorites, then open the Favorites filter.
- Finding new creators or topics: Use Home and accept that ranking and recommendations will shape the order.
- Reducing one repetitive source: Use See fewer, hide or snooze rather than changing every other preference.
- Correcting an earlier mute: Use Reconnect in Feed Preferences.
Meta’s stated purpose for Feeds
When Meta introduced the Feeds tab, CEO Mark Zuckerberg described it as a way to “customize and control your experience further,” as quoted by TIME on July 22, 2022. The division of labor in the current design follows that idea: Home is for discovery, Feeds is for connected-account recency and filtering, and Favorites is for a tighter source selection inside Feeds.
Bottom line for choosing between them
Choose Favorites when the question is “Which accounts do I want to prioritize?” Choose Feeds when the question is “How can I browse recent posts from accounts I already follow without Suggested For You posts?” For the most controlled routine, open Feeds first, use Friends or another category filter when you need a broad slice, and switch to Favorites when you want the narrowest manually selected set. Keep Home for discovery, and use Feed Preferences when a particular topic or account needs a more targeted adjustment.
