To put Facebook on your Windows desktop, right-click an empty area, choose New > Shortcut, enter https://www.facebook.com, and finish the wizard with the name Facebook. You can also create a shortcut from Chrome or install Facebook as an app through Edge.
Create a Facebook shortcut with Windows
This built-in method works in Windows 11 and Windows 10 and creates a link that opens in your default browser. Microsoft’s instructions begin: “Right-click on an empty area of the desktop.”

- Right-click an empty area of the desktop.
- Select New > Shortcut.
- In the location field, enter
https://www.facebook.com, then select Next. - Enter Facebook as the shortcut name and select Finish.
The Facebook icon should now appear on the desktop. Double-click it to open the site. Microsoft’s desktop shortcut instructions cover both Windows versions.

Create a shortcut from Google Chrome
If Facebook is open in Chrome, use Chrome’s website shortcut command:

- Open Facebook in Chrome.
- Select More > Cast, save, and share > Create shortcut.
- Change the shortcut name if desired, then select Create.
Chrome’s website shortcut instructions apply to websites generally; Facebook is one such site.
Install Facebook as an app through Microsoft Edge
Edge offers an app-style option: install the website as an app first, then create its desktop shortcut.

- Open Facebook in Edge.
- Select Settings and more > More tools > Apps > Install this site as an app.
- After installation, open
edge://apps. - Find the Facebook app, select Details, then select Create Desktop shortcut.

Which method should you use?
- Windows shortcut wizard: Choose this for a basic website link that opens in whichever browser is set as default.
- Chrome shortcut: Choose this if you are already using Chrome and want to create the website shortcut there.
- Edge app installation: Choose this if you want Facebook installed as a site app in Edge as well as a desktop shortcut.
Windows 10 support status
The shortcut wizard still applies to Windows 10, but Microsoft says that after October 14, 2025, it no longer provides free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10.
