Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteVerdict: The EZVIZ C3X is a 1080p fixed outdoor Wi‑Fi camera whose main selling point is dual-lens color night vision. EZVIZ says one lens measures brightness while the other captures color, then combines the feeds to produce color footage in low light. That advantage is conditional: in an enclosed warehouse or a moonless, cloud-covered rural scene, the camera can switch to black-and-white for a clearer image.
It is a sensible fit when you need weather resistance, person-and-vehicle shape detection, local microSD recording, Ethernet as a wired alternative, and an integrated siren/strobe. It is a less certain choice if you require independently tested detection accuracy, guaranteed color in total darkness, a particular cloud-storage plan, or a very wide-angle view. The published specifications establish what the camera is designed to do; they do not establish image quality or reliability in your property.

How the dual-lens color night vision works
EZVIZ describes the C3X as using one lens to read ambient brightness and a second lens to capture color information. An algorithm combines those inputs, while infrared illumination supports night viewing without relying on a visible white spotlight. The design is intended to preserve color cues—such as clothing or a vehicle’s paint—when there is still some usable ambient light.
The company reported a 0.005-lux condition in its March 18, 2020 launch announcement, saying the C3X produced color video in that laboratory test. This is a vendor-reported figure, not an independent measurement, and it should not be treated as a promise that every installation will show color at 0.005 lux.
When the image can become black-and-white
EZVIZ explicitly qualifies the color feature. In extreme conditions, including a completely enclosed warehouse or a rural area on a moonless, cloudy night, the camera may switch to black-and-white mode to maintain clarity. A buyer should therefore treat color night vision as a low-light capability rather than an always-on mode. Nearby street lighting, porch lights, reflective surfaces, weather, lens cleanliness, and the camera’s viewing direction can all change the available light.

What the published information does not establish
No independent image-quality test, night-scene comparison, detection-accuracy rate, or long-term reliability result is established here. The 1080p label tells you the maximum frame dimensions, not how clearly a face or license plate will appear at a particular distance. Mounting height, angle, motion, and lighting will matter as much as the nominal resolution.
Detection, alerts, and active defense
The C3X is specified for person- and vehicle-shape detection rather than a generic motion trigger alone. You can define detection zones so that activity in a driveway, gate, or path receives attention while movement in a road or tree line is excluded. The manufacturer describes these as product features; published material does not provide an independent false-alert rate or recognition accuracy.
Using detection zones effectively
- Mount the camera so the area of interest occupies a meaningful portion of the frame instead of the far edge.
- In the EZVIZ app, open the camera’s detection settings and draw a zone around the approach, door, driveway, or other area you want monitored.
- Exclude sources of predictable movement, such as a public road, swaying vegetation, or a reflective window, where the app permits.
- Run the configuration for several day and night cycles, then adjust the zone if notifications are too frequent or miss the approach you care about.
The camera also has a siren and strobe for active defense. Because an audible or flashing response can disturb neighbors or attract attention, enable it only where local rules and your household’s needs permit. Decide whether the deterrent should be manual, schedule-based, or tied to a detection event using the controls available in your current app version.
Two-way talk
Two-way audio lets a person at the camera and a viewer in the app speak through the device. It can be useful for addressing a delivery or warning someone away without opening a door. The supplied specifications do not state microphone or speaker loudness, noise suppression, or an independent audio-quality result, so those factors should be verified in your installation.
Lens choices and viewing position
EZVIZ lists 2.8 mm and 4 mm lens options with different stated viewing angles. The exact lens and field of view can vary by regional model, so confirm the specification of the unit sold in your market before ordering or drilling. A wider lens generally covers more area at close range, while a narrower option can place a distant doorway or gate larger in the frame; the correct choice depends on the distance and width of the scene you need to monitor.

Mounting decisions that affect useful detail
- Place the camera high enough to discourage tampering but not so high that faces are seen only from above.
- Avoid pointing directly toward the rising or setting sun, which can produce glare and silhouettes.
- Keep the intended subject away from the extreme edge of the frame, where perspective and available detail are less favorable.
- Leave access to the microSD slot and reset or service points if your installation will use local recording.
- Use the supplied waterproof kit at the cable connection; an IP67 camera body does not automatically make an exposed connector weatherproof.
Network, power, and regional model requirements
The US product information identifies regional model numbers: CS-CV310-C0-6B22WFR for Europe, CS-CV310-C1-6B22WFR for the Americas, and CS-CV310-C3-6B22WFR for APAC. Match the model and power adapter to your market rather than assuming that a listing from another region is electrically or radio-compliant where you live.
Wi‑Fi operation is limited to 2.4 GHz. Before installation, check that your router broadcasts a 2.4 GHz network and that the camera’s mounting point receives a stable signal. If the location is at the edge of coverage, the 10/100 Ethernet port provides a wired alternative, but you will need a network cable routed to the camera and suitable weather protection for the run.
The camera uses 12 V DC power and the package includes a 1.5 m power adapter. Plan the cable route before fixing the bracket: the adapter must reach a protected outlet, and outdoor connections should be kept out of standing water. Do not substitute a power supply unless its voltage, polarity, connector, and current rating are confirmed compatible.

Storage: microSD, cloud, and NVR
The C3X supports three recording destinations: a microSD card, EZVIZ cloud storage, and an EZVIZ NVR. EZVIZ says recordings may be saved in all three locations at once. That gives you a choice between a self-contained camera, a cloud-assisted setup, and a recorder-centered system.
Choosing a microSD card
The camera’s published limit is 256 GB. EZVIZ support recommends a Class 10 or UHS-I card. The card is not listed as a universal guarantee for every brand or model, so confirm current compatibility before buying a specific card.
| Card capacity | Filesystem guidance from EZVIZ support | Practical action |
|---|---|---|
| Under 64 GB | FAT32 | Format or initialize the card as FAT32 if it is not already configured that way. |
| 64 GB or higher | exFAT | Use exFAT, staying within the camera’s 256 GB published maximum. |
Insert the card with the camera powered down when practical, then use the app’s initialization command rather than assuming a computer format is sufficient. Initialization erases existing content, so copy anything important before proceeding.
Cloud and NVR considerations
EZVIZ states that cloud service is available only in certain markets. Availability, retention, pricing, and account requirements can change by region and date, so check the current terms for your location before choosing cloud as your primary archive. An EZVIZ NVR can centralize recordings from compatible cameras, but the published C3X material does not specify recorder capacity, retention time, or a particular NVR model.

Installing the C3X
The package contents listed by EZVIZ are the camera, drill template, screw kit, waterproof kit, 1.5 m power adapter, and quick-start guide. Have a drill, a suitable network cable if you will use Ethernet, and a phone with the current EZVIZ app ready before climbing or routing cable.
- Confirm the regional unit. Check the model identifier, 12 V DC adapter, and local network requirements against your market.
- Choose the viewpoint. Use the 2.8 mm or 4 mm option appropriate to the distance and width of the scene, and verify that the lens specification matches the unit you received.
- Test connectivity at the proposed location. Confirm 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi coverage, or plan an Ethernet run. A strong signal at the door may not mean a strong signal at the eaves.
- Mark and drill. Hold the drill template against a structurally sound surface, drill the marked holes, and fit the supplied anchors and screws as appropriate for that surface.
- Route and seal the cable. Keep the power connection sheltered, install the waterproof kit, and avoid sharp bends or low points where water can collect.
- Power the camera and add it in the app. Follow the current in-app pairing flow. Grant only the permissions needed for setup and notifications.
- Set the view and detection zone. Adjust the camera physically first, then draw the software zone around the area that matters.
- Configure recording. Insert and initialize a compatible microSD card, add an NVR if you use one, and review cloud availability and terms in your region.
- Test day and night behavior. Walk through the monitored area, check alerts and two-way talk, and verify whether the scene remains in color or changes to black-and-white in darkness.
MicroSD troubleshooting
If the app does not recognize a card or recording stops, EZVIZ support recommends a short sequence of checks:
- Update the camera firmware and the EZVIZ app.
- Power down the camera when safe, remove and reseat the microSD card, and restart.
- Confirm that the card is Class 10 or UHS-I and does not exceed 256 GB.
- Check the filesystem: FAT32 for cards under 64 GB and exFAT for cards of 64 GB or more.
- Use the app to initialize the card. Save any needed footage first because initialization erases recordings.
- If the problem persists, test with a currently compatible card rather than assuming every card with the same capacity is supported.
Strengths and limitations
Reasons to consider it
- Dual-lens color night vision is the C3X’s distinctive feature and can preserve color information in suitable low-light scenes.
- 1080p recording, person/vehicle shape detection, zones, two-way talk, and siren/strobe cover the core functions expected from an outdoor camera.
- Local microSD storage up to 256 GB avoids making a cloud account the only recording path.
- Cloud and EZVIZ NVR support allow a more redundant arrangement, including simultaneous destinations according to the product page.
- 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi improves compatibility with many older networks, while Ethernet gives you a wired option.
- IP67 construction and the stated −30 °C to 60 °C operating range suit many outdoor installations when the cable and power connection are installed correctly.
Reasons to be cautious
- The camera is 1080p, so it does not provide the extra pixel detail of a higher-resolution model.
- Color night vision is conditional and may become monochrome in extreme darkness.
- The 0.005-lux figure is a 2020 EZVIZ laboratory claim, not an independent field measurement.
- No published independent result establishes detection accuracy, false-alert performance, audio quality, or long-term durability.
- Only 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi is specified; a 5 GHz-only network will not pair directly.
- Cloud service is market-dependent, and the old no-subscription notification statement should not be read as a current promise about all cloud features.
- The exact field of view depends on the 2.8 mm or 4 mm lens and the regional variant.
Who should buy the EZVIZ C3X?
Choose it when your priority is a conventional outdoor camera with local recording, a wired-network fallback, and the possibility of color footage at night without a visible spotlight. It is especially appealing for a driveway, entrance, or side path where person and vehicle alerts and a deterrent siren are useful.
Look for another type of camera if your decision depends on independently verified recognition at long distances, guaranteed color under virtually no ambient light, a specified wide-angle field of view, 5 GHz-only networking, or a documented current cloud plan in your country. Those requirements are not established by the C3X specifications alone.
How to compare it with other cameras
When evaluating a genuine alternative, compare the parts of the installation that determine whether a specification helps you:
| Comparison question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| How does the camera perform in your actual low-light scene? | Color claims are conditional; a porch, alley, warehouse, and rural yard provide different ambient light. |
| What field of view and mounting distance are available? | A lens that works for a narrow gate may leave a nearby yard uncovered, while a wide view can make distant subjects smaller. |
| Can you use local storage? | Check card limits, filesystem, recorder support, and whether cloud access is optional in your market. |
| How are alerts controlled? | Look for person/vehicle filtering, zones, schedules, and controls for siren or strobe activation. |
| Can you supply network and power at the mount? | Confirm radio band, Ethernet availability, voltage, cable length, and weather sealing before purchase. |
| What evidence supports image and detection quality? | Separate manufacturer specifications from independent tests carried out in comparable conditions. |
Final assessment
The EZVIZ C3X’s identity is clear: it is a 1080p outdoor camera built around manufacturer-described dual-lens color night vision, with practical recording and networking choices. Its strongest case is a correctly mounted entrance or driveway where 2.4 GHz coverage or Ethernet is available and a microSD card provides local recording. Its main qualification is equally clear: color is not guaranteed in extreme darkness, and the available evidence does not independently verify image quality or detection accuracy.
Before ordering, verify the regional model, lens option, 12 V adapter, network path, cloud availability, and current microSD compatibility. If those conditions match your installation and you value color information in ordinary low light, the C3X is a defensible choice. If they do not, its headline feature should not outweigh the fit of the camera to your scene.
