Eye-Fi Card Not Connecting? How to Troubleshoot Wireless Photo Transfers

An Eye-Fi card that will not connect may be disabled in the camera, waiting for a photo, missing a saved Wi-Fi destination, or struggling with a weak signal. But there is an important limit: Eye-Fi wireless support and some services these cards relied on were discontinued years ago. Check the camera and network first; if wireless transfer still fails, copy readable files with a compatible card reader rather than assuming a setting or app reinstall can restore the retired service.

1. Check the camera’s Eye-Fi setting and status

Start with the camera, not the Wi-Fi router. Look for a setting named Eye-Fi, Eye-Fi Upload, or a similar wireless-card control, and make sure it is enabled. The exact menu and transfer action vary by camera model, so use the manual for your camera rather than following another model’s button sequence.

  • Casio: Some models begin communication after you take a picture. On models where the option is in playback, select it and press SET to start transfer. Casio states, “Eye-Fi communication starts after you shoot an image.” Casio support FAQ.
  • Sony DSC-H400: Its guide distinguishes standby, upload standby, connecting, uploading, and error icons. An icon can show that the camera is waiting rather than actively transferring. Sony DSC-H400 Help Guide.
  • Nikon D850: Its indicators distinguish disabled, enabled with no pending photos, waiting, transferring, and camera/card error states. The camera’s airplane-mode setting can also disable Eye-Fi upload. Nikon D850 manual.

These are examples, not universal instructions: a status icon or menu action on one camera may mean something different on another.

2. Confirm the card has a destination and usable signal

An enabled camera setting does not configure the card itself. The Eye-Fi card must already have the relevant access point or transfer direction saved. Check that the intended access point and receiving device are powered on and reachable, then move the camera closer to the access point if reception may be weak. Sony warns that “Wireless LAN communication may be interrupted by other communication devices.” Sony DSC-H400 Help Guide.

Also check camera-specific restrictions, such as airplane mode, that may prevent wireless upload even when the Eye-Fi control appears enabled. The Nikon D850 manual documents this behavior; other cameras may use different controls. Nikon D850 manual.

3. Let the camera finish what it is doing

Some cameras defer wireless communication while writing an image, recording video, or carrying out another operation. Finish the current capture or recording, leave the camera powered on, and give pending photos time to transfer. The Eye-Fi Pro X2 guide instructs users to keep the camera on until transfer is complete. Eye-Fi Pro X2 guide.

5. Know when wireless troubleshooting has reached its limit

SanDisk’s Eye-Fi SD Card End of Support notice says Eye-Fi announced on June 30, 2016 that it would no longer support several products, including SanDisk Eye-Fi SD cards. The notice, published September 13, 2022 and updated November 6, 2025, says customers should have ceased wireless use no later than September 16, 2016 because some dependent services would be shut down.

  • ABS Material: Wifi adapter is made of sturdy ABS material, which is wear and durable, and can be used for a long time.
  • Applicable Devices: Wifi adapter can connect up to 3 devices at the same time, support for Android, for IOS devices.

This is a major reason an old card can fail even when its camera setting and local Wi-Fi seem correct. The notice establishes that support ended and dependent services were slated for shutdown; it does not establish that every card, app, or local direct-transfer mode stopped working identically on the same day. Still, a local settings change or app reinstall cannot restore a discontinued service.

6. Retrieve readable photos with a wired reader

If wireless transfer is unavailable, a USB SD card reader is a practical way to copy files that remain readable. Check that the reader supports the card’s format and that its connector works with the computer or mobile device you plan to use. The Eye-Fi Pro X2 guide describes using a USB reader for card setup, while SanDisk’s support notice documents the end of wireless support. Eye-Fi Pro X2 guide; SanDisk support notice.

A reader provides wired access; it does not repair a damaged card or bring Eye-Fi’s retired wireless services back. If the card shows errors, prioritize preserving its contents before formatting or attempting further changes.
