Exzisus Arcade Archives is scheduled for November 5, 2026, so its final button assignments, supported controllers, menu labels and display controls are not confirmed yet. The release is reported for PlayStation, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch. Until the official game manual and store pages are published, troubleshoot by separating the problem into three layers: the physical controller, the console’s input mapping and the game’s own options. Use the title-specific instructions after launch rather than guessing arcade buttons.
This guide gives you a safe workflow for launch day, including the one documented console workaround currently available: Nintendo Switch system-level button remapping.

What is confirmed about the Exzisus release
Exzisus is Taito’s 1987 arcade shooter. Time Extension reports that its Arcade Archives edition is scheduled for November 5, 2026 on PlayStation, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch. See the announcement at Time Extension.

That announcement does not establish the game’s final control layout, button names, controller compatibility list, title-menu route, aspect-ratio choices or screen-filter options. Those details may differ by platform and can change before release. Treat any pre-release control diagram or menu path that is not in the official Exzisus manual as provisional.

Start by identifying the troubleshooting layer
A controller that works in the console dashboard but not in the game has a different cause from a controller that fails everywhere. Likewise, a picture that is cropped on one television may be a television-size setting rather than an Arcade Archives setting. Write down the platform, controller and exact symptom before changing anything.
Record the platform and controller
- Platform: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation or Xbox Series.
- Controller type: the console’s standard controller, a Joy-Con pair, a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller or another officially recognized input device.
- Connection: wired, wireless or attached directly to the console.
- Game state: whether the controller works in the console home screen and in another game.
- Display path: television or monitor, direct connection or an intervening receiver, and whether other games show the same problem.
This inventory prevents a platform-specific fix from being applied to the wrong input device. It also gives support staff enough information to distinguish a title problem from a console or accessory problem.
Describe the symptom precisely
“The controls do not work” can mean several different things. Note whether no button is recognized, only one action is wrong, the character moves continuously, a menu selection repeats, or the game responds but feels delayed. For display problems, distinguish a black screen, no signal, incorrect scaling, cropping, stretching, flicker, a persistent border, or an image that is simply too dim. Capture a photograph or short video if the symptom is intermittent.
Controller troubleshooting before changing mappings
1. Confirm that the console sees the controller
- Return to the console home screen without closing the game if possible.
- Open a system menu that requires directional input and verify that the same controller can move a selection and confirm it.
- If the console does not respond, reconnect or re-pair the controller using the console’s normal procedure, then test again outside Exzisus.
- For a detachable or wireless device, check that it has charge and that no second controller is taking priority.
If the controller fails in the dashboard, do not begin by changing Exzisus controls. Resolve the console-level connection first. If it works in the dashboard and another game but fails only in Exzisus, continue with the title’s manual and options screen once the release is available.
2. Read the Exzisus manual and options screen
Arcade Archives titles normally provide title-specific information in an in-game manual or an options area, but the exact location and wording are not confirmed for Exzisus. After launch, look for entries that describe controls, button assignment, rapid fire, difficulty, display or restore defaults. Record the original assignment before changing it so you can undo an experiment.

Do not assume that an arcade cabinet’s physical labels map directly to the modern controller’s face buttons. Do not assume that the PlayStation, Xbox Series and Switch editions use identical labels or that an option shown in another Arcade Archives title appears in Exzisus.
3. Test one change at a time
Change a single control or setting, return to gameplay and test the same action. If several assignments are changed together, it becomes difficult to tell which change solved the problem or created a new one. If the menu offers a restore-defaults command, use it when an experiment leaves the game in an unusable state, then make one measured change.

Nintendo Switch: use system remapping only as a fallback
Nintendo documents system-level remapping for Joy-Con (L), Joy-Con (R) and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. The published route is System Settings > Controllers and Sensors > Change Button Mapping. The full instructions are on Nintendo Support.
What Switch remapping can and cannot do
- It changes how the Switch interprets the selected controller’s buttons at the system level.
- It is useful when a physical button is uncomfortable, inaccessible or difficult to reach.
- It does not prove that Exzisus has an in-game remapping menu.
- It does not change the game’s displayed instruction labels; the on-screen prompt may still show the original assignment.
- It does not establish that every third-party controller works with the Exzisus edition.
Apply the remap only after confirming the default Exzisus layout. Keep a written note or screenshot of the original mapping. If another game becomes confusing afterward, return to the same Switch menu and restore the controller’s default configuration.
Diagnose a Switch-only input problem
- Test the controller on the Switch home screen.
- Launch another game and verify directional input and the main action buttons.
- Open Exzisus’s manual or options screen and compare the documented assignment with your physical buttons.
- If the game works but a particular assignment is impractical, use the Nintendo system remapping route.
- Retest the game, then test the home screen and another game so you know exactly which controller profile is active.
If the game ignores a remapped button while the console and other software respond correctly, record the controller model, Switch system version and Exzisus version. That behavior may require a title update or an official support response rather than another remap.

PlayStation and Xbox Series input troubleshooting
The available pre-release information does not confirm Exzisus-specific menu paths or button assignments for PlayStation or Xbox Series. Use the same layer-by-layer method without assuming that a Switch instruction or an arcade-control diagram applies to these editions.
Console-level checks
- Verify the controller operates in the console dashboard.
- Reconnect it using the platform’s normal wired or wireless process.
- Disconnect additional controllers or input devices temporarily to eliminate profile conflicts.
- Test another game before launching Exzisus again.
Game-level checks
Once Exzisus is installed, open its manual and options screen and look for the control description and any assignment or reset command. Use the exact labels shown by your edition. If a menu selection cannot be confirmed from the title’s documentation, do not rely on a control scheme copied from another platform.
When the dashboard works but Exzisus does not
Close and relaunch the game after confirming the controller profile. If the issue persists, try the title’s default control configuration, then test with the console’s standard controller if one is available. This comparison helps determine whether the failure follows the game, the controller or a specific profile. Preserve the game version and the exact steps that reproduce the fault before contacting platform or publisher support.
Display troubleshooting: separate game, console and television settings
HAMSTER’s general Arcade Archives description says that settings such as difficulty can be customized and that some titles can recreate a CRT-style presentation. That is series-level information, not confirmation that Exzisus includes a particular CRT filter, aspect-ratio switch, border layout or screen-position control. 1. Decide which layer is producing the picture
- Game layer: an Exzisus option may control the game window, filter, orientation or border, if that edition provides one.
- Console-output layer: the console may be sending a resolution or signal format that the display handles differently.
- Television or monitor layer: picture-size, overscan, zoom, aspect-ratio and position controls can crop or stretch an otherwise correct signal.
Change only one layer at a time. If the console dashboard and other games are also cropped, start with the television or console output. If only Exzisus is affected, inspect the game’s documented display options first.

2. Correct a cropped or stretched image
- Open the Exzisus manual or options screen and note the default display mode.
- Restore the game’s display defaults if you previously changed a filter, size or position control.
- On the television or monitor, disable temporary zoom or cinema modes and choose the normal picture-size mode.
- Check whether overscan or “screen fit” controls are cutting off the edges.
- Return to the console’s standard output configuration and retest before trying a different resolution.
- Compare the same display with another game. A system-wide crop points away from Exzisus and toward the output or television settings.
Do not stretch a 4:3 arcade image merely to fill a widescreen panel unless you prefer that presentation. If the game provides a border or CRT-style option, compare it with the default mode and keep the setting that preserves readable text and the full playfield.
3. Correct a black screen or “no signal” state
- Exit to the console dashboard and confirm that the display returns normally.
- Check the input selected on the television or monitor and reseat the video cable at both ends.
- Test another game to determine whether the signal failure is system-wide.
- Restart the console and launch Exzisus again.
- If only Exzisus fails, record the display mode selected in the game and the console’s output setting rather than repeatedly changing both.
A television that loses signal only when the game starts may be reacting to a mode change. The correct response depends on the final platform implementation, so use the published manual and platform support guidance after release.
4. Correct flicker, dimness or an unreadable filter
First disable any optional visual filter in the game, if one is documented, and return the television’s picture controls to a neutral mode. Then compare the image with another game and with the console dashboard. If text remains unreadable only in Exzisus, photograph the screen and include the display model, connection path and selected game settings in a support report. Avoid claiming that a CRT filter is defective when the title may simply be using a different presentation mode by design.

How to prepare before November 5, 2026
Because the announced date is still ahead, the most useful preparation is documentation rather than guessing. Bookmark the eventual official Exzisus store listing and manual for your platform. At launch, verify the edition, regional availability and any version number shown by the store before following a platform-specific guide.

When to stop troubleshooting and report a defect
Escalate the issue when the controller works in the dashboard and other games, the title is updated, the documented defaults have been restored and the same fault still occurs. A useful report includes:
- Platform and regional edition.
- Game version and console system version.
- Controller model and connection method.
- Exact sequence that reproduces the issue.
- Whether the problem appears in the title menu, gameplay, pause screen or only after changing an option.
- Display model, cable path, selected output mode and a photograph or video when the issue is visual.
Do not describe a missing option as a bug until the Exzisus manual confirms that the option should exist. Arcade Archives features vary by title, and a setting documented for one release may not be included in another.

Until those details are published, the reliable answer is a troubleshooting method: prove the controller works at the console level, use the title’s own documentation for Exzisus settings, and treat television controls as a separate display layer.
