Exposed Hacker Server Reveals Toolkit Used in Viva Aerobus-Linked Intrusion

An exposed server reportedly used by an attacker has revealed credential-harvesting tools and material gathered during an intrusion linked by threat-intelligence firm ThreatMon to a Viva Aerobus-side environment. The reporting describes an attack path through Microsoft SQL Server and preparation for broader access—but it does not confirm successful movement to other systems or theft of sensitive passenger or payment data.

What the exposed server revealed

ThreatMon says its threat-intelligence team found an attacker-controlled staging and loot server at 151.243.232.123. The server reportedly lacked authentication or effective access controls and stored both attacker tools and collected material. ThreatMon dates the activity it analyzed to September 25–29, 2026. ThreatMon’s incident analysis and GBHackers’ coverage describe the incident; the linkage to Viva Aerobus is based on ThreatMon’s reporting, not an airline confirmation cited here.

The server’s exposure created a second security concern: unrelated internet hosts reportedly enumerated its directories soon after the victim-side system retrieved a payload. In other words, information gathered by the attacker may also have been visible to other parties.

How the reported intrusion worked

SQL Server provided an execution route

The reported activity centered on Microsoft SQL Server’s xp_cmdshell, an extended stored procedure that can execute operating-system commands when enabled. ThreatMon says a victim-side SQL Server retrieved a payload at 16:20 on September 25. Recovered tools were designed to issue Windows commands and Base64-encoded PowerShell through an MSSQL session.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The presence of xp_cmdshell in the account does not mean it is enabled by default in every SQL Server deployment. Its availability and risk depend on configuration, permissions, and the privileges of the SQL Server service account.

Tools focused on credentials and follow-on access

ThreatMon reported a toolkit that included scripts for credential discovery, credential testing, and file transfer. The named files included chrome_dump.ps1, cred_dump.ps1, and cred_enum.ps1, as well as sqlspray.ps1, mssqltest.ps1, exfil.py, and upload.py. The report also describes Mimikatz artifacts, targeting of Windows Credential Manager and Vault, browser-credential access, and attempts to recover DPAPI-protected material.

These tools and artifacts indicate capability and intent, not proof that every operation succeeded. ThreatMon counted 17 named post-exploitation tools and mapped eight MITRE ATT&CK techniques in its account of this incident; those figures describe its reporting, not a general measure of the attack’s scope.

SSMS history could point toward other systems

Recovered SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) user-settings data reportedly contained previously used server references, database usernames, and DPAPI-protected saved-password material. Such history can expose useful clues about an organization’s database environment even when a saved password itself is protected. ThreatMon says the attackers also collected source-code and configuration material that referenced SQL, OAuth, mail, SFTP, payment, and reporting integrations; it withheld sensitive values.

What the evidence does—and does not—establish

ThreatMon’s account supports the use of an MSSQL execution path, credential-access activity, collection of SSMS metadata and configuration or source-code material, attempted credential testing, and preparation for MSSQL or SMB access. It also reports unrelated hosts accessing the exposed attacker server.

It does not establish that the attackers successfully reached additional systems or exfiltrated sensitive passenger, payment, or comparable business data. The incident should therefore not be described as a confirmed passenger-data breach or confirmed wider compromise on the evidence cited here. ThreatMon says it withheld victim-specific hostnames, usernames, and sensitive credential material. The report contains no attributed quotation from a named individual; its central qualification is that evidence supports credential harvesting and preparation for lateral movement, but not confirmed access to additional systems.

Why the attacker’s exposed server matters

ThreatMon’s timeline says an unrelated external host began enumerating the server and loot directories at 16:21–16:23 on September 25, shortly after the payload retrieval at 16:20. Other hosts reportedly accessed tools or loot at 18:04–18:05. That sequence suggests the staging server’s lack of access controls may have exposed attacker-held material beyond the original operator. It does not, by itself, identify who accessed it or prove what any visitor downloaded.

  • Search historical network logs for connections to 151.243.232.123, and endpoint records for the listed hashes and working directory.
  • Review SQL Server and endpoint telemetry for unexpected xp_cmdshell use, particularly when followed by cmd.exe, PowerShell, encoded commands, or unusual file activity under the SQL Server service account.
  • Disable xp_cmdshell where it is not required. Where it is required, review who can invoke it, the service account’s privileges, and the server’s outbound network access.
  • Handle SSMS saved connections, connection history, usernames, and protected saved-password material as sensitive credential-adjacent information when investigating exposure.
  • Rotate credentials or secrets known to have reached exposed attacker infrastructure, then check whether they were reused in other systems.
