Short answer: Square Enix has not publicly explained Cid’s chest-hair situation in FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION. The question is fair game for a playful character-design debate, but there is no confirmed removal, censorship decision, or stated redesign to report.
What Square Enix has—and hasn’t—said
Square Enix’s June 9, 2026 announcement identifies Cid Highwind as a playable, cantankerous pilot and describes his combat style: quick lance strikes against single targets and sweeping attacks against groups. It does not discuss his chest hair or explain any decision about his appearance.

The official FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH character profile describes Cid as an independent pilot who runs a transport service from abandoned airfields, flies the Tiny Bronco, and helps Cloud’s party travel. That profile likewise says nothing about chest hair. So there is no official answer to whether the detail was removed, obscured, or simply never made part of this portrayal.

REVELATION is announced as the third and final entry in the FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE series, with a Spring 2027 launch planned for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. In an interview published October 2, 2026, director Naoki Hamaguchi said the game revisits Rocket Town, Cid’s relationship with Shera, the rocket launch, and space travel, giving players more opportunity to explore Cid’s inner world.

That makes the character’s presentation especially noticeable to fans looking ahead to his expanded story. But Hamaguchi’s comments concern Cid’s narrative, not his body or character-model design; they cannot be taken as an explanation for the missing—or not visible—detail.

Those are possibilities a player might wonder about when comparing portrayals, but none is established by the cited official material. Without a clear visual comparison and a direct production comment, it would be speculation to say Square Enix deliberately removed Cid’s chest hair, covered it up, or changed his design for a particular reason.
