Everdure’s published specifications point to generous capacity: 3,270 cm² (506.85 in²) of grill space and a rotisserie rated for 40 kg (88.18 lb). The manufacturer says ignition can take under 10 minutes, or under nine minutes in the quick guide using up to 1.8 kg of lump charcoal, but both statements are qualified by fuel and weather conditions and are not independent test results. Whether the HUB is worth buying therefore depends on how much you value integrated electric ignition and a large rotisserie station over portability, simplicity and lower purchase cost.

What the Everdure HUB actually is
The HUB is an electrically ignited charcoal grill. Its heating element starts charcoal; it is not a gas burner, and there is no claim that it can cook without charcoal. Once the coals are ready, the food is cooked by charcoal heat and smoke in the normal way. The electric system also supplies power to the dedicated rotisserie motor.

The dimensions describe the grill itself, not the clearance needed to work around it. Leave room to open the lid, load charcoal, handle a hot rotisserie and route the power cord without creating a trip hazard. Measure gates, doorways, stairs and the final cooking position before delivery; at 74 kg, moving it is a two-person or equipment job rather than a casual carry.
How the electric ignition works
The 1,400 W element is intended to light charcoal quickly. Everdure states that ignition takes less than 10 minutes, while its HUB quick guide references less than nine minutes with up to 1.8 kg of lump charcoal. These are manufacturer guidance figures, not controlled independent tests. Charcoal type, how it is arranged, wind, ambient temperature and moisture can change the result.
Fuel choice matters
Everdure recommends natural lump charcoal for the best results. Briquettes can be used, but the company says it cannot guarantee an exact ignition time because briquette ingredients vary. That qualification matters if you are buying the HUB primarily to avoid the waiting and variability associated with lighting charcoal: the electric element reduces the lighting step, but it cannot make every fuel behave identically.
A practical start-up sequence
- Place the HUB outdoors on a stable, level surface with the lid and cooking area clear.
- Arrange the recommended natural lump charcoal in the firebox, staying within the guide’s reference quantity of up to 1.8 kg for ignition.
- Connect the grill to a suitable mains outlet and activate the ignition according to the regional instructions.
- Watch the charcoal rather than relying only on the clock. Wind, damp fuel and briquette composition can extend the lighting period.
- Once the coals are ready for cooking, disconnect the ignition as directed and cook using the charcoal bed. Use the rotisserie motor only when the food is securely mounted and balanced.
The published “under 10 minutes” language should be read as an operating claim under suitable conditions, not a promise that every load will be ready in that time. No independent timing or comparative test is publicly established here.
Cooking area and rotisserie capacity
With 3,270 cm² (506.85 in²) of listed cooking area, the HUB is aimed at group cooking rather than a small household grill. The open left and right grills provide the stated surface, while the lid allows covered cooking. The specification does not by itself establish how evenly heat is distributed or how many particular steaks, chickens or trays will fit; those outcomes depend on food size, charcoal layout and cooking method.

The rotisserie is rated by Everdure for 40 kg (88.18 lb), an unusually high headline capacity for a domestic appliance. The rating is a maximum equipment specification, not a recommendation to load any shape or food to that weight. Balance the load, secure it with the four CLIPLOCK forks and follow the operating instructions. A long, uneven or poorly balanced item can stress the motor even when its total weight is below the rating.
Three manual height positions
The HUB provides three discrete rotisserie heights selected manually. Height changes therefore require you to stop, handle the assembly safely and choose one of the available positions; it is not a continuously powered adjustment. The appropriate level depends on the food’s diameter and the heat from the charcoal. Keep enough clearance for the food to rotate without touching the grills, lid or sides.

HUB versus HUB II: the differences that affect a buying decision
HUB II is not merely a color name for the same product. Everdure describes it with electronic rotisserie height adjustment, a telescoping slide-out shelf and titanium finishings. The original HUB uses manual, three-position height adjustment. Those changes matter most if you frequently alter cooking height, need a serving or prep surface, or prefer the HUB II’s finish.

Choose the HUB when manual height control and the original finish meet your needs and the local price is meaningfully lower. Consider HUB II when electronic adjustment, the slide-out shelf or titanium details solve a specific workflow problem. Do not assume that a HUB II listing has the same dimensions, included parts, electrical requirements or warranty as the EHUB1B; check its own regional documentation.

Size, placement and electrical requirements
The HUB is 1,387 mm wide and 591 mm deep with the grills installed. It stands 900 mm high with the poles lowered and 1,223 mm with them raised. The 74 kg net weight and broad footprint require a planned outdoor location, not an improvised balcony corner or indoor kitchen.

Outdoor-only use
Everdure states that the HUB must not be used indoors. Charcoal combustion produces heat and combustion gases, and the appliance is designed for outdoor ventilation. Place it where smoke and heat will not enter doors, windows or enclosed structures, and follow local fire-clearance rules.
Power and extension cords
The ignition element and rotisserie motor need mains power. Everdure’s FAQ allows an outdoor-rated 10 A extension cord up to 10 m, provided it is suitable for the installation. Never use an extension cord in rain, inspect it for damage and keep connections away from water. Disconnect the grill from power after use. Electrical compatibility is market-specific, so verify the outlet, plug and voltage requirements for your country before purchase.
Cleaning, storage and routine care
Charcoal cooking still creates ash, grease and residue. After the HUB has cooled completely, Everdure recommends mild detergent, warm water and a soft cloth or non-abrasive scourer. Avoid aggressive abrasives that could damage the finish.
- Do not put the grills, rotisserie rod or forks in a dishwasher.
- Remove residue only after all components are cool enough to handle safely.
- Disconnect power after each use, even if the ignition was used only briefly.
- For outdoor storage, keep the grill under cover and use a purpose-made HUB cover as recommended by the manufacturer.
- Before the next cook, check that the rotisserie rod, forks, grills and electrical cord are clean, dry and correctly fitted.
The care guidance supports a manageable maintenance routine, but it does not establish that the grill is unusually easy to clean. Ash removal, grease management and cover use remain normal responsibilities of a large charcoal appliance.

Price and warranty: how to interpret the public listing
CHOICE’s public listing identifies the product as an electric/charcoal grill and gives AUD 2,199 for its tested model. That is an Australia-specific reference, not a universal or necessarily current global price. Currency, taxes, retailer stock, delivery and model code can all change the amount you see at checkout.

The HUB makes the strongest case for buyers who want charcoal flavor and a substantial rotisserie but dislike lighting charcoal manually. The integrated element removes the need for a separate chimney starter or firelighter, and the freestanding station provides a large working area for entertaining. The high rotisserie rating also gives the design flexibility for large roasts, subject to safe balancing and clearance.
The trade-offs are equally concrete. You need a permanent or semi-permanent outdoor location, access to a suitable electrical outlet and space for a 1,387 mm-wide, 74 kg appliance. You still buy, store and clean charcoal, remove ash and manage flare-ups. Mains power is required for the ignition system and rotisserie, so a power failure does not turn it into a conventional fully independent charcoal setup for those functions. The price and warranty also need to be evaluated in your local market rather than copied from an Australian listing.
The HUB is a good fit when
- You regularly cook for several people and have room for a wide freestanding grill.
- You specifically want charcoal cooking rather than gas or an electric-only barbecue.
- Electric ignition is worth paying for because you want a simpler start-up routine.
- You use a rotisserie often and can work within three manual height positions.
- You can provide safe outdoor storage, a suitable outlet and cover protection.
Look elsewhere when
- Your patio, balcony or storage route cannot accommodate the footprint and 74 kg weight.
- You need an indoor appliance, a gas-only workflow or a grill that works without charcoal.
- You want continuously adjustable or electronically controlled rotisserie height; that is a HUB II feature.

Does the HUB use gas?
No. It uses charcoal for cooking and a 1,400 W electric element for ignition. Calling it a gas grill would misdescribe the product.

How long does it take to light?
Everdure publishes an under-10-minute claim and a quick-guide reference of under nine minutes with up to 1.8 kg of lump charcoal. The company also says fuel and external conditions affect timing, so there is no universal guaranteed duration.
What charcoal should you use?
Natural lump charcoal is Everdure’s recommendation. Briquettes are allowed, but their ingredients vary and the manufacturer does not guarantee the same ignition time.
Can it be used indoors?
No. The manufacturer says the HUB must be used outdoors.
Is 40 kg a practical rotisserie load?
