EverBank lists 4.20% APY on all balances as of October 9, 2026, but the bank says that displayed rate is for new accounts and may not apply to existing customers. The account also has no ATM card, so it is better suited to money you move electronically than to cash you expect to withdraw at a branch or machine.
The practical decision is therefore not just whether 4.20% looks attractive. You need to weigh the dated, variable and new-account-only rate against access, transaction fees, your need for immediate cash and whether a term CD could pay more while locking up the deposit.

EverBank Performance Savings at a glance
Performance Savings is a variable-rate savings account. The following figures come from EverBank’s rate page and summary of terms, checked October 9, 2026, unless noted otherwise.
| Feature | What is stated | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Advertised APY | 4.20% on all balances | A competitive yield today, not a promise that the rate will remain the same. |
| Rate scope | Displayed APY is for new accounts only and may not apply to existing accounts | Ask which rate your account will receive and monitor it after opening. |
| Rate type | Variable | EverBank can change the interest rate and APY. |
| Minimum opening deposit | $0 | You can open without transferring money immediately. |
| Monthly account fee | $0 | No maintenance charge is listed for keeping the account open. |
| Minimum balance for the advertised yield | EverBank lists 4.20% on all balances | No qualifying balance tier is stated on the dated rate page. |
| ATM card | None, according to Bankrate’s review | Plan to move money to another account before you need physical cash. |
| Mobile check deposit | Available, according to Bankrate’s review | You can add checks through the mobile app rather than an ATM. |
| Assisted outgoing ACH/EFT | $0 | The terms list no fee for this assisted transfer service. |
A $0 opening requirement does not mean every action is free. The terms list a $25 stop-payment fee per item and paid expedited bill-pay options. Read the fee schedule for the transaction you intend to use.

How the 4.20% APY should be interpreted
The most important qualification is attached to the number itself: 4.20% APY is the rate EverBank displayed for new accounts on October 9, 2026. It is not a guaranteed rate for the life of the account, and it may not be the rate credited to an existing customer. Because the account is variable-rate, the APY can rise or fall after you open it.
That distinction matters when you compare EverBank with another savings account. A headline rate can be useful for deciding where to apply, but your longer-term return depends on the rate actually assigned to your account and how often the bank changes it. Save a copy of the rate disclosure shown when you apply, then check statements or the account dashboard periodically.
APY also assumes the account’s stated compounding and a full year under the applicable rate. Your realized earnings will differ if the rate changes, you withdraw money, or you keep the balance for only part of the year. Do not use 4.20% as a permanent forecast for an emergency fund or savings goal.
Costs, thresholds and transaction fees
No opening deposit or monthly maintenance fee
The summary of terms lists a $0 minimum opening deposit and a $0 monthly account fee. You can therefore open the account before moving funds, and there is no listed maintenance charge simply for leaving it open. Bankrate likewise lists a $0 opening minimum, a $0 minimum balance to avoid fees and a $0 monthly fee.
Fees that still require attention
Several routine items are listed at $0: no nonsufficient-funds fee, no returned deposited-item fee, no account-closing fee, $0 mobile check deposit and $0 for an assisted outgoing ACH/EFT transaction. Those entries do not make every service free. The same terms list a $25 stop-payment fee per item, and expedited bill-pay choices can cost extra.

Before scheduling a payment, identify whether it is a standard electronic transfer, an assisted transaction, a stop payment or an expedited bill-pay request. The pricing can differ by service even when the account has no monthly fee.
Access: the no-ATM-card limitation
Performance Savings does not come with an ATM card, a drawback specifically identified in Bankrate’s review. You can still use savings for bills and goals, but you should expect to move funds to an account with debit or ATM access before taking out cash.

The account can fit an emergency fund, tax reserve or sinking fund when withdrawals usually go to a linked checking account. An ACH transfer may be all you need if you can wait for the transfer process and do not routinely pay merchants from savings.
When the lack of a card is a problem
If you need cash at an ATM, a debit purchase option or a card for travel, Performance Savings alone will not provide that access. Keep a separate transaction account with the access tools you need and treat Performance Savings as the higher-yield storage account.
Checks and mobile deposits
Bankrate describes mobile deposit availability, so you can add eligible checks through the app. The supplied account terms do not establish a check-writing feature or a specific funds-availability timetable. Confirm those details in the current account agreement if you expect to deposit large checks or write checks from savings.

How to decide and open the account
- Check the live rate and its scope. Confirm the APY shown on the application date, note that it is variable, and look for the new-account-only disclosure. Do not rely on an old screenshot or a rate quoted elsewhere.
- Confirm the access arrangement. Because there is no ATM card, decide which checking account will receive transfers when you need to spend or withdraw cash.
- Review the fee schedule for your planned actions. Verify that the transfer type you intend to use is covered by the $0 assisted ACH/EFT listing. Check the cost of stop payments and any expedited bill-pay request before submitting it.
- Apply with the required identity information. Use the application’s current instructions and verify that the ownership and beneficiary structure match your needs. Keep the disclosures supplied at account opening.
- Fund the account. The minimum opening deposit is $0, so you may open first and transfer later. If you use an external bank, confirm the linked-account verification steps and the expected arrival time for each transfer.
- Set up mobile deposit only when needed. Follow the app’s endorsement and image requirements for checks. Retain the check until the deposit is accepted and any applicable hold has ended.
- Monitor the APY. Compare the rate shown for your existing account with the public rate page. If the rates differ, ask EverBank why and decide whether moving funds is worthwhile after considering transfer timing and any applicable rules.
Who is most likely to benefit
- Savers starting with little or no cash: The $0 opening minimum lets you begin without waiting to reach a deposit threshold.
- People who want a separate savings bucket: No monthly fee makes it practical to keep a dedicated emergency, tax or annual-expense reserve.
- Electronic-transfer users: The account is more convenient when money normally moves between linked accounts rather than through cash withdrawals.
- Savers willing to monitor rates: The APY is variable and the public figure is identified as applying to new accounts, so active checking is part of getting value from the account.
It is less suitable as your only bank account if you need ATM access, debit purchases or immediate physical cash. It may also be a poor fit if you want a rate that is fixed for a defined term; a CD addresses that requirement differently.
Performance Savings versus EverBank CDs
EverBank’s same dated rate page lists Performance CDs at 4.35% APY for a 24-month term and 4.10% APY for a 13-month term that renews into a 12-month CD. The fee schedule lists a $1,000 minimum deposit to open a standard EverBank CD.
| Feature | Performance Savings | 24-month Performance CD | 13-month Performance CD |
|---|---|---|---|
| Published APY on October 9, 2026 | 4.20% | 4.35% | 4.10% |
| Rate structure | Variable; may change | Term product; confirm the rate-lock and renewal disclosure | Term product; renews into a 12-month CD according to the rate page |
| Opening minimum | $0 | Standard CD minimum listed as $1,000 | Standard CD minimum listed as $1,000 |
| Access | Withdraw or transfer subject to account procedures | Funds are committed for the term | Funds are committed for the term |
| Early withdrawal | No CD early-withdrawal rule | Early-withdrawal rules and penalties apply according to the CD disclosure | Early-withdrawal rules and penalties apply according to the CD disclosure |
The 24-month CD’s 4.35% APY is only 0.15 percentage point above the dated savings APY, while the 13-month CD is 0.10 point below it. That small difference may not compensate for giving up access to the money. A CD can make sense when you can leave at least $1,000 untouched for the full term and value a defined maturity date. Keep near-term expenses and emergency cash in a liquid account instead.
Before opening a CD, read the maturity, automatic-renewal and early-withdrawal sections. The 13-month product’s stated renewal into a 12-month CD means the post-maturity terms may differ from the initial term and rate. Put the maturity date on your calendar so you can decide whether to renew or move the money.
Performance Savings versus Performance Checking
EverBank lists Performance Checking at 0.25% APY across balance tiers on the same October 9, 2026 rate page. Checking may provide the transaction access that savings lacks, but its listed yield is much lower.
Rank #4
| Use case | Performance Savings | Performance Checking |
|---|---|---|
| Primary purpose | Higher-yield cash storage | Daily spending and account access |
| Published APY | 4.20% for new accounts, as displayed October 9, 2026 | 0.25% across balance tiers, as displayed October 9, 2026 |
| ATM/debit access | No ATM card identified in Bankrate’s review | Confirm the current checking access package |
| Best arrangement | Hold reserves and transfer out when spending is required | Receive transfers and use for transactions |
One practical setup is to keep routine spending money in checking and move surplus reserves to Performance Savings. That arrangement separates access from yield, but it adds a transfer step and requires you to watch both accounts.
Liquidity, transfer timing and cash planning
“Liquid” does not necessarily mean “instant cash.” Performance Savings may let you request an electronic transfer, but the time to receive funds can depend on the sending and receiving institutions, weekends, holidays, verification and any applicable hold. The supplied terms do not state a universal transfer-time promise.
Keep enough money in your transaction account for rent, payroll gaps, deductibles and other expenses that cannot wait for a transfer. For a genuine emergency, a separate accessible balance can be more useful than maximizing every fraction of APY.
If you close the account, the terms list no account-closing fee. Even so, move recurring deposits and payments first, wait for pending items to settle and download statements before closure.

Deposit insurance and account ownership
Insurance coverage depends on the bank’s current disclosures, the ownership category and the applicable legal limits. Review EverBank’s latest deposit-insurance language and account agreement before depositing a large balance; do not assume that a rate page alone establishes coverage or that separate accounts automatically receive separate limits.
Best Value
Ownership choices can also affect how a balance is treated for insurance purposes. If you are using a trust, joint ownership or business entity, ask EverBank which documentation and category apply to that account.
Common pitfalls and how to avoid them
Assuming the public APY applies forever
Save the date and the disclosure showing the rate you received. Recheck the account’s actual APY because EverBank identifies the public figure as for new accounts and says existing customers may receive something different.
Putting all cash in a cardless account
Keep a separate account with ATM or debit access if you might need cash outside transfer hours. Test the transfer path with a small amount before relying on it for a deadline.
Confusing no monthly fee with no service fees
Review the transaction-specific schedule. A $25 stop-payment fee and paid expedited bill-pay options can matter more than the absence of a maintenance charge if you use those services.
Choosing a CD for money you may need
Compare the incremental APY with the cost of reduced access and any early-withdrawal penalty. Use a CD only for funds that can remain committed through maturity.
Ignoring renewal instructions
For the 13-month CD, EverBank states that it renews into a 12-month CD. Check the maturity notice and renewal rate before the deadline rather than letting an unwanted renewal happen automatically.
A practical decision checklist
- Is the APY you see dated October 9, 2026, or has it changed?
- Does the disclosure say the displayed rate is for new accounts only?
- Can you manage without an ATM card?
- How much money must remain immediately accessible?
- Will you use mobile check deposit, standard ACH, assisted ACH/EFT, stop payments or expedited bill pay?
- Have you priced those specific services rather than relying on the $0 monthly-fee headline?
- Would a $1,000-minimum CD fit money you can leave untouched, and have you read its early-withdrawal and renewal rules?
- Have you reviewed current deposit-insurance disclosures for your ownership type?
Verdict
EverBank Performance Savings is worth considering for savers who prioritize a competitive posted yield, no opening deposit and no monthly fee, and who are comfortable moving money electronically. The account’s main trade-offs are material: the 4.20% APY is variable, explicitly shown for new accounts and dated October 9, 2026, while existing customers may receive a different rate; there is no ATM card; and some optional services carry fees.
