The fall came as governments discussed releasing emergency stocks, which could ease expectations of tight fuel supply. Was Europe releasing 50 million barrels of diesel?
Not as a confirmed final allocation. Before the G7 leaders’ meeting, EU governments discussed a French proposal for European countries to release 50 million barrels of diesel, alongside a separate proposed 50-million-barrel crude release by IEA members. What the IEA and European Commission said
The IEA said its executive director attended the October 2 G7 leaders’ meeting and that leaders asked the agency to take forward work on the options discussed. It also reported that around 325 million barrels of the 400 million barrels pledged in an earlier collective action had been released. What the announcement does—and does not—tell drivers
A futures price reflects market expectations; it is not a guaranteed near-term change in retail prices. The G7 plan may address supply concerns, but the reports do not establish the final diesel allocation, country-by-country contributions, or the quantity physically delivered after the announcement.
