Verdict: The Euromatic PAC35KW is a cooling-only portable air conditioner rated at 3.5 kW for rooms of approximately 18–23 m². Its manual documents a 1,300 W input, R290 refrigerant, four operating modes, a 24-hour timer, remote control and a supplied window kit. It can make sense for a correctly sized room when a permanent split system is impractical, but buying one now requires care: CHOICE marks the model discontinued, its public page does not reveal independent test scores, and the $499 figure shown there should not be treated as a current street price.
This review separates the manufacturer’s specifications from the limited public independent evidence, explains the installation that portable units need, and gives a checklist for judging any remaining stock or used example.

What the Euromatic PAC35KW is
The PAC35KW is an Australian-market portable air conditioner that cools only; it is not a reverse-cycle heater. The model name corresponds to a 3.5 kW cooling capacity. A flexible exhaust duct carries hot air out through a window kit, so the appliance is intended for rooms where a hose can reach a suitable opening. It is a single portable cabinet rather than an outdoor-unit split system, which makes it easier to deploy but means the exhaust arrangement is part of the cooling system, not an optional extra.

What is the cooling power of the Euromatic PAC35KW?
The instruction manual lists a 3.5 kW cooling capacity. That is the model’s rated capacity, not a guarantee that every room will reach a particular temperature. Solar gain, insulation, ceiling height, open doors, outdoor temperature and the quality of the window seal all affect the result. The manual’s own sizing statement is the useful boundary for planning: “This portable air conditioner is designed for rooms of approximately 18–23 m² size.” That is a manufacturer statement, quoted from the Euromatic PAC35KW instruction manual, rather than an independent room-cooling test.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What room size is suitable for the Euromatic PAC35KW?
Use the PAC35KW for roughly 18–23 m² when the room has ordinary residential heat load. Measure the floor area rather than guessing from the room’s name: length multiplied by width gives the starting point. A top-floor, west-facing or poorly insulated room may need more capacity than the nominal area suggests, while a shaded, well-insulated room may be easier to cool. If your space is materially larger than 23 m² or opens into several other rooms, expect longer runtimes and less even cooling; the specification does not establish that the unit can replace a larger system in those conditions.
Verified specifications at a glance
The figures below come from the PAC35KW manual unless another source is identified. They describe the product, not independent laboratory performance.
| Specification | Euromatic PAC35KW figure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Product type | Cooling-only portable air conditioner | No heating mode is listed. |
| Cooling capacity | 3.5 kW | Rated cooling output. |
| Recommended room area | Approximately 18–23 m² | Manufacturer’s sizing guidance, not an independent test result. |
| Rated supply | 220–240 V, 50 Hz | Matches Australian mains specifications; use a suitable outlet. |
| Rated current | 6.0 A | Listed electrical rating. |
| Rated input power | 1,300 W | At the rated condition, the appliance is specified at about 1.3 kW input; real cycling and conditions vary. |
| Refrigerant | R290, 0.2 kg | R290 is flammable; handling and repairs require the precautions in the manual. |
| Airflow | 400 m³/h | Published airflow figure; it does not by itself predict room temperature. |
| Rated EER | 2.6 | Efficiency ratio stated by the manufacturer; do not equate it with an independently verified seasonal score. |
| Approximate dimensions | 440 (W) × 710 (H) × 335 (D) mm | Allow room for the hose, window adaptor and access around the cabinet. |
| Approximate weight | 29 kg | Portable between locations, but heavy enough that stairs and thresholds need planning. |
| Sound pressure | 54 dB(A) LPA | Sound pressure is a listener-position measurement under a stated test setup. |
| Sound power | 65 dB(A) LWA | Sound power is an output characteristic of the appliance; it is not interchangeable with LPA. |
| Timer | Up to 24 hours | Use the controls or remote to schedule operation as described in the manual. |
The manual and the public product information use slightly different dimension presentations. CHOICE lists claimed dimensions of 70 × 43 × 34 cm, while the manual gives 44 × 71 × 33.5 cm when its millimetre figures are converted and kept in width–height–depth order. Treat both as approximate cabinet dimensions and check the actual unit and hose route before buying.

Operating modes
The manual describes four modes:
- Cooling: the normal mode when the exhaust duct is connected and warm air is being expelled outside.
- Fan: air circulation without the cooling function; useful when you want airflow but not refrigeration.
- Dry/dehumidifying: a moisture-removal mode. Follow the manual’s drainage instructions, because dehumidification can produce collected water.
- Auto: automatic operation using the appliance’s control logic rather than a fixed mode selected by the user.
A 24-hour timer and remote control are listed. Exact button sequences, temperature-setting limits and indicator meanings are model-specific, so use the diagrams and control descriptions in the manual rather than assuming another portable air conditioner’s remote layout will match.
What the package is documented to include
The manual identifies the exhaust duct and its window adaptors, a remote control and a baffle plate among the supplied accessories. CHOICE also lists a supplied window kit and remote. Those parts matter: cooling with the hose and window sealing arranged as intended is different from running the cabinet with hot exhaust discharged into the room. If you are considering used stock, confirm that every adaptor, the baffle, remote and duct are physically present before agreeing on a price.

Installation: the practical sequence
Portable cooling performance depends heavily on installation. The following sequence follows the manual’s stated requirements without substituting improvised refrigerant or electrical work.
- Inspect and position the cabinet. Unpack the unit and accessories, check for transport damage and choose a location where the exhaust can reach a window. Keep the machine upright for at least two hours before installation, as the manual instructs.
- Read the window-kit diagrams. The kit is designed for most standard horizontal and vertical windows. “Most” does not mean every frame, sliding arrangement or security screen will fit without adjustment; compare your opening with the adaptor shapes before drilling, cutting or permanently modifying anything.
- Assemble the duct and adaptors. Join the exhaust duct to the cabinet connector and the appropriate window adaptor. Fit the baffle plate and the remaining kit pieces as shown in the manual. Keep the route as short and straight as the installation allows, because a poorly routed hose can restrict exhaust flow.
- Seal the opening. Install the window components so outside air is not freely entering around the hose. The kit is intended to close the opening around the duct, but an unusual window may need a carefully made adjustment that remains secure and removable.
- Connect power safely. Use the rated 220–240 V, 50 Hz supply and an appropriate wall outlet. Do not open the cabinet or attempt electrical modifications; the manual says the appliance has no user-serviceable parts.
- Select a mode. For cooling, choose Cooling and set the desired controls on the cabinet or remote. Fan mode can circulate air without cooling; Dry and Auto have their own behavior described in the manual.
- Set the timer if required. The timer can be set for up to 24 hours. Confirm whether you are programming a delayed start or stop using the model’s own display and remote instructions.
- Handle water and shutdown as specified. If Dry mode or the operating conditions produce condensate, use the manual’s drain procedure. For storage or a long period without use, clean, drain and protect the unit exactly as the manual directs rather than improvising a service routine.
Do not promise a universal fit for every window. A kit that works on a typical horizontal or vertical opening may require a different seal or a non-destructive adjustment on casement, awning, security or unusually wide windows.
What independent evidence is actually available?
CHOICE listing and its limits
The public CHOICE Euromatic PAC35KW page identifies the model as a cooling-only, 3.5 kW portable air conditioner using R290, weighing 29 kg and supplied with a remote and window kit. It shows a $499 price and labels the product a “Discontinued model.” That price is a figure displayed by CHOICE, not evidence of a current new-product price, and the discontinued label means availability must be checked seller by seller.
CHOICE’s accessible page does not expose the Expert Rating, cooling score, energy-efficiency score, noise test result, running-cost figure, warranty details, pros or cons. Those sections are member-only in the public excerpt. It would therefore be inaccurate to assign the PAC35KW a CHOICE score or to claim that CHOICE testing found a particular strength or weakness.
Manufacturer specifications versus a test
The capacity, airflow, EER, sound figures and room range in the manual are specifications and claims made under the manufacturer’s stated conditions. They are useful for comparing the model on paper, but they do not answer questions such as how quickly a particular room cools, how loud it seems beside a bed, or how often the compressor cycles in a heatwave. The distinction is especially important for sound: 54 dB(A) LPA and 65 dB(A) LWA use different measurement concepts and should not be compared with an unspecified phone-app reading or another product’s differently measured number.

Energy use and the reported running-cost estimate
The manual lists a 1,300 W rated input and a rated EER of 2.6. Those are the product’s declared electrical and efficiency specifications. Appliance Ratings provides a separate, model-specific estimate based on Australian Government GEMS registration data: 1,092 kWh per year in the mixed climate zone and an estimated $349 per year running cost. The page identifies Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth as examples of that mixed zone.

Appliance Ratings published the dataset on 19 September 2026 and said it was last checked on 20 September 2026; the dollar amount is a derived estimate that depends on its assumptions and the electricity tariff used. Your result changes with thermostat settings, outdoor heat, insulation, operating hours, compressor cycling and local electricity prices. Use the estimate as a comparison reference, not as a promise of what the meter will record.
The same Appliance Ratings listing reports registration AAC6744 and a reported registration expiry of 26 May 2027, attributing those details to Australian Government GEMS registration data. Registration status and expiry are time-sensitive; verify them if compliance or a current listing matters to your purchase.
Noise, portability and room planning
At approximately 29 kg, the PAC35KW is movable, but “portable” does not mean effortless to carry. Plan the route over door thresholds and stairs, and remember that the hose and window kit must move with the cabinet when you change rooms. The 440 × 710 × 335 mm manual dimensions describe the cabinet only; the installed hose needs additional clearance and can prevent the unit sitting flush against furniture or a wall.
The manual’s 54 dB(A) sound-pressure and 65 dB(A) sound-power figures give two useful reference points, but neither predicts the exact sound at your pillow or desk. Window reflections, hard floors, hose vibration and compressor cycling alter perceived noise. When comparing another model, check whether its published figure is LPA or LWA and whether the test distance and operating mode are stated. A lower-looking number measured by a different method is not automatically quieter.

R290 safety and maintenance boundaries
R290 is a flammable refrigerant, and the manual warns that the appliance contains flammable refrigerant. Keep ignition sources away from the unit and follow the ventilation, placement and warning information supplied with it. Do not puncture the refrigerant circuit, modify the hose connection or attempt to recover, recharge or repair refrigerant yourself.
The manual says the appliance has no user-serviceable parts and that repairs should be performed by an electrical specialist. That instruction rules out opening the cabinet to diagnose a leak, bypassing a safety component or fitting an unverified part. For cleaning, condensate drainage, filter care, storage and service intervals, use the full manual’s procedures. If the unit is damaged, smells of refrigerant, behaves abnormally or trips protection repeatedly, switch it off, ventilate as appropriate and obtain qualified service rather than continuing to operate it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Buying a discontinued PAC35KW today
A discontinued label changes the buying decision. You may find old retail stock, a marketplace listing or a used machine, but the existence of a listing does not establish that it is new, complete, supported or covered by a meaningful warranty.
Checks before paying
- Confirm the exact model marking is PAC35KW, not a visually similar portable air conditioner.
- Ask whether the unit is new, open-box, used or refurbished, and request photographs of the rating label and accessories.
- Verify that the exhaust duct, both window adaptors, baffle plate and remote control are included. Replacing a missing item may be difficult, and third-party compatibility has not been established here.
- Get the seller’s current price, return terms and warranty in writing. Do not use CHOICE’s displayed $499 as a current market benchmark.
- Check for refrigerant-system damage, cracked plastic, a missing drain plug or a fan that does not run through every mode.
- Confirm that the seller can demonstrate cooling operation with the hose correctly connected, while avoiding any unsafe test that vents hot air into a confined space.
- Consider whether professional service or transport would cost more than a currently supported unit with similar capacity.
If no exact-model stock can be verified, treat the PAC35KW as a specification reference rather than assuming a newer product is its official successor. No successor relationship is established by the public information cited here.

How to compare a current alternative
When replacing a discontinued portable unit, compare like with like instead of choosing on kilowatts alone. The PAC35KW’s documented values provide a baseline, while each current model needs its own current price, warranty and availability check.

| Cooling capacity | 3.5 kW | Capacity under the same rating convention; avoid mixing incompatible regional standards. |
| Room guidance | Approximately 18–23 m², manufacturer stated | Manufacturer’s area range and the conditions behind it. |
| Energy | 1,300 W rated input; EER 2.6; Appliance Ratings estimate 1,092 kWh/year mixed zone | Annual energy or efficiency on the same measurement basis, not just a marketing label. |
| Noise | 54 dB(A) LPA; 65 dB(A) LWA | Whether the number is sound pressure or sound power, plus test distance and mode. |
| Physical handling | Approximately 440 × 710 × 335 mm; 29 kg | Cabinet size, total weight, caster design and hose clearance. |

| Price and support | CHOICE shows $499 but marks the model discontinued | Current seller price, stock condition, return policy, warranty and spare-parts support. |
Independent testing would be valuable for cooling speed, noise and efficiency, but the public CHOICE excerpt available for this model does not provide those scores. Do not fill that gap by treating the manual’s claims as test results or by borrowing scores from a different model.
Who should consider it?
The PAC35KW is most defensible when you have a room within the stated area range, a window that can accept the supplied kit, and a verified unit at a price that reflects its discontinued status. Its cooling-only design suits someone who needs summer cooling and already has another solution for winter. The remote, timer and multiple modes add convenience, while the 29 kg cabinet and exhaust setup mean it is not a permanently invisible appliance.
Choose a currently supported alternative instead when you need a dependable warranty, readily available replacement parts, heating as well as cooling, a guaranteed fit for an unusual window or independently published test results. Those needs are purchasing requirements, not faults that can be inferred from the PAC35KW’s missing public CHOICE scores.

The Euromatic PAC35KW is a clearly specified 3.5 kW portable cooler for approximately 18–23 m², with a documented 1,300 W input, R290 refrigerant, four modes, timer and window kit. The manual provides enough information to plan installation and electrical use, while Appliance Ratings adds a mixed-zone energy estimate. The unresolved part is not the basic specification; it is today’s ownership proposition. CHOICE marks the model discontinued and does not publicly reveal its expert test results, so any purchase should depend on verified stock, complete accessories, condition, warranty and a price justified by those limitations.
