The manual’s numbers are manufacturer-published ratings. They do not establish how quickly a particular room will cool, how evenly it will cool, or how much electricity it will use in your weather and building. The 53 dB(A) figure is likewise a published sound level rather than an independent measurement made in a standardized room.

What the PAC26KW is—and is not
This is a single-hose portable air conditioner with a dehumidifier function. It is designed to remove heat from indoor air and send the warm exhaust outside through a duct. It is not a split system, and the documented operating modes do not include heating.
Three operating modes
- Cool: The compressor removes heat while the exhaust hose sends warm air outdoors. This is the mode for lowering room temperature.
- Dehumidify or dry: The unit removes moisture from the air. The manual gives a dehumidifying capacity of 1.0 L/h; the actual amount depends on temperature and humidity.
- Fan: The unit circulates air without providing the same cooling action as compressor operation.
You can select two fan speeds, set a target temperature from 16°C to 31°C in 1°C increments, use a timer and operate the unit with its remote control. A water-full indicator warns when collected condensation has filled the internal drip tray.
Is the PAC26KW suitable for your room?
The manual says the appliance is designed for rooms up to 18 m². Its troubleshooting section narrows the practical reference to a 10–18 m² area. Treat that as a sizing guide, not a promise that every 18 m² room will reach the selected temperature.
Room conditions that can overwhelm a portable unit
Large windows, direct sun, poor insulation, high ceilings, cooking appliances and several people in the room all add heat. An open-plan area can effectively be much larger than its floor-area measurement. If your room is smaller but receives intense afternoon sun, performance can still be less satisfactory than the nominal size suggests.
For the best chance of reaching the set temperature, close doors and windows that connect to warmer spaces, block direct sun where practical and turn off nearby heat-producing appliances. Keep the cooled area separated from hallways and adjoining rooms rather than expecting the PAC26KW to cool an entire dwelling.
Why the exhaust hose is essential
Portable air conditioners remove heat indoors and then discharge that heat through the exhaust duct. Running cooling mode without routing the hose outside returns the heat to the room and defeats the purpose of the appliance. Place the PAC26KW beside a suitable window or opening before starting cooling.

Installation: a safe, practical sequence
- Choose a location. Use a flat, stable surface close enough to a window or opening for the exhaust duct. Leave at least 60 cm of clearance around the appliance so its air inlets and outlet are not obstructed.
- Keep it upright before setup. The manual’s instruction is: “Keep the unit upright for at least two hours before installation.” Do not start installation immediately after the appliance has been transported on its side.
- Check the window arrangement. The supplied slider kit is intended for most standard horizontal and vertical windows. Unusual frames may need a careful adaptation; do not create a loose installation that allows hot air or rain to enter.
- Fit the window slider and exhaust duct. Assemble the supplied parts according to the manual and seal the remaining window gap as far as the kit allows. The duct should lead outdoors without sharp kinks or crushing.
- Confirm airflow clearance. Keep furniture, curtains and other objects away from the intake and discharge openings. A blocked inlet or outlet reduces cooling and can trigger the troubleshooting conditions listed in the manual.
- Connect power and select a mode. Use the rated 220–240 V~, 50 Hz supply specified for the appliance. Select Cool, choose a temperature and fan speed, and check that warm air is leaving through the window duct.
The manual describes installation requirements but does not establish that every window type will fit without modification. Measure your window before buying or collecting a used unit, and inspect that the slider, duct and seals are actually present.

Using the controls day to day
Cooling mode
Set a realistic target rather than the lowest possible number. The available range is 16°C to 31°C in 1°C steps, but a lower setting does not make the unit’s rated capacity larger. If cooling seems weak, use the manual’s checks: close doors and windows, remove nearby heat sources, clean the filter, clear blocked openings and confirm that the room is within the intended size.
Dehumidify mode
Dry mode is useful when the room feels clammy but does not need aggressive temperature reduction. Moisture removed from the air collects in the internal tray. In humid conditions the tray can fill sooner, so monitor the water-full indicator.
Fan mode, fan speeds and timer
Fan mode circulates air and can provide a breeze without compressor cooling. Two fan speeds are documented. The timer lets you schedule operation, although the available public material does not specify the timer’s exact maximum duration or whether it supports every combination of start and stop functions; consult the control instructions supplied with your unit.
Remote control
The PAC26KW includes remote control operation. Keep the remote and its batteries dry, and use the appliance’s own controls if the remote is unavailable. The public specifications do not establish battery type or replacement interval.
Water handling when the tray is full
Condensation drains into an in-built drip tray. When that tray reaches capacity, the appliance stops and the water-full indicator comes on. This is a protection and shutdown condition, not evidence that the compressor has failed.

What to do
- Stop the appliance and disconnect power before handling water around the unit.
- Move a suitable container into position at the drain outlet identified in the PAC26KW manual. Keep the appliance level while positioning it.
- Open the drain arrangement as shown in the manual and allow the tray to empty completely. Do not force a cap, hose or fitting.
- Close the outlet securely, wipe up any spill and reconnect power only after the area is dry.
- Restart the required mode and confirm that the water-full indicator has cleared.
The documented material confirms manual tray draining, but it does not establish that a continuous-drain hose or an extra drain accessory is included. Do not assume one is supplied; check the physical kit and the manual for your particular unit.
Power use, airflow and noise
The manual lists 950 W cooling input power and 4.3 A cooling input current at a rated supply of 220–240 V~, 50 Hz. Those figures describe the appliance’s published cooling specifications, not a guaranteed constant draw during every minute of operation. A compressor cycles, and electricity use changes with room temperature, insulation, thermostat setting and run time.
You can estimate running cost only by combining actual operating hours with your electricity tariff. The available product information does not supply a tariff, duty-cycle measurement or independently measured energy consumption, so a precise daily or seasonal cost would be invented.

The manual lists airflow of 270 m³/h and a sound level of 53 dB(A). Portable units place the fan and compressor in the room, so the published sound level matters when the appliance will run near a bed or desk. Because no independent acoustic test is available here, treat 53 dB(A) as a manufacturer figure for comparison rather than a promise of the sound you will hear in your room.
Cleaning and routine maintenance
Clean the side air filter every two weeks
- Switch the PAC26KW off and unplug it before cleaning or servicing.
- Remove the side air filter as shown in the manual.
- Wash the filter in mild detergent and lukewarm water.
- Dry it fully in the shade before reinstalling. Do not put a wet filter back into the appliance.
- Reinstall the dry filter securely before operating the unit.
A dirty filter restricts airflow and is one of the manual’s listed explanations for poor cooling. Dusty rooms, pets and renovation work may require more frequent inspection than the two-week recommendation.
Clean the housing without damaging it
Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not wash the appliance directly, immerse it or spray liquid into openings. Do not use solvent- or alcohol-based cleaners, which can damage surfaces and create an additional safety risk.

Troubleshooting poor cooling or shutdowns
The manual’s troubleshooting chart gives several possible causes. Work through them in order before assuming the compressor or refrigerant system needs service.

These are the manufacturer’s suggested checks, not measured failure rates. If the unit still behaves abnormally after the basic checks, stop using it and arrange assessment by an appropriately qualified electrical specialist rather than opening the cabinet.
R290 refrigerant and safety obligations
CHOICE identifies R290 as the refrigerant. R290 is propane refrigerant, and the Euromatic manual warns that it is flammable. The manual says not to disassemble, modify or attempt repairs yourself and directs repairs to an electrical specialist.
- Do not remove panels or puncture the refrigerant circuit.
- Do not improvise a repair after a suspected refrigerant leak.
- Keep ignition sources away from a damaged appliance and follow qualified-service advice.
- For disposal, follow local requirements; the manual says refrigerant must be removed before disposal.
The manual states that the appliance has been fully tested and meets AS/NZS 60335.1 and AS/NZS 60335.2.40. That is the manufacturer’s compliance statement; the publicly available material does not independently verify certification records.

CHOICE’s public listing labels the PAC26KW a “Discontinued model” and shows an original price of AUD $349. That figure is the listing’s historical price, not a current quote. Current new or used stock, replacement stock, warranty terms and spare-parts availability are not established.
If you find a second-hand PAC26KW, verify the model number on the rating label and inspect the window slider, exhaust duct, remote control, filters, drain fittings and power cord. Ask whether the appliance was stored upright and whether it shuts down with a full-tray warning. A low purchase price is not useful if the window kit is missing or the unit cannot be safely serviced.

How to judge the PAC26KW against another portable unit
